It gets even grosser. Juan Peron could not bear her weight loss and it would look like a bad corpse so those 'treatments' were in fact her being 'preserved' before she had died. It stopped the weight loss but made her suffer dramatically since she had no painkillers. This fascinating snippet of information was imparted to Madonna while she was doing massive research for the role, she immersed herself and the tears you see on her face are real. She was exhausted and four months pregnant, Madonna not Evita. Juan Peron could not stand to be in the same room as Eva due to the bad smell of the cancer and the preservation fluids.

Speaking of iconic things that happened to corpses after death, we also have Beethoven. After his death, Beethoven was buried in Vienna Central Cemetery. On the night after the burial, the town drunkard took a shortcut over the cemetery, when he heard a strange sound. He ran for the priest, who came out with him. Upon nearing Beethoven's grave, the priest heard the same sound and confirmed it was music, but like nothing he had heard before. The next day he called for the magistrate, who came out to the grave and put his ear to the ground. "Ah, yes. That's undoubtedly music and it comes from this grave. If I'm not mistaken, that is Beethoven's 9th symphony, but backwards. And there we have his 8th symphony backwards. And his 7th." After a while, the magistrate called for a town meeting outside the cemetery, where he pronounced: "Do not worry about the music, good people. 'Tis only Beethoven decomposing!"

Caitlin, if you can travel to Argentina some time, you're going to love the amount of stories we have, the Recoleta cementary being one of the most famous spots. *ANOTHER HISTORY FACT:* Juan Peron's hands were stolen from his grave back in 1987, and a lot of the people who were investigating the act were either killed or they died "mysteriously". My grandpa used to work in the Correo Argentino (USPS but local) when Eva died, and he was forced to guard a casket in the correo's office. He's 84 now and still mad about the fact that he had to stand still 8 hours a day (for a whole month!) next to an empty casket while the real one was over 1.000 kilometers away.

I'm a critical care nurse, so I deal with death pretty frequently. I have to say, your channel has been so enlightening to me. I was honestly under the impression that it was legally required for funeral homes to do all preparation of a body and that home wakes weren't really legal anymore. I hope your work catches on in my part of the country. One of the worst things about a patient passing away is not just the sadness you feel for the family as they grieve, but also how they aren't really given an option in whether or not they want certain services. The funeral home to where the body is to be transported immediately after release of the body is even included as a required part of county paper work. It's so sad to me that families have to go through a death and then are forced into a huge bill they didn't ask for or need.

Andrew Jones..... Do you live in America? 'coz hospitals don't prepare the bodies for burial here (unless maybe they are unclaimed, but usually the coroner does it at that time) Morticians have always pretty much prepared the bodies here and home wakes are still a thing but not that popular, usually the wakes are at the funeral home now.

This woman is trying to portray Peron as a heartless pig, but the truth is, he never got over his obsession with Eva...a fact that is by no means hidden. The comments above this one suggest that viewers are eager to believe this, without doing any research of their own... but then, folks seem to enjoy being lead. People pushing an agenda these days are a-dime-a-dozen...and it has become quite tiresome. There is a lot more to this story than the host is telling, and I don't think that is from ignorance.

You are missing two tiny anecdotes in this story. One, it is said that wax dummies were made to make the identification of the corpse harder. The corpse has a mark behind the (I think right) ear. Second, and this is sick af, Isabel was obsessed with Evita too, and wanted to be seen as her successor so badly... The rumor goes that Isabel would sleep over Eva's corpse every night so that her spirit, or something like that, would merge with Isabel's. It was the embalmer or the prime minister who told her that.. Fuck, my goverment officials are weird!

@Ask A Mortician I recently found your channel and at first, i was "WTF" but after watching a few interesting and informative videos, you kinda made me a bit more calm towards my phobia of death, and I say that in all honesty, there are mornings where the first thought that came to mind when I woke up was "I'm gonna die." it came down to the point where I couldn't enjoy my time with family and friends, or I was happy and out of nowhere the thought shadowed my mind and turned into a bipolar mess, of emptiness inside and balled up sobs in my throat. I still have my phobia, and I know it's something I can't control (no one can ) so I am learning bit by bit that its life, and since I'm still alive I should make the most of it. I love your videos and the oddly quirky and charming way you speak of it, keep it up! *presses sub botton*

Have you read Gulp, by Mary Roach? In it, she mentions that with the Hirshprung's disease and the issues it caused with distended intestines and bowel blockages, etc, he could be carrying around literally WEEKS worth of feces in his abdomen...and that's why he'd do a concert and look huge, and then a couple of days later he'd do another concert and look like he'd lost a ton of weight. I'm pretty sure he was autopsied because I remember something about them finding hardened barium from a procedure he'd had several weeks prior to his death...so maybe they just had cleaned out all that crap he was carrying with him and that's why the body in the coffin looked so different?
@23Scadu7 жыл бұрын
I googled that disease, and learned the word megacolon. My life will never be the same.
@everybodysauntjill20487 жыл бұрын
I heard he had that and when they got all that out it was like chalk. Could they have done some procedures like a face lift to make his face skinner and younger? I hope I'm not being to morbid on wanting to know. I just have always sincerely wanted to know.
@bsidethebox7 жыл бұрын
Yeah, in those days they did barium contrast instead of colonoscopies, but one of the nasty things about barium is that if it stays in the colon too long it hardens up like cement. :(
@bsidethebox7 жыл бұрын
StraightOuttaJarhois -- Germany's Mütter museum has a stuffed megacolon on display. If it was stretched out, it'd be more than 8 ft long. 😱The "previous" owner of said anatomy died at 40 and apparently worked as a sideshow attraction--"Balloon Man"--before his death. Thankfully, Hirshprung's is relatively rare and they've figured out how to treat it now.
