I wasn't able to watch this live, but even just tuning in after, this was so informative. Thank you so much.

It's interesting discussing ALT text for photos. On my business schedule, I always identify an hour each month to check my ALT text on my photos. This can start by identifying any new posts that I may have not gotten to add ALT text yet to just reviewing photos that have ALT text to just make sure it still sounds accurate. My full-time job incorporates accessibility tools into everything we complete so maybe this is just second nature to me.

This is awesome though!!! I wish more marketplaces would focus on accessibility to this extent!

The thing I don't like about them charging $15 for signing up a shop is that you can't experiment with techniques to rank your store higher fast, and also, for those "sketchy" stores (I don't really understand who that would be exactly), I'm pretty sure they already have a system to make that $15 back and then some if they're setting up sketchy Etsy shops, right? I think that Etsy has an overflow of sellers and it was already a lot before. I think they see a problem with this as well as an opportunity to make more money. They have not done super well after covid and maybe the owners are pushing to get more money out of their business. This is a GREAT way to kill two birds with one stone for them if you ask me.

"you can't experiment with techniques to rank your store higher fast" - Just to clarify, there is no advantage to having a new shop when it comes to Etsy's search algorithm. Etsy does not give "boosts" to new shops. They boost new listings (assigning them a neutral listing quality score) in order to observe how shoppers interact with these listings in search in order to determine where these items should rank, as well as which audience they should be shown to. So any techniques for ranking you've mentioned can still be executed within a single shop. There's absolutely no benefit to starting multiple shops to do this. As for sketchy shops, these are typically sellers who utilize VPNs to create an excess of storefronts that are filled with items that they quickly generate (some aren't even selling legitimate items) in order to saturate the marketplace. While a $15 fee may not eliminate 100% of these individuals, it will certainly halt many of them. Consider this a bit of insight from the "front lines". Scammers on Etsy are a HUGE problem right now, and Etsy likely doesn't have a solid plan for how to deal with them. In the meantime, placing preventative measures that will hopefully also support the staffing of more human customer support is the best option. These changes will have zero impact on the average seller.
