The i530s are a great set of irons, really don't get the coverage they should. Ping have done a great job in its design and as long as you get fitted correctly for them, you'll maximise what benefits bring from it's design 👍🏻

I got the 525s 2 months ago to replace my apex 21s. Night and day difference and I'm the exact same as you for hitting an off centre strike and just being absolutely stunned by how much better the result is. Especially on the toe they are incredible. Seems the 530s are even better but I really liked the old loft specs and they should have stayed with them. I'm a 6HC playing twice a week.

Great review as always. Although I suspect that the objective differences will be trivial and the primary considerations to select one over the other will be mostly subjective, I am hoping you will be posting very soon your comparative review of the Ping 1530 and the Mizuno Pro 245 (I am choosing between these two options this weekend). One observation - although the data presented is clearly done in a fair and transparent manner, there is a subliminal perception of potential bias when the videos are done while wearing a Mizuno hat, shirt, using a Mizuno golf ball next to multiple Mizuno golf bags.

These actually look perfect for me. I've been gaming the Ping iBlades for the past 7-8 years now, and i'm getting older. Once upon a time i could hit that 7 iron about 158-160 if i got on it, but now i'm down to about 150-155 on it. AND the spin i have for that iBlade club is in the 6600-7000 rpm range. If this club actually brings my spin down, i think it'll be a good thing for me.

Great review as always. Given how you said how similar the i530 compares to the g730 i would guess Ping released both these irons to cater to a players personal preference in terms of looks 🤷🏻‍♂️. G730 looks to have quite a bit more offset though so that may be the difference between the two different golfers that would game each of these irons. Keep up the good work 🏌🏻‍♂️

If this is better than the 525 then it is going to be a special club, because the 525 was awfully good. Right now the 525's are on sale in the US for around 145 dollars per club. I imagine the 530's are going to come out at considerably closer to 200 per.

I played Ping irons for years. Loved many of my sets. the only negatives with PINGs is if you want to adjust loft or lie. Good Luck. Not many club builders will touch them. You'll have to send them back to PING.
@AskGolfNut
@AskGolfNut 5 ай бұрын
That is very true, on the flip side though, Ping is guaranteed to do it absolutely spot on where local pro shops can easily bend it either too much or too little in both directions. Also Ping often does it even after college tuom and delivery charges very competitively price wise to local pro shops.... The only real downside from my point of view is the time it takes for them to turn them around 👍🏻

I really appreciate all the work you put into these videos. For an average golfer, like myself, I especially enjoy the testing you do at different swing speeds and strikes across the clubface. I'm trying to find irons to replace my Callaway Apex CF16s. I love my irons but they are getting old and I want to replace them. In addition to these Pings, I was wondering if you have any suggestions for irons I should look into? My speed with a 7 iron is 78-80MPH, I tend to swing from in to out with a natural baby draw but my miss is a pull/big draw. I'm more likely to hit the toe of the iron when I leave the middle and I'm a 12 handicap. Thanks in advance.
@AskGolfNut
@AskGolfNut 7 ай бұрын
The JPX923s are good from the toe section, as are a lot of clubs being honest. It's more searching for the right lofts that'll leave you a functional 6 iron before having to transition to a hybrid. Thanks very much for the kind feedback 👍🏻 👍🏻

I find this habit that manufacturers have today of changing models every two years, or even every year for some, really unbearable. Not only are clubs becoming more and more expensive. But what's more, old models are devaluing at dizzying speed. The I525, released two years ago, is already losing 30% new in stores and at least 50% used. Nevertheless this was a nice and professional video.

With the time they take to complete with the multiple tests that need to be done for a comprehensive review, honestly it's not worth the time doing them..... I’ve had the i525s for about 18 months. I like their performance in almost all aspects except the gap between my 9 & PW which is typically 20-25 yards. I had all the clubs power-spec. I’m intrigued that the i530 takes the PW loft all the way from 45 to a 42 (44 vs. 41 in power-spec) as compared to the i525. Perhaps they are attempting to correct this gap issue by being so aggressive with the loft? Curious if the i530 PW would fit well in my bag.

@AskGolfNut
@AskGolfNut 7 ай бұрын
It's very difficult to get distance dispersion on off centre hits unless all parameters like club head speed, dynamic loft, angle of attack, dynamic lie and face to path deliveries are all matched. The best way to understand forgiveness would be the measurement of efficiency or smash factor for the trackman people. This then can be used to see what the potential drop off would be on any given example 👍🏻

I'm at a bit of a loss with these. I have the i230s 5-UW and feel like I need a bit more help with the 5 iron from anything less than tee/perfect fairway lie (85mph SS with the 5-iron). The i525 in retro loft would have been perfect to replace the i230 5 iron, but the loft jacking on the i530s means there is no real option to blend them, other than to carry a second 6-iron which I don't love. Any thoughts? Also, I saw your comment below on added bounce in retro spec - I thought Ping created different heads for retro lofts and kept the same bounce, rather than just bending the standard lofts weak?
@StevenDietrich-k2w
@StevenDietrich-k2w 7 ай бұрын
I'm pretty sure that the low toe is in order to get the CG in the club as low as possible in order to launch the ball as high as possible. The reduction in loft from 30.5 in the 525 to 29 in the 530 is probably necessary in order to hit the proper window. A few of the comments will be about the spin being a little low, which it is, but it's probably impossible to get distance, high launch, and high spin all in one club. There are always compromises. If the spin is an issue for you then look elsewhere, but you will give up either distance or launch in the process. Just my $0.02
@AskGolfNut
@AskGolfNut 7 ай бұрын
There is also a factor that I use a semi lowish spin golf ball and that other golfers that deliver face to path and dynamic loft deliveries less favourable to low spin will see spin levels increase dramatically so this capture is definitely a potential case of the lowest spin to be seen by this iron at that speed 👍🏻
@justinstephenson9360
@justinstephenson9360 7 ай бұрын
Once you adjust expectations for spin based on the loft, the spin still looks a bit low. i530 7i has the same loft (within 0.5 degree) as my i210 6i and I swing my 6i at just over 80 mph. I get 5200-5300 rpm with my 6i so it does look as though the i530 is maybe 800-1000 rpm shy of what I would want. Peak height and descent angle are not bad, not as good as my i210 6i but that ball will still stop on the green in the summer (right now even my driver is stopping inside 5 yards because the courses are so wet). I really like the look of the i530, but not the club for me, I will keep my i210s till they wear out
@justinstephenson9360
@justinstephenson9360 7 ай бұрын
@@AskGolfNut Fair point, it is probably best for people to test for themselves with the ball they normally use, still think that even accounting for the ball spin might be a bit lower than I get from similar lofted i210. Might be fun to test a series of similarly lofted clubs at various swing speeds to see if the i530 has flaws or not.

Hi Jay! Loving your reviews - a good balance between comment and technical data. A more technical question for you if I may? I've listened carefully to your warnings in some reviews on choosing a (loft) set-up that hits the ball "too far". But my question is this: if I chose to go with the retro loft option from Ping - do they manufacture them with the less aggressive loft? Or do Ping just bend them before shipping, therefore impacting the standard bounce?
@gdo3510

I can answer your question. Ping bends them to either retro or power spec from the standard spec. I have the i230s in standard spec from U-5i, with an i525 4i bent to retro spec. It’s a pretty nice combo for me.

Hi jay another question which iron in the players distance category would you say is the most forgiving Ping i530, Wilson Dynapwr forged and as a senior with a swing speed 70-74 with a 7 iron normally launching 23 degrees and descent 42-46 degrees. So far best figures have been Darkspeed, T350, and ZX4. Want to test the Ping and Wilson players distance irons. Could the Mizuno 245 be a contender would appreciate your guidance as you are by far the best on U tube! Many thanks.

Love the toe data as that is my bad hit, or that thinner, and to see the drop off be minimal makes me want to change now. I hit the 525 and was so impressed. But like all testing is this proper gapping or is there a massive fall off at the top of the bag? I know Ping notes these are designed with proper gapping but have not found any content regarding that theory.

Kinda hard to blend these with I230’s considering the loft differences. Being the Blueprint S & I230 are the same 7 iron loft I would suspect the next iteration of I230 to be stronger 32/31 degree 7 iron.
@AskGolfNut
@AskGolfNut 7 ай бұрын
Best way to blend would be to not mess around retro and power lofting all of them and double up on an iron, say 7 iron for example. I230 vs i530 7 irons are perfectly gapped. Only thing to remember is when you get your irons custom fitted, to add 1/2 inch to the length of the i530 from standard and also maybe 1 degree flatter than i230 spec 👍🏻

Absolutely without issue, handicap is a myth of deciding which irons to use. It's a great youtube tag line and manufacturers love golfers putting clubs within handicap brackets... It allows them to be allowed to make so many models. Basically it should be evaluated in Forgiveness and Launch. These launch the ball well and are very forgiving for a Players Distance iron. 👍🏻

Absolutely right! Just beware of the loft differences, to save bending the sets around too much it may be a good idea to double up the 7 irons. The lofts on the i530 are basically 1 club stronger than the i230. So if you look to blend going 5,6,7 in i530 then 7-PW in i230 works very well. Just make sure you get the i530 1/2 inch longer than the i230 set to ensure the shaft length gapping works as designed 👍🏻

Sigh. It always comes down to club head speed. At my age (83 in June) and swing speed (70 mph with my 7 iron, a forged blade with 34 degree loft), it's a real struggle to get a descent angle of 40 or higher. So about the only iron I should use is an 8 iron. The rest should all be higher and higher lofted fairway woods or hybrids. So guess I now need to add to my 15 degree 3W, 18 degree 5W, 21 degree 7W and 24 degree 9W a new 27 degree 11W to replace my 31 degree 6 iron and a new 31 degree 13W to replace my 7 iron. Sigh.

Question… why would you not want to hit a 7 iron 190 rather then a 6 iron ? It’s easier to hit therefore there’s a advantage for you in terms of easy to hit 7 then 6. Don’t get why people moan and say I don’t want my 7 going 190 ? Why ? It’s a advantage!
@AskGolfNut
@AskGolfNut 6 ай бұрын
Due to normally having the same number of clubs between 7 and LW as with a more traditionally lofted set. So when a faster swing speed player uses the stronger lofted slightly larger loft gapped irons, they fidn the 7 iron goes a huge distance but more importantly the distance gaps between clubs becomes difficult to play with hence always being in between clubs. As a general rule the faster swing speed players need smalled loft gaps to maintain sensible distance gappings and slower swing speed golfers need slightly larger lfot gaps to maintain useful distance gaps. Again not iron models are the ssme, Ping have started to see this and is introducing another wedge into the set to offset this. But it's still effectively calling a 6 and 7 when they do that 👍🏻
