Ask the Vet - Best paddock footing for horses

I know a lot of barns that have dif paddocks with dif footing for dif times of year. We have such crazy, yo-yo weather so it is kind of nice to have a couple dif options. Last week we had the horses in smaller turn outs to get them out of the grass fields that turned to mush and mud with all the water. This week, we have them back in the grass fields and we are hoping for a bit of rain each night to keep it soft and not dry. Next week it is supposed to snow again so they will be turned out in the out door arenas since it is the only part that is flat ( so they don’t slip around on the ice that will likely to form in storms this late). Who knows, the next day we might be back to riding out on the grass if it all melts.
