I am surprised that people are asking about stopping cavaliers from barking.I have had cavaliers for many years now and they rarely,if ever,bark.They have no need to as they spend all their time with me and I communicate deeply with them.I they are hungry they go to where I feed them,if they need a toilet break they stand at the back door etc.Perhaps these dogs are left alone for long periods of time.Cavaliers do hate that.Even when someone is at the front door my 5 month old tri colour runs to me and puts her paw on my leg or arm and looks into my eyes.Then she runs towards the door.Such lovely dogs!

He drools almost immediately and if the ride is long enough gets sick. I have tried just about everything! Sitting in the car with him not moving - having the car be on and off ect . Thank you for your wonderful channel! I'm curious about your thoughts and experience on how much temperament typically varies among cavaliers. We have two, both from a very reputable breeder in our area. The older one (about 3 now) has what I think is a classic temperament for the breed: very mellow, affectionate, eager to please. Our younger one (just over a year) is quite happy and affectionate as well, but also VERY energetic. Certainly much more than our older one ever was even as a puppy. She's also on the smaller side for a cavalier (about 12 pounds)--I don't know if that perhaps correlates in some way with how active they are likely to be. We love her to death, of course. We've just been so surprised at how different her temperament is from our older one's, and from what seems to be the norm for the breed. Thanks again for all your helpful advice and entertaining videos!

Love your videos …always look forward to them! watch every single one! my puppy Charlotte is tricolor and beautiful and now 10 months old …hard to believe how the time goes by so quickly!! we got her at the end of April. One thing I notice on her is her front feet turn out a bit, is that a concern for her future? I didn’t pay $4000 for her. She’s perfect to me! Her markings are beautiful …she’s beautiful …12 pounds …nice proportion… her head is beautiful… very feminine looking💕Is there a way I can train her feet to come together in the front? A tip for you for the static in their hair… I take a dryer sheet (it can even be used once) and just lightly wipe the dog down and it takes care of that static very quickly! Hope this helps…that shocking from static is no fun! I learned for barking the word Enough is a great way to quiet the barking…it’s hard to say that word harshly I say it almost like I’m singing it like Eeeenufff…always gets their attention….btw I should give credit to Susan Garrett Podcast “Dogs That” for that tip! Happy New Year🫶🏻 to you and all your lovely pups🥳❤️

Thanks for this vlog Charlie! I have a question too. Is it ok to brush my cavalier everyday? It’s always difficult to brush out matts (and she hates it so much of course!) that I do brush everyday to avoid those matts! I just want to make sure I’m not damaging her beautiful long haired coat, especially her ears, with everyday brushing!

Previously,the breeder has required any puppy I bought to be desexed within a month of purchase.Now,2023,that is not considered right and with the females it is recommended to wait until they have their first season.This is to allow hormonal maturity.Perhaps you could explain how you cope with a dog in season.

What toys do you give your dogs? My little Cavalier girl is a chewer and destroyer! As a result, I really can’t give her the usual toys that most dogs like to play with. Any ideas? I keep trying to come up with something to amuse/occupy her but she isn’t interested in solid rubber toys etc. also I don’t know if you give yours any kind of “bully stick type” chew things. I am reluctant to give those.

I was wondering how you feel about pet insurance.TY Sandra
@chaskat35
@chaskat35 5 ай бұрын
I have no experience with pet insurance - with the multiple dogs we have, it would be an expensive proposition to pay the premiums. Instead, we put all proceeds from selling the puppies we don't keep into a special savings account, and then we draw from it when we have expenses. If the acccount gets to zero before a litter comes along, we have to absorb the expense. I have been told that there is a wide variation in the cost and coverage of pet insurance, so I would caution everyone who is considering it to do lots of research before making a choice. Regular well-care is usually not a bank-breaking expense, but you have to make sure that emergencies (especially surgical) are covered, medications can be a costly factor and should be considered, and you have to make sure you know what the insurance company considers pre-existing conditions that are not covered.

Question from Denmark. I have 2 Cavaliers, 1 B&T and 1 Ruby. Both of them does this. I search abit and others call it a "cavalier hug". But if i lie down and my dogs are close by, they come rushing and will cover my mouth and face with they snout/neck. If i talk they will force they face even harder onto me. Feels like they trying to suffocate me 😂. But its really cute! Have you tried/have about this cavalier hug? And do you have any idea why its a thing? Does dog have smell glands on their face like cats? Love your content. Best wishes Thomas

When I see you there doesn't seem to be dog hair. My daughter has a 8 yr, old caviar king charles and I get to dog sit at my house from time to time. I brush and comb her daily..get loads off each day and the hair she still sheds is discouraging me from having one. I had an american cocker spaniel whom I brushed daily and bathed every 3 weeks and saw no bothersome hair in the house. I am older now and wanting to get another dog and thought the ckcspaniel would be less active than an acspaniel...would you agree? The sheading of my daughter's dog is what is holding me back, from getting a ckcs. Is all that shedding normal or is that poor breeding?l
@cavgrey8
@cavgrey8 6 ай бұрын
They shed. The breed is duel coated. It has nothing to do with breeding & genetics. Bitches & Dogs coats change with spay & neuter. Bitches blow their coats during whelp. Just like humans hormones play a factor. Seasonal changes may impact shedding. I vacuum daily. Ours are brushed every other day & eyes cleaned. Dogs are bathed every 3 weeks.
@chaskat35
@chaskat35 6 ай бұрын
Cavaliers are much less active than Cockers, but they do indeed shed. We have come to think of the dog hair as a fashion accessory. A good clothing brush and some pet hair rollers help a lot, as does frequent bathing and brushing.

As someone who deals with dogs wit behavioral problems (including "excess" barking), I didn't quite agree with your solutions to stop a dog from barking. There are ways that don't involve aversives (scaring the dog, making the dog feel uncomfortable, possibly accidentally hitting the dog with "the can"). First, what I do is define "excessive" barking. For some people, if the dog goes "woof, woof", they think that's "excessive". It isn't. Second, for dogs who do bark more than you might prefer, the way I like to do it is to get some good high quality "reinforcers" (rewards). These are often in the form of delicious treats, favorite toys, games, etc. Anything the dog really likes. When the dog begins barking, try to get his or her attention and "distract" him or her with a nice game of tug or fetch or some other game the dog enjoys. Then praise. If that doesn't work (it works for many dogs, but certainly not all of them), use food. They have to stop barking to take a breath. Give them a treat when they aren't barking. Say "enough" or "Thank you" or some other word when you give the treat. Soon, the word you say ("enough" or "thank you") will become "conditioned" and when you say the word, the dog will stop barking. When my 3 are barking up a storm, all I have to do is say "Thanks for telling me about it" and they are quiet. I like "thanks" because I am thankful that the dog alerted me to something strange going on. If you notice, both Bootsie and Apple were pretty apprehensive when the can and that bark collar appeared. Bootsie ran away. That isn't funny, it's sad because she was so afraid. Apple stayed, but if you go back and watch the video carefully, she was doing a whole lot of "lip licking" (her tongue flicking out to lick at her lips). This is a pretty good indicator that the dog is stressed about what you're doing. She was also showing "whale eye" (showing the whites of her eyes)--another indicator of stress. She was looking away--another indication of stress. So just the presence of these objects was a stressor, a "negative" event for both dogs. These methods can and do work. I just don't recommend them because they are negative events for the dogs and stress them out. The methods I've suggested are both "positive" and don't stress out the dog in any way, shape, or form, and use something the dog actually "likes" rather than dislikes. And with really sensitive dogs--just no, please. Dogs will associate those things with YOU (you're the one holding and throwing the can; you're the person with the scary collar) and the dog will start avoiding YOU. You've harmed your relationship with your dog. Something you probably don't want to do. You certainly didn't "mean" to harm your relationship with your dog, but you did. So try to avoid "aversives" if you can.

Cosa mi consiglia a riguardo ?
@chaskat35
@chaskat35 6 ай бұрын
A proposito, mia madre è nata in Italia e ho alcuni cari cugini in Calabria. Ci sono molte volte in cui vorrei poter vivere lì anch'io.
