I felt bullied every time I told someone how often I washed my hair (every 1-3 days) and so I experimented not washing my hair for weeks. I was told 4c hair doesn’t need to be washed often, just put away and moisturized. After 10 months I see what works for some doesn’t work for me and I’ve lost several inches of hair listening to other women. I kept my hair in twists for 3-4 weeks this year thinking it was a protective style and it definitely locked on me several times. After 10 months of experimenting I now have broken damaged hair and need a haircut so bad. You’re right about blowing out the hair before styling is key to protective styles. I went back to washing my hair every 2 days and what a difference it made in the softness and texture of my hair. This video hit at the right time because I was thinking the same thing earlier this week when assessing my hair.

@@naarahlloyd-nf6ps I’d say do what works for you. You know your hair better than anyone else. I have to wash off the products (leave-in conditioner, styler, edge control) for my hair to absorb water. Just spraying water and adding more product only causes build up and dry hair making it look dusty. NOT black and shiny how I like it. In the past I’ve been told “for someone with nappy hair, it shole is shiny”🙄. I was thinking yeah jerk because I put water on it. 😂

@@Cocoflower528gurrrl, I am right there with you. I also need to wash at least twice a week. I have to add that I found soap aloe growing in the garden. Nobody planted it, it's just there and multiplying like weeds. So I have started washing my hair with the gel. So washing hair very 2-3 days is no bigge for me. I lose volume and definition of I just spray and add product.

Well now I am having to cut most of my hair off now. Like you, my regime was Wash/deep condition on Sunday and Co wash with a conditioner on Wed. I too, had people telling me I was washing my hair too much cause "black people don't need to wash our hair that much" WRRROONNGG!!!!! I went from soft, growing hair to broken hair all the way up the shaft. Like Anthony just said, I now what 1x a week, use a conditioner and leave in, oil my hair with black Jamaican castor oil and plat it up WET. When I take my hair down its a tangled mess. I recently went to a stylist to flat iron my hair and give me a trip and almost fainted when I felt the texture, and saw the thinning and broken hair all the way up my shaft. I am cutting it tomorrow not low like a man but damn near and letting it grow and trim trim until all of the broken hair is gone. I am going to go back to 2xs a week wash and use the suggestions Anthony just gave and maybe by summer I can see length and healthy hair again. My hairs is 4b on top and 4c in the back, brown and dry! Today is 12/3/23 wish me blessings in my journey! It'll all be ok....

@@Sogal60 I hope this hair routine is a learning experience that future generations won’t have to endure. I’m sick right now so I wash every 3-5 days and it still works. Another thing I found out is that using coconut oil and brushing my hair with a soft boar bristle hair brush before washing detangles my hair and I have little shed hair no bigger than my thumb nail for every wash. I walk around with a big Afro for 15 minutes before showering but the hair easily detangles with my fingers or comb and shortens my washing time significantly.

I’m soooo glad that he said to use a Rinse Out Conditioner and then add the Deep Conditioner. I saw a natural hair KZbinr say that she goes directly into Deep Conditioner (no Rinse about Conditioner) she said that it’s useless and a waste of Time, Money, and Product and that the hair would get more conditioner if you skip the Rinse Out) so I tried it because it did seem logical, but my hair did NOT like it…(dry as can be), so I went back to Rinse Out Conditioner and Derp Conditioner. THANKS for posting.

The point you made about protective styles seriously resonated with me. How true it is that our hair should be better off after the protective style than before. Just hiding away damage isn't solving the problem. We need to be 'intentional' about our hair care.💆🏾♀Lastly, acknowledging that not everyone can practice wash-and-go styles and suggesting tailored regimens for different hair types was just what many of us needed to hear! Thanks again for all the valuable information you've shared! Anyone looking to start or improve their natural hair journey should definitely watch this video!! Love this channel!

I wash my daughter's hair, 9 years old, every 2 to 3 weeks, blow dry it, put her hair in plaits and beads, and moisturize it once or twice a week. Her hair is thick and long. There are some parents who ask what I do to her hair because they want to get their daughter's hair long and thick too. Guess what they do? Put their daughter's hair in braid extentions for months, and that's it.
@peacebalance80672 ай бұрын
I think braid extensions, with added hair is harsh on natural hair. It's hard and crunchy. It breaks my hair hair out. It looks BEAUTIFUL, but the fake hair is harder than my hair.

Dickey advocates for wash n' gos every day. HOWEVER, if you have 4b/4c hair. That may not be practical. So instead, you do a whole week of wash n' gos, daily, to get your hair prepped for a protective style. The day of the protective style, you wash, condition w/ a leave in and your scalp oils, then blow it out. Then you put it into your protective style. So now you can go up to 4 weeks with it, in that style, before you take it down and go back to wash n' gos for another week to recondition
