I had a bad experience with liniment a couple of months ago. It was a concentrate in a large spray bottle used for the horses ok our team. After a barn clinic I sprayed the liniment on my horses legs and wrapped him for the night. Our barn manager found him kicking the wall in the middle of the night and not knowing what was going on he removed the wraps and through the might be colicing. He seemed to calm down a bit afterwards so he was put away for the night. When I got to the barn that morning his legs were all puffy and had scabs all over them. The concentrated liniment had burned the skin under the wrap. He got 3 weeks off and was cold hosed 2-3 times a day. It was quite the ordeal in both vet bills and horse management. At the time I had not realized that it was concentrated otherwise I would have put water it it. Read the lanes folks! Thanks for the awesome video! I'm no longer use it but now I know to be cautious!

I too had a liniment gel that burned my paint mare's skin. She did have sensitive pink skin. Bless her heart she didn't protest or anything. Another one of mine, a sensitive ottb mare, kicked me when I tried to put it on her!! So I guess it was too strong for her as well. It didn't burn her though. It was the absorbine gel. But it works great on my current gelding's legs. So definitely go by the advice in the video and test it first, cause for some it works great and others have a bad reaction to it.

#AsktheVetVideo my horse is awful at trailering. When I first got her she was perfect at it and was an angel. About 5 months after I got her she started kicking and leaning all her weight on the partition. She ended up breaking the latches on the door and the partition. She still loads perfectly, doesn't even look at it but when we start moving she flips out. I have tried shipping boots, no shipping boots, windows open, windows shut, different size hay nets, blanket or no blanket, partition and no partition, with a horse, with no other horse, and I've even tried riding back with her. We have tested for ulcers (which we found out she had but now doesn't after treatment, no change) we tested for vitamin e deficiency (which she did have now doesn't after supplements, no change). We are now giving her a hormonal vaccine because she is peeing while kicking and doesn't stop. She has issues balancing in the trailer but no where else. Do u have and tips or suggestions of what I could do/try?

#Askthevetvideo I have an OTTB who is now 8. We have had her for a year now and we've been doing daily lunging. Every now and again she has these green/yellow, Mucus looking ball at the edge of her nose. I've talked to my vet and he said not to worry about it. I haven't seen too many in the past couple months put I would like to know what these are and how to prevent them.

#Askthevetvideo I have heard that jumping a horse competitively can hurt and damage the front legs. I know horses jump "in the wild" but is there a height where if jumped competitivly or multiple times a week, will damage the legs? I would really like to know so I can make sure my horse isn't in pain or gets early arthritis.

#askthevetvideo So I know this really isn't a horse question, but I thought I would ask. So I'm going to school in the Pre-Veterinarian program and I was wondering how did you become an Equine Veterinarian? Also I'm team Sarah, just because liniment smells so good and thank you for answering my questions in the June 2017 Ask the Vet Video!

#AsktheVetVideo My horse is 20 years old and is eating Nutrena SafeChoice senior feed. We do contesting and rodeo events. Is my horse eating the right kind of feed that will help him to be able to continue running barrels for a few more years or should he be eating something else? Btw I love these videos! They are very informational!!

#askthevetvideo Why do chestnuts and ergots have that weird smell? I've noticed when you peel them off that they almost smell soapy. Is there any reason behind the smell? And also, what are the reasons behind horses having chestnuts and ergots? Thank you!

#Askthevetvideo I have 2 pasture horses that need to lose weight, they receive beetpulp at night so they will get their joint supplements. What is the best and safest way to get them to lose weight without stalling them all day or using a grazing muzzle?

#AsktheVetvideo I have a quarter horse that possibly has pssm. I know a specific diet and consistent exercise are a must, but are there any supplements and/or techniques that could help with his tight muscles? My vet sent out blood to test him for pssm rather than a muscle sample. I was told the muscle sample is used more for the drafty breeds...what is the reason why there is a different way to test for pssm (blood or muscle) based on what breed of horse is being tested?

#Askthevetvideo I have heard that spaying/sterilizing mares is an effective solution for chronic hormonal/heat cycle problems. Is the procedure dangerous? I have also heard that sterilizing a mare can change their personality and even affect their metabolism. Is this true? What other side effects are there?

#askthevet I have a 2.5 year old from the BLM and she has been progressively getting round in the belly. But she doesn’t really seem fat, if that makes sense. I have suspicions she may be pregnant. Are there any signs that I could be looking for or anything at all I should do aside from just getting the vet out and doing a test? Ultimately that is what I will do. If she is pregnant, how does pregnancy effect a young horse? Is the process harder on them?
