I got asked out by someone who later admitted to trying to mess with my feelings. I didn't even like her and I wasn't very popular so I said yes just to be nice. The look on her face when I didn't care that she broke up with me in front of her friends was priceless. I went right back to looking at something on youtube while she started getting angry with me. "Does bullying even count if it doesn't work?" Yes. I think yes. I was also a target of these childish fake date pranks in middle and high school. Though they tended to do the 'fake love letter' version. They'd leave a fake letter in my locker (of which I never used, goes to show how stupid these bullies were, and how little they know people like us), of a boy proclaiming to love me, and to meet up after school. One time, I saw my classmates giggling and loitering around my locker, waiting for me to go and spring a bullying attack on me. I noped my way out of that one. Unfortunately, they found many, many ways of tormenting me. Ignoring them never worked. Even to this day, as an adult, I'm still disrespected and harassed by my adult peers who like to target me. Things suck.

Not that it matters, since I would’ve said no anyways because I didn’t even know their names or anything about them. Granted, at the time, I didn’t realize I was being made fun of, so I just thought all these boys were lovesick cowards who clearly didn’t deserve my attention since they couldn’t even respect me enough to ask me out directly. The dating prank was weird for me personally. There’s also the sister prank, the friend prank, where someone says “omg hi best friend” when I don’t even know the person. I was shown these two pranks in many ways. Of course there’s the classic “my friend likes you” but I also got some girl who just held my hand and told me she loved me which was weird, and some other girl insisting that we were already dating. I wasn’t hurt by these people trying to “date” or “befriend” me, but I did have the premptive assumption that people who I wasn’t already acquainted with showing affection to me were doing it as a ploy. I rejected everyone, genuine or not until I started dating my current bf, I was loyal before we even started dating.

In elementary school, there was this girl that I disliked. She would tap my shoulder and say it was her friend that did it. One day, she told me that a guy in our class had a crush on me. I remember asking the guy if this was true, not that I cared if he liked me or not. I wanted to know if the girl was telling the truth. I think I asked something like _Do u like me?_ he said something like _Yeah, like friends._ Several years later, the guy confessed and asked me on a date (I didn't go). I still don't know if the girl was telling the truth or it was all just a coincidence.

I've been asked out as a prank. I never had the girl come up to me to say a popular boy has a crush on me, but I have had boys come up to me being like "Do you wanna be my girl friend???" or "Wanna go to homecoming with me???" not because they actually wanted to but because it was "funny to ask the weird girl out and see her reaction" It was clear on their intentions because either they would ignore everything I had to say or their friends would be giggling in the background. I got asked out one time in the lunch room in high school as a prank, and I could very clearly tell it was a prank cuz it was one guy's friend in a group of boys and it always pissed me off every time, but I never did anything about it until that day. Where I just, removed my headphones, and just said "leave me the fuck alone, I know your friend doesn't actually fucking like me, just let me eat in peace." Never got bothered during lunch again after that and what a blissful time it was. I enjoyed watching cartoons and eating alone at lunch. It was my time of solace, of comfort, me time. I didn’t really… speak… when I was younger- this lead to a lot of bullying for me. People would do anything they could to get me to speak. One of the reasons for this is that I had an unusually high pitched voice and they found this really funny. They would often make horrible inappropriate jokes directed at me or do those “fake asking out” pranks because they knew I wouldn’t respond (I would literally just shut down from the stress of it). They would talk about me right in front of me like I wasn’t there because they knew I wouldn’t say anything. Every time I answered the register they would laugh and imitate my voice, making me even more reluctant to speak. In the end it was pretty bad, with people putting there arms around me to force me to take pictures with them or following me home from school throwing stones at me. Others around me telling me to “ignore them and they will get board”… that advice was so damaging to me, when I actually needed them to step in and do something about it. Lucky my mum was awesome and did everything in her power to fight the school. In the end, when the school were doing nothing els and I was school refusing regularly, she listened to me and what I needed, she taught me from home on the days I couldn’t go in from autistic burn out or anxiety and in the end she needed up taking my school to court. Now I have finally finished secondary school and I’m starting college in September. Even though it was hell (for so many reasons) it’s over now and I’m doing alot better and I can begin to heal from that.

I was asked out twice as a joke when I was younger, and one of those times was with a fake note where a group of guys used it to have me meet my "secret admirer" in a place and beat the shit out of me. In college, a girl genuinely asked me out with a note, and I thought it was another prank. Thankfully, I thought it over and realized that was actually unlikely given the circumstances. Those experiences really threw off a moment when someone had genuine interest, and there was an entire relationship I could have missed out on had I been in a worse headspace at the time.

Yes, I was asked out as a prank. The first time was when some kids played "OREO" (the loser has to ask someone out). It was in the sixth grade. The kid, who probably was scared of rejection (or me saying yes, even), told me about the game before asking me out. So of course I said no. The second time was in the middle of science class in the seventh grade when a girl went up to me and asked if I would like to go out with some kid named Luke. I said no, because I was already skeptical. Then for some reason the group of kids persisted and Luke asked me out face-to-face (with the others watching). I said no again because I still thought it was a prank. He might not have been pranking me. I don't think that's the case. He was rather sociable, and I was a scraggly-haired kid autistic girl who wore T-shirts with bad puns and who used primarily memes to interact with people. I was painfully awkward.
@marcettejolly2 жыл бұрын
I was a victim of OREO twice, too, both in 7th grade. First time it was just some dude that I hadn't spoken to and was incredibly popular, but I was so socially anxious at that point I literally just walked away without a word and hid in the girls bathroom. He didn't share any classes with me even. His friend group harassed me for abt a month after. Second time was a weird kid like me. I said yes bc I was really into the idea of dating at the time, but we only "dated" (didn't even see each other at all during that time, btw) for a week before he sent me a VERY long and elaborated letter that went something like: "My love, I feel you have found someone else who sparks the flame of passion within you; I pray he keeps your heart warm where I could not" (i had spoken to another guy briefly and apparently in his eyes that was cheating) Anyway the dating prank is The Worst Prank you can get pulled on you, at least socially. The damage is so deep and so lasting... Kids are cruel.

And then they would "confess" and if they felt the slightest amount of embarrassment or hope and reacted positively, then their friends would come out and laugh at the guys. Some would even pay to the confirmed crushes of said students to do the prank just to make it more painful. When I was in 7th grade a girl said someone likes me multiple times, she does it with a different person each time. I didn't have a crush on any of those guys so I just told the truth. What I was thinking is why would there be so many guys liking me, it feels kinda weird. Once, I also had a crush on a guy who really loves to pull the some kind of "crushing" type of bullying to people. I was told as a prank during my middle school years by some kids that I used to hang out on my street with that a girl was obsessed with me and that she finally was brave enough to ask me for a lip kiss. Me, being a naive autistic child, was very suspicious about all this, there were so many plot holes in their story, but I thought that “what if they are telling the truth?” “What if I she genuinely loved me?” “This is my first chance at a proper kiss and I could make something out of it.” So despite all the red flags, I decided to trust them and close my eyes as they told me to, and lean to have my first proper kiss. But my lips didn’t meat the girls lips. Instead my lips met the licks of a white apartment mutt. Luckily what normally would have shot deep in my self image was instead rage at the fact that they pulled this prank on me and a bit of anger directed at myself for going into something despite noticing serious red flags. My self image escaped intact and this event just died down and I let go of it.

This isn’t an asking out prank but when I was in high school, a girl came up to me in French class and asked, “do you like girls?”. Me being an 11 year old that had no idea about the existence of lesbians and thinking she meant if I prefer girls as friends over boys I said yes. The girl then said “So you’re a lesbian” and her whole group laughed at me. Really did a number on my insecurities because I thought that was bad and she was saying that not even boys would like me. Obvs I can’t show that or they would bring it up all the time. After that I realised that people were assholes in my high school, even some friends in my friend group. I would try to avoid high school through my orthodontist appointments as much as possible because I knew if I said something wrong or weird, they would remember it for the next week or so and I just didn’t like being constantly reminded of what I’ve said on a random Tuesday. So I’d either make dentist appointments on school days so I don’t have to go back for the rest of the day just so I don’t have to see certain people in my classes. I’d do this and just throw myself into my work and spend extra time in my art classes because I loved my teacher who taught me, she’s actually the one that inspired me to choose to do art for college. Your story had the relatable aspect to it which as a kid you are naive to some things and feel as though you ended up in a trap, end up getting insulted or embarrassed over it and suffer from insecurity and low self-esteem for later situations and in attempts with making friends in the future. Not your fault that your life wasn’t as harsh or tragic like your peers who would of went through horrible stuff to end up doing those kinds of things and knowing more about harming others because it was done to them.

It's never happened to me because no one would approach me under any circumstances. Everyone at my school hates me for just existing, I never did anything wrong, so I don't have to worry if that happens because I'm sure it'll always be fake if it happens. Having no friends is great because then I get along with the staff and then everyone gives me that "teacher's pet" status when all I'm doing is getting along with the teachers because no one ever wants to hang out with me. They've backed me into a corner, and I don't care.

That situation sounds scarily familliar. Having no friends, nobody your age to break up the monotony of a school day could lead to some serious mental health issues. You know that right? Please talk to someone about getting therapy because this mentality could lead to a variety of problems. Now, and later in life. You've done nothing to deserve this, and I'm sure there is someone out there who could be a friend to you. Look for that person, someone who sees your worth and makes your days better. People like that are hidden everywhere, you just need to look for them.

I feel like I have all the qualities to make me a target of bullying, yet I experience none. People at my middle school and high school just didn't care, I slide by easily and attract very little attention. On the rare occasion people do take notice, it's to compliment a shirt I'm wearing. Despite all of this, there was one time where, like, two girls ran up to me while I was walking out of school. I say "like" because I never made eye contact with them, I focused on walking, so I don't truthfully know who or how many there were. One randomly asked something along the lines of "do you like me?" or "wanna date." I was completely confused so I said no and speed up, only hearing them ask why as I ran away. I don't know what they were trying to do, and it kinda haunts me to think what their intentions were and what the outcome of me just running away did.

to be honest they were most likely pranking and they didn't care to continue for example I didn't want to sit next to any of my classmates when they were eating food because I hated all of them, one of the girls came outside and stayed there for many minutes asking why I didn't want to be with them thinking it was unfair for me to be away from them because she thought I felt bad about being alone my other class mates that I hated most likely were told by their parents to do it because they put NO effort to convince me, they just asked, I said no and couple of seconds of meaningless yammering later they left

Where I would confidently reply with "no", yet despite that my parents has to tell to everyone from every branching family member how I was weird for not having a crush on someone and everyone would laugh. It's funny, cause I'm a Nick and the reverse happened to me in 6th grade. There was this... to put it nicely, heavier set girl in my class who basically hit her growth spurt like waaaaaaay too early and was taller than basically everyone (she was as tall as my teacher). One day someone said that I liked her or something along the lines of that, and to be fair to her in retrospect, she was pretty much dateable when I look back on it. I figure the girls who set her up were probably all jealous of her...adolescence, so to speak. So she comes up to me about like 2 weeks before our progression week ( a week where we go into 7th grade mode/ go into a "period" schedule for classes to get us ready for middle school) AND she kinda spills her heart out to me because she actually did sorta like me. Unfortunately at the time, I too was very conscious about religion being a factor in my love life ( because I knew her family was hard Catholic, IDK if she even knew I was nonreligious). I ended up declining because of the whole religious thing... and because stupid me was still too self-conscious about my size. She was left a little heartbroken for the remainder of the school year and basically had trust issues trying to readjust her social dynamic with whatever "friends" she had left. I don't wanna say it was out of pity, but I did end up befriending her for the last two weeks of school, after which I never saw her again until like junior year of high school as I had gone to another middle school on the opposite end of out small town. She ended up being like really cool, and when I look back at the whole situation, I feel rather awful for her being deceived and me being a vehicle for some stupid kid's twisted sense of humor. In high school, I found out she ended up hooking up with another boy and I was glad that things ended up working out for her because she didn't seem like she was in a good place when we had left off.

@staashj2 жыл бұрын
@@unclear6055 Hey, aspec here, not necessarily demi- I am just ace myself, but I have a few demi friends and want to try and explain their experiences. Demisexuality is different for everyone, but it is definitely not the same as just having basic standards and not wanting to raw-dog someone immediately. Demis physically *cannot* experience attraction to someone until a deep bond is formed between two people. People who aren't demisexual can. There is a difference between the two. Allos (people who experience average sexual attraction) could see someone in passing on the street, and think, hey, that person was hot, but not act on it. That's basic self control. Demis could see someone, not feel any attraction to them physically, but become friends, and then only begin to feel sexual attraction after a certain amount of time has passed since that platonic bond has formed. The time varies, as demisexuality is a spectrum like most sexualities. It could take months, years, or in some cases even decades for that bridge to be crossed. Another pointer, is obviously that attraction isn't guaranteed from the bond either, since, say a straight guy isn't attracted to every single girl on the planet, a demisexual person won't be attracted to every person they form a close bond with. I hope I explained it somewhat well? Sorry about the text wall, it's a very complicated thing and it kind of hurts seeing people pass it off as "normal" when there's a distinction, talking from experience as someone on the asexual spectrum.

This happened to me twice as well, 1st time was in 5th grade. I was ostracized for all of elementary school so I always sat by myself during recess. One day, one of the boys in my class came up to me and asked me, in front of the whole class, if I wanted to go steady with him. The entire class gathered around us and one of the girls gave me emotional trauma with this beauty: "You want to belong with us, right? Then you should say yes." They had never been that blatant about it before. I kept saying no, but they kept pushing me, until one girl just randomly shouted: "I heard her say okay!" - which I immediately denied saying but at that point no one listened to what I was saying anymore. From that day on, throughout the rest of elementary, almost every day that boy would tease me by constantly repeating: "You're still my girlfriend!" That was the only interaction we ever had, by the way. The 2nd time wasn't a prank, but a bet. It was shortly before I graduated high school. I dated this boy for 4 months until I found out. At least I managed for him to not win the bet, despite pushiness from him, but man did that break me. I felt ugly and undesirable. It wasn't until 4 years later when I met my now-husband that I managed to slowly rebuild my self-esteem. Kids can be cruel. It gets better once you have the right people around you, trust me.

That's so weird! This exact thing happened to me! I was new to my high school for senior year and the kids I hung out with were underclassmen and the special Ed kids. Idk y but they just seemed more genuine and true to themselves so I gravitated toward their quirky attitudes. There was this stereotypical "popular hot guy" and, one day, I was sitting by myself in cafeteria study hall, reading my latest obsession book series. We had never spoken, he didn't know my name and I didn't know his. He sat down all cool in front of me and was like "hey, wanna come over to my house later to hang?" I just looked at him blankly and was like "will anyone else be there? I don't like being alone with people I don't know very well." He stared blankly at me and was like what? I repeated myself and he was like "...no, we'd be alone." I was like "no thanks," and went back to reading. He just awkwardly got up and left. For the rest of the school year, I'd catch him staring at me and during gym a couple times he tried to sit closer to me?? I think maybe he wanted what he knew he couldn't have now?? I love that something similar happened to you!

I wasn’t really asked out as a prank, but back before my friends started figuring themselves out, they relentlessly ‘encouraged’ that I find someone to date, someone to crush on. I honestly disliked most of the guys and some of the girls outside my friend group. When I got frustrated about romantic feelings, I turned towards the internet for answers. I am proudly AroAce and maybe, just maybe I’ll find someone who’s willing to be in a platonic relationship. However, some of my previous friends had discussed pulling the dating prank on someone else. I am honestly really glad I left that group of people when I got into high school.

You're obviously not the only one, there are plenty of people out there who you'll feel comfortable with. It might take a long time, it might be hard, but if you really want it you'll find someone someday.

They always find ways to bully you that you can’t explain. “They’re giving me annoying compliments”
