Much respect for Seth for being such a gentle and patient man BUT being able to set a calm and clear boundary @24:00 -- And much respect for Gary for always being willing to be 'corrected' by Seth and controlling his unbridled energy and enthusiasm. Seth is a person he also cares for and respects (even if Gary gets revved up again and again throughout ALL his interviews, that ridiculous enthusiasm is part of his persona and he is willing to get checked back because he's engaged with the people around him). Gary, for someone who is clearly crushing it so hard in business I admire and am inspired by you, but as a representation of your audience, I find it somewhat ironic how you talk about how having such self awareness is you're strength, and how great emotional intelligence and social calibration is, yet you disrespected your guest by interrupting his interesting points in what appears to be an attempt to make one of your own. I would honestly be much more impressed with you if you would have just gave up the spotlight for Seth seeing as he is your guest and I actually wanted to hear his views. Luckily Seth actually is emotionally intelligent and has the patience to handle that level of rude behavior. In the end it was a nice show and I feel like I learned and will definitely be looking into more of Seth's material.

One of the greatest dialogues I've ever seen on the Internet. GaryVee usually projects his point of view, as does Seth. Here, we have GaryVee often disagreeing with Seth--so Seth has to DEFEND AND ASSERT HIS POINT OF VIEW. We see that he is much, much more intelligent than I imagined he was--because he has to provide reasons. Yeah, GaryVee is irritating, but he forces Seth to crystallize his point of view. Really a GREAT session. Don't miss it. Brings me to tears.

Gary you threw away a wonderful opportunity to learn. How could you just interrupt without bringing anything to the table. You might be the hardest working person in the world, as you claim, but yeah...tweeting and reading, trying to understand the world are two different worlds. Such a pity, you pushed too hard trying to match Seth and forgot about the one thing we all come here for, which is value. The fact that you and Seth are so different, and the fact that he so freely speaks his minds without being intimidated or inhibited for a second by "Gary Vaynerchuk", like some of your guests at time, should have been handled differently. Wish you well.

Gary did look rather immature. This is the best Ask Gary Vee because of that debate. Because I've never seen someone disagree and have that conversation where both have differing perspectives with Gary. Usually Gary's the head of knowledge but now we get another knowledge superhero in the room to join.
@marshmello_dematt9 жыл бұрын
+Alex Sandalis Agreed but I think it's the best because it reveals a deeper truth. I had to 'rewind' like umpteen thousand times to fully absorb it. It's when Seth talks about how there's a whole legion of peeps out there who 'think' they are using social media in the way that it was meant to be used but what they're actually doing is actually becoming the product themselves. What they're actually doing is using social media in the exact fashion that it was designed to be utilised....meaning 'almost addictively'. 24:23 "....You are not the customer, you are the product. It was optimized to make you anxious until you use it again. It was optimized to extract from you nervous energy not productive output." I like how he qualifies the opening statement......'problem with ' social media. I've had to think about this long and hard since yesterday.......and reflect. I reflect. It's *MY superpower.....heheh. (Vayner-reference). With this insight, I am reviewing how I use social media and consider how I am being manipulated by its' design. I must decide how I want to show up on social media and how I allow it to influence me and what 'body of work'...so to speak I would like to leave. I've recently seen consumerism understood like this...an evolution. 1st it was: Buy Product >>which became: we Buy Experiences >> We seek to become the Product by our purchases. >> What do I want to leave as 'my body of work' when we transcend product purchasing. What Seth discerned was that...many get sucked into the machine thinking that they've arrived when they've ended up abandoning their authenticity without even realizing it. This is the most fascinating episode to date. Many layers and then they just both end up thinking that each other is arguing a different point. Much gnashing of teeth and then they all slap backs 'n it's all good....The End. :D!!!

Love this! a REAL conversation between 2 real people. No pretending, no rubbish just two real people. Whether that's not what you like or not, it's what it is. Love you Gary!

I listened to this episode on the podcast, and actually took the time to come back here and comment, because: Why on earth couldn't you let Seth finish his sentence? Maybe it comes across better on video, but I got angrier and angrier while running (good fuel, haha). Seriously, big thumbs up for Seth Godin for staying composed and bringing his point to the finish line. Loved the answers he gave, love the fact that he was on the show, but ...(and I am sure Gary is aware of this) Gary should never be a moderator or interviewer. Jesus!- end of rant- Still, great show and content!

This was just brilliant! Loved the interchange between you two guys - terrified to find I'm several years older than Seth because I want to be him when I grow up. Gary, your energy, drive, positivity and can-do attitude is inspiring. I am inspired! Thank you both, immensely.

I love Gary but he's too competitive with Seth in this interview. He's treating Seth more like an enemy than an allie.

I guess he somehow subconscious wanted to proof seth he is on the same level as him because he admires him. But this is kind of idiotic, if he would listen more what Seth tried to say the interview would have gone much better...

it's awesome to watch smart and successful people be be relaxed and act in a very natural way around their peers and someone they respect even though they're on camera. I had a feeling that some of Gary's excitement of teasing Seth broke my screen and got to me. THANK YOU BOTH, YOU ARE AMAZING! And the advice is extremely helpful Gary, you have me sitting down with pen and paper watching video over video. spasibo Vam bolshoe!

Really good episode. Two very different styles and perspectives that when you put them together add up to some really interesting stuff.

Seth's got it figured out man. That thing about eliminating distractions and making yourself bored is key. So glad I came back to this video.

It's great to see where Gary is at in his career that he can still learn a thing or two. Being an entrepreneur is an on-going learning process. I put this episode, 2nd to episode #118.

+Seera Masters Love the debates. Seth definitely offers a different perspective from Gary's. This is a thought-provoking episode. Now we have to think critically and decide what approach works best for us; both of them make really good points.

The opposing thoughts are very engaging! Loving it from start till finish! Thanks Seth and Gary, you both have the magnetism that pulls the audience right into the conversation. Watching Askgaryvee exposes me to alot of great minds whom I'll follow, right after the show!

gary has improved in his listening skills since then, shows that even if you genuinely act a certain way, doesn’t mean that you can’t at least slowly improve to become a better person.

I don't know Gary I think the score is Seth 4 to 1. This was seriously my favorite show so far! I was physically nervous through out because of the constant bating and thought interruptions but also weirdly satisfied because of the obvious friendship and mutual respect!

Seth Godin's wise contents and calmness in his voice and the ability to react within his rational mind while being constantly interrupted made ppl see how profound he is within his heart and mind, from an eastern culture point of view, this is a lot of virtue, wise, calm, patient, kind, big-picture mind, much in contrast with the other one's rudeness, insecurity, desire for spot-light, not listening really and quick making wrong conclusions, even just by watching it here is hard to take, Seth has much more wisdom to have even completed the show without walking out or losing his mind.

As many people have mentioned, I also LOVE Gary Vee. He offers so much for everyone to learn from and he's a true pioneer. No one is perfect and I feel out of place to point out someone's flaws when I have many more than Gary ever will but Gary always mentions that he's proud of his emotional intelligence. A large part of that is active listening and knowing when you have brought someone on your show for their opinion to actually let him give it. I think he was just super pumped and excited to have Seth there and it did give Seth a squeeze which was interesting but I feel we could've heard so much more from him had Gary let him speak. Meditation would helps with this Mr Vee but you're still one of my heroes. x

I honestly think Gary’s interruptions and abrupt responses were a result of him feeling “pricked in the heart” because social is the place Gary has built everything. Seth thinks on a different level and this isn’t to say Gary is ignorant (quite the opposite) it’s just, these guys are functioning on different playing fields. Both bring amazing things to the table but at the end of the day this was an abrasive interview and Seth operated with great humility and patience.

This episode puts a full stop on my interest in watching your dailyvee Gary. Thanks for bringing out this gem of a person. Seth was so cool! Ridiculously cool! He is brilliant, amazing and a rockstar. And you were such an attention seeking, arguing teenager! Henceforth I am heading over to Seth's blog for any further help over marketing stuff. You totally disrobed your position of respect in my view. Nevertheless, thanks a ton for bringing this star to the table. Seth! i salute you!

Great guest. Terrible host. He was clearly out of his depth and spent the entire time butting in with irritating comments. The 'I hate science' part was laughable. This lad is embarrassing himself.

Interesting episode. I can't figure out if Gary and Seth are super super tight and they were playing with each other or if Gary crossed the line a few times and pissed Seth off. My gut tells me they are close and no harm was done :) To add to this I just listened to Seth on the Tim Ferriss podcast and had a similar vibe. I felt there was a disconnect from Tim and Seth and times. I think Seth may be such a deep thoughtful thinker that when he gets into answering a question someone like Gary can't wait to hear the full 5 minute answer. Regardless I enjoyed this episode. There were uncomfortable moments but best of all there was a challenge both from Seth and Gary and I think that is important.

If anything, Seth was being defensive because he didn't think that Gary was hearing him, but really, Gary was aware of where Seth was going, cutting out the fluff, and rebutting the point that Seth was headed towards. Good shit.

Wow, one of THE best episodes of the Ask Gary Vee show..! Awesome banter back and forth between Seth and Gary. It was exciting and interesting to see two great masterminds trading thoughts and discussing opinions in a nicely-paced, productive, and insightful manner. Seth's calm and slow delivery, Gary's quickfire and active brain.

Sorry Gary, this time I have to give it to Seth Godin. I knew exactly what he was talking about and I agree with him for 100%. I think what he means is it's not all about how to use all the tools at our disposal as some of you're followers tend to belief. It's just that a tool, before trying to create waves and building a brand bla bla bla. Strategy in my humble opinion comes second. Most important it is to find what it is you need to do, like to do and do only that as much as you can before trying to expand into all areas. Creating real value first.1 second ago•
