#askthevetvideo I have a 7 year old thoroughbred and she has very thin hoofs and was shoed her whole life. I keep all my horses barefoot and she's not used to it. First, how can I make her feel more comfortable on her feet because she keeps slipping and falling? Second, what are some supplements that I can use to help her grow her hoof and keep it strong?

#askthevetvideo I'm helping my trainer train a pony who's bottom is stretched out from having a few foals from when she was younger. Her back end is always getting soiled. What's the best way to clean her bottom with out causing her to much pain.

#askthevetvideo any tips for a pre-vet student? This may not be a question you are able to use for the video but it never hurts to ask! 🤗

#askthevetvideo I know during the fall and winter it is a lot easier for horses to become dehydrated. Because of the cooler temperatures, they aren't as inclined to drink their water as they are in the hotter months. This was the reason my horse got impaction colic last week. It was a very scary experience and I really don't want it to happen again... What are some ways to encourage horses to drink during the fall and winter month and make sure they stay hydrated, other than keeping fresh water in front of them all the time and providing a salt lick?

Behind my horses elbow every winter he gets encrusted dirt (i think from laying down) and then he gets raw when I groom him. Any tips I am at a trail barn so I don't have water access in the winter unless i bring it from home or use cold water. #askthevetvideo

You talked about bot eggs, once you remove them do they die? If they are scraped off the horse hair and fall to the ground and the horse eats the grass will it reinfect the horse? Could you use alcohol or Vaseline to kill them, or rub horse with wormer to kill the eggs? What is the best wormer to help your horse with bots?

#askthevetvideo What is the difference between hot and cold therapy (i.e. sweating the leg and icing or cold hosing, respectively) and under what circumstances should each be used?

one of the horses I ride is an ottb, he has terrible rain rot on his hind quarters, any thing you recommend to use on it? #askthevetvideo

Hi Emily Watson, that is a great question! So great, in fact, that other riders have asked and voted for a similar question in the past! You can see Dr. Gray’s response to that question right here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mIGlhnyao5mqrZIm33s Of course, just like every horse is different, we know every question is different, too, so your question is still eligible for inclusion in this month’s video. Don’t forget, voting for your question is the second most important thing after asking the question in the first place, so be sure to check our blog to see if your question is selected, and to vote! Hope this helps! - SmartPaker Nels

#askthevetvideo I have a horse who was recently diagnosed with navicular disorder. Can you explain this in simple terms? He's being managed by the farrier and is currently sound and rideable. Would any of your supplements serve my horse well?

My horse had a really bad hoof injury for a kill pen that we rescued him from (it was a crack that darted at the base of the hoof and went all the way up and around his fetlock) and it is healing up but he still has a crack on the hoof wall that is getting smaller but it is still deep is there anything that you would recommend that I try putting on it to help speed the process up Btw he doesn't limp on it hardly at all #askthevetvideo
