I love this man!! I truly appreciate that he embraces the diversity of textures in the natural hair community. He gives information based off of what the hair is in its natural state. Alot of KZbinrs give Type 3 advice for Type 4 hair and leaving us wondering why the shit aint working! (Sorry for the sailor's mouth). Mr Dickey truly has been a Godsend for me because I refer to his videos like the Dead Sea Scrolls when I have a question about my thick, sometimes unruly, stubborn, full, dense crown of Type 4abc hair

To the person who posed the question I deep condition weekly in addition to washing or cowashing my hair every 2 days & I do wng styling. I use conditioner, conditioner, conditioner on my kinky hair. Did I say conditioner? My hair loves conditioner!

The explanation he gave to this question was in line with his philosophy of following "gimmicks" that he talks about in a previous video. Basically, he's telling us that if our hair is dry, brittle, or breaking off, with the conditioning regime we are currently using, then maybe a deep conditioning system should be added to ones regime. That was my takeaway...
@nekiawade67026 жыл бұрын
I became a lazy natural about 8 months in and stopped deep conditioning. Well, my hair was ok...it grew, looked moisturized, etc. However, when I decided to include it back in my wash day when the weather got colder I noticed an immediate improvement (especially when I used it with heat). So I think some textures can be ok and not "tore up" lol but dc still has great benefits.

Lmao! I'll pose the question a different way because I think I interpreted the question a little differently before I heard your response. What I got from that question is this: if we are doing the right things (like cowashing/wash and go styling daily as you recommend), thereby keeping hair moisturized and strengthened, trimming on schedule etc, is deep conditioning (perhaps weekly) still necessary? Could it be that the people who say deep conditioning is necessary for hair growth just think that because that's what's been repeated all the time. Whereas, hair growth and health is really from consistent proper hair care practices in general (such as daily wash and go styling)? I hope that made some kind of sense lol (if this was your question and this is what you were trying to say, let me know! 😂)
@MrAnitaw146 жыл бұрын
Amy lozy. That was the question I was actually to say. Is deep conditioning necessary even when you're doing the right things. We tend to hop on the bandwagon when we see a large group of women participate which in turn drives the industry and natural hair community. I was trying to understand it from more of a scientific aspect.
@TheResetWithEmi6 жыл бұрын
@@MrAnitaw14 that's what I figured 😊. And I think I recall him saying in an older video that deep conditioning becomes obsolete when you are doing daily wash and go styling. Because the daily moisture is maintaining your hair as opposed to waiting once a week to wet the hair (which I guess is why people reach for the deep conditioner weekly to make up for the whole week of dry hair). It's a great question actually
@MrAnitaw146 жыл бұрын
@@TheResetWithEmi That does make a lot of sense. Thanks for answering my question 😁
@TheResetWithEmi6 жыл бұрын
@@MrAnitaw14 I was actually thinking out loud/further drilling down into the question you asked lol. But I think that there is still a place for deep conditioning even with the daily wash and go styling and it all depends on a lot of things. Perhaps you can deep condition less often because of the daily wash and go? Perhaps you don't have to leave the deep conditioner in as long? Perhaps you don't need to use moisture only based deep conditioners when you do deep condition. Perhaps you can skip the steamer? Or perhaps not. I think it will come down to what a particular head of hair needs. I do the daily cowash but I use a conditioner with proteins. However, I still deep condition every weekend or every other weekend with a mask that has proteins as well. Sometimes I'll use my steamer with it. I think it all just comes down to paying attention to the hair to see what it needs

I love it that we are discussing this question with so much thought & concern. Btw I do deep condition my natural hair, did the same when my hair was permed. My hair has thinned over the yrs (I think from perm chemicals) and possibly genetics. But since going natural over 7 yrs it appears thicker! Thanks for the education everyone💕

My understanding of the question is.... If you are conditioning regularly, is deep conditioning necessary?
@kreyol5394 жыл бұрын
Yes! Deep conditioner penetrates the strands of your hair deeper than a regular conditioner. For optimal strength and moisture balance, this step can not be avoided (once per week, every time I wash). You’d be better off eliminating the rinse out - I find that to be an unnecessary step if you have a good deep conditioner. I have type 4a, dense, full shoulder length hair and I only do wash and gos (big chopped just shy of two years - cut it 4x since, so its grown fast)! My steps are as follows: shampoo, deep conditioner (camille rose - algae renew, which detangles fabulously) leave a little in as a leave in, yes all in one (but you need a potent product for that to work, note that the directions dont say to do that, it just works well for me), then pop on uncle funky’s daughter gel, and I’m set for the week. This is coming from someone who used to do 3 styling products every wash day!

I deep condition weekly and my hair love it. Although I have been without a relaxer for about 5 years I would never just rock my natural coils...I also wore wigs or some other protective style because I didnt like my texture. I just didnt know what to do with it. I found Dickey youtube Page at the beginning of Dec 2018 and I promise it has changed my whole thoughts on my natural hair and how I take care of it. I love it now! I love doing wash and goes daily! My hair looks so pretty and healthy too. I also so feel better about myself as well because my natural hair is prettier than my weaves and wigs. So when Dickey say deep condition on a regular then its getting deep conditioned. I didn't have a clue before December. When you know better, you do better.

I didn't really understand the question, but I think that folks think they can do anything to their hair and then do a deep conditioning treatment to fix the neglect and damage. A healthy hair regimen works best.

Before I started seeing the natural hair movement in forums and then on YT I always deep conditioned my natural hair weekly because that's what my mom and grandma taught me. I didn't even know that ladies with tight curly, coily, or kinky hair used rinse out conditioner unless they were relaxed. I was taught that it wasn't for natural textured hair because it was too light weight. Well of course I now know that we can use rinse out condish, but I've never stopped deep conditioning.

I don't feel like that video really answered the question. Does deep conditioning actually make difference as opposed to normal conditioner, YES or NO??
@just_antony2384 жыл бұрын
A deep conditioner becomes obsolete when you condition (regular) your hair on a daily basis. A deep conditioner is great for those who do protective styling or who hasn’t wet their hair in a while. That’s what I got from his other videos 😂
@uberhaute_naturalz843 жыл бұрын
@@just_antony238 Deep Conditioner and rinse out may have the same ingredients list however, they are not created equal. One penetrates the hair shaft(deep), the other smoothens the cuticle (rinse) which is why they both have different usage instructions. You can learn more about this from Curly Chemistry or Moknowshair Channel.
