Can I ask...just what is so special about 1959 Les Pauls? Is it the woods, the pickups? was it a good year for Gibson?

i think it was the first time Gibson made burst Les Pauls then they discontinued it after a few years that's why only few guitars were made and that is why it is rare and very sought out

Please do a show/episode on step by step graduation of tone from the C.Christian Pickup = P90 = Alnico V = Humbucker =-= All on Super400CES or L5. Love to see & hear it in one episode. I honestly don't think that's ever been done on any show, episode on anything on the internet. Thanks Chris O

Possible Catalog Order? C. Hide some ugly wood grain, glued wood pieces or mfg mistakes? D. Making’ Les happy, when he came around the workshop :)? E. I say Goldtops sound like good. All gold sound even better :),… hidden clue (joke on the side)? KEEP GOIN BOYS!

Hi, Norm! How long do you recommend to change the guitar strings? (I play about 8 hours per week). And why is so difficult to keep in tune the G string of the Les Pauls? Cheers from Brazil!

i'd like to hear some advice on buying my first vintage guitar. ive been playing for almost 20 years now and i own a bunch of great guitars but none that are worth any real amount of money. lately ive been really interested in the idea of a vintage strat. im just curious about any general advice i should be aware of when shopping around for a vintage guitar.

I'm interested in knowing your opinion on the difference in quality (build, playability and sound) between a good vintage strat and a good CS strat with top notch boutique vintage pickups. Business interests aside please ;-) thanks.

ive got kinda a weird question if i were to put some old vintage PAF pickups in my gibson les paul standard would it sound like the vintage bursts of the mid to late 50s or would i just have a les paul with vintage pickups. whats your opinion on vintage pickups and electronicks are they better that there repros like a seymour duncan 59 vs. a real PAF if im gonna replace the pickups in my guitar should i just buy the real deal.

Could you please comment on the 1963 Fender Palomino & Shenandoah flat tops with the through body aluminum neck stabilizer pipe. Have you had any in store? Thanks Norm for the informative series you're undertaking. B.

P4flats interestingly, a small company called Larson Bros were doing that in the late 20's early 30's. they were the Prairie State flat tops, and they seem to be really rare.
@P4flats

Olie- the fenders that I mentioned lacked the conventional dove tailed neck heel of flat top guitars & I can't recall HOW the "pipe" supported the neck & if it was a removable neck as with the solid body fenders. It looked the same. (See EG.- R.Altman "Nashville" movie for G.O.O. stage house guitarist.)

5:55 The comment made by Norm's co-host about modern pickup makers not being allowed to use the same lead content or nickel content by the EPA sounds highly doubtful. He seems to be an experienced player but never once in all my reading, from vintage dealers to boutique pickup makers to hardcore guitar nuts in general, have I ever heard such a theory. (Edited to add: But I definitely appreciate the series).

I have enough budget to purchase some nice guitars but not enough for real vintage specimens. I"ve been looking at some of the new, higher end Gibsons and Martin's. Do you think that the quality of these new guitars is good enough to expect these instruments to become the vintage guitars of the future? Or are there too many compromises being done with the older traditional construction methods/materials?

Hey Norm: Greetings from the wilds of Canada! I'm helping a lady sell some guitars left by her husband. There is a 1969 "Pearl" Brand Strat-style guitar. I say 1969 because he had refered to it that way. I know there was a Japanese maker using "Pearl" later on but would this be the same Japanese maker in 1969? He also refered to this as being one of 600 made. Help Norm! I'm stumped.

I love this channel but you guys are pussyfooting around a lot of these questions. I own a late 70's stratocaster that I am actually trying to sell and was very interested in what the answer would be concerning their value. I got absolutely nothing out of that answer. If you guys really wanna take some time to answer questions then answer them. There's no talk of dollars and cents at all...
