Verbal instruction is so subjective. "Spin the right shoulder down" "Spin the forearm down"...The cross-handed swing seems to demonstrate the movement Mr.Cowan wants from the right arm. "Spinning the forearm down" . Spinning is not twisting, is that correct?

Danny, Can you explain what he means by “spinning the right arm” -does he mean move down and around with the body or literally cork screw the arm straight down line throwing a punch?

@@scottbezsylko5476 He is saying “Spin ( rotate) the (fore)arm, NOT the wrist. Rotating/spinning the arm will square the face and by not rotating the wrist you will maintain the compression element of the swing. If you rotate the wrist, all you have is a “swing” ( with not much power or compression).

It’s not about humility - it astonishes me how many people are too stubborn to accept help from others and dismiss them through arrogance and stubbornness who won’t listen to anyone who may be correct about an issue they argued passionately their opinion could not be wrong - these people are the biggest waste of oxygen to mankind - if you have any sort of IQ you understand that knowledge comes in part from others - if you were going into a quiz and people have answers to help you - why on gods earth would you dismiss this or turn it down? An intelligent person listens to every single piece of info they can and strengthen their knowledge, I’ve seen people dismiss opinions before they’ve spoke because they do not have the intelligence to be able to understand that genius comes from learning from as many sources as possible to bolster their knowledge, I would listen to ten people of any age on a subject and take each piece of advice and internally dismiss what I feel is not helpful but give a chance! The next thing they might say may help me greatly - I just don’t get why anyone would want to be thicker for not being able to accept others views that may have just one thing that helps you massively. The best example - tiger woods has a coach - the best player ever listens to knowledge from someone who most the world don’t know!

Danny your first video with Pete Cowan really changed my short game, I love his philosophy, and being a Yorkshireman myself his dry Yorkshire wit “just like yer messin around” !! In his chipping and pitching lesson ( which I re-visit often) there are some absolute jewel’s of information and this video is the same, my coach is a strong advocate of compressing the ball and to do this, by exiting the swing left. I have always realized that keeping the right elbow into the body creates a consistent swing leading to a more powerful compression and pure strike, but the question I always asked myself was how to get the feeling, one thing I tried to do was to feel as if I was hitting out of my right trouser pocket!! I’ll be leaving early tomorrow to drive back to the UK and spend a month around the Leeds area and Hopefully to get a round or two out at your Dads course Scarthingwell before I return to Spain! Thanks again I love your lessons, but then again thas a Yorkshire lad. ( tha can take the lad outa Yorkshire but tha can’t take Yorkshire outa t lad ) Best wishes David Hudson Costa Blanca Spain 🇪🇸

The very last seconds of the video were gold. That’s exactly how I felt. I was throwing and turning it down early, so it’s a nice draw. As long as I keep turning, it’s a right to left on every shot, but turning it down with my forearm just provides better compression. I Can hit little punch shots without throwing it early and it really becomes my “straight shot”. A little over drops right, a little under drops left. The part that was hard to figure out is when he talked about “swinging down and into you.” I took that to mean, swinging left past the ball…versus letting hands work out away from your body (like hitting to the second baseman).

NGL, I've always thought Pete was cocky but I very quickly realized it's simply confidence. Ironically I started to do this motion naturally when I began working on keeping the face "square" all the way through my swing. Instantly compression exploded. @@michaeldiangelo1735 My AOA is around 3 down with irons & 5 up with driver so the biggest difference with driver (personally) is to be more conscious of swinging in to out. If I "cover the ball" with driver it'll hook. Nobody ever wants a hook. I spent a year learning how to hit one just so I could never do it again. 😂

I would like to say a couple of things about this as well as give a WARNING: First of all kudos to Danny for letting us see that he too is constantly seeking to improve his swing which shows that golf is a never ending journey. Secondly; it was a brilliant instructional video and probably the best I have seen. No nonsense, brutally to the point and lead me to have a new understanding of how to properly compresses the ball. I was so inspired I went straight out into my garden and started doing these practice methods. At first I just hit the ball fat, and I mean really fat and for the first time I understood just how much hand manipulation I was doing. Really scary revelation. After about an hour my brain got a glimpse of what was going on and I started to get a feel for it. When my brain "got it" it made the swing seem very simple and I was getting amazing power even from just half swings. I can kind of understand now why John Rahm does a very short backswing, the compression you get is incredible. Now here's the WARNING; Once your brain understands this and you get the feel of it; it is very very difficult to go back. After a couple of hours of getting the feel of this swing I tried my old swing again and it suddenly felt weak and had no power. If felt like I was guessing and that I had always been guessing. So if you try this method in any serious way it could be that you have to commit to it, of which I now have. I have a feeling my 11 handicap will go higher for a while but over time I believe it will fall dramatically. This knowledge is a revelation!

If you want your handicap to drop simply obsess with the short game instead of the golf swing. lol. Funny but true, this lesson was given by Lynn Blake years ago. He of the Golf Machine fame. He also addressed it in context of hitters and swingers. Both work but "hitting" is now the prevailing technique .... certainly with the irons😊

28:10 Pete finally clarifies what he means exactly by "spin the right arm down". He means "turn it down into you", which then Danny finally understands. A great lesson for all teachers, whether on the course or elsewhere - words matter. Don't assume people understand your references. Sometimes we need to walk people through step by step with specific language for people to fully grasp what we mean. #golfisfun

Excellent job, best instructional video I have ever seen. Found this technique about 1 year ago by myself, but didn’t know it completely on how it works and why. It has completely changed my swing and simplified my swing thought. I’m no longer a flipper of the club, so much more control and distance.

This popped up on my feed this morning. This is exactly what I've been working on for the past month. Pete's explanation of the right forearm rotating down while maintaining wrist conditions was eye opening. I've been wondering for quite some time how the pros are able to have their wrist conditions as such at impact. I've tried that motor pattern quite a few times and could never understand how they did it. I wasn't rotating my forearm. Pete's ability to voice what needs to happen in the simplistic way he does is a massive reason he is regarded as the top teacher in the game.

That cack handed elbow drill is so simple, yet so effective! I gave it a try in front of the mirror, and wasn’t expecting much from it. Suddendly I realized that the elbow just naturally falls into the right positions that I struggled to understand from other videos which just force you into awkward positions. Can’t imagine a better way to get the “feel” for it. Thanks for sharing!

Great video! 2 questions: 1. You might need to explain the spinning of the right forearm in another video. Does he mean losing the pre-set flex and extending the elbow? 2. Does the same principle apply to driver, as this seems to geared more to short-mid irons and hence better compression. Not sure how this would work when trying to hit a driver on the up? @@DanielMaude Not as easy as looks! I went to the range and hit a few hundred balls over three or four days. I am clearly a picker/flicker - and have been for all my golfing life - so trying not to do that from the correct position at the top of the back swing, I found really hard. Used my phone to film my hand and wrist position at impact and more times than not, my wrist angle was flat not cocked so need to keep working on that. Just watched your video on driving which explained really well how to get the trail arm into position going back and coming down. I have watched Pete Cowan before and haven't always followed what he was trying to get across but the 2 videos you have done with him and then your subsequent follow ups have been really clear and well explained. Just got to keep plugging away and get the old muscle memory to kick in! Thanks for some really great content - it has changed my golf.
