I agree so much with Mr Quaintrell, there really isn't enough fantasy on tv, so a lot of us have a low standard for it to begin with

As a fantasy author myself, I can confirm I hated that show. The fact that I struggle to get published while apparently "profesionnal writers" can get job for such a production while making the most horrible mistakes a beginner would spot is particularly hard to swallow...

The Dark Lord's master plan was hinging on a mere coincidence, and didn't even make sense at all. This was 5th grade fan fiction. At best!

It's surprising that Amazon wouldn't have formed a team of fantasy authors like these guys to offer input and critiques on the writing.

@@benjaminthibieroz4155usual Amazon mentality. WoT - “let’s ask Brandon Sanderson!! - nooo, he said last time we are out of our mind with this idea, we shouldn’t change like that! - ok, proceed with s1, we know it better!”

As much as I appreciate freedom of speech and like to think of myself as open minded, I have to say... an author who claims ROP was good and only had "a few plot holes", is not an author I would feel confident about reading his book. Just sayin

As someone who has not read the books or seen the movies i gave it a 5/10, it felt like a lot of executives had been extracting data from a database and made decisions with that

I guess I have to check out Philip C. Quaintrell, after all. Even if I didn't like RoP as much as I actually did, he was brave enough to admit his preference fully knowing how much shit he might get about it.

The show itself just looked terrible. Jackson did more with less almost thirty years ago. And that is still better than the story. Never let people who haven't read the lore write new material, especially material on characters we didn't need. I haven't met one person who has liked this show.

Have any of the writers actually read Tolkien? There was an awful lot of talk of the Jackson films (which I dislike more as time passes) but did anyone mention, you know, the written stuff, the books?

I didn't watch it because whether it was good or bad the amount of money they spent on this was way too much; inflated budgets has been a pet peeve of mine regarding films/shows for a while. All the money to make something look pretty means nothing if the writing isn't good, and I've yet to hear anyone say the show was great; even those who think it was good have things to criticize.

I’m on my second play through of House of Dragon. It’s a very impressive show. I’d say, in the long run, if they go for 8-10 seasons, it might surpass Games of Thrones. Everything is on point with that show, and the actors are all perfectly cast.

Not to be picky or anything, but the $1000000000 is for the rights and 5 seasons of the series and the rights alone are 1/4 of that amount, but that still leaves $15 million per season, or $18750000 per episode. For me it was very visually beautiful and if I disconnected that this is a part of Tolkien's world that has become brutal....... ..... It's probably best that I don't continue with that thought.

Dude, before putting a video like this, you should do some research. Tolkien Estate and Family hated what Jackson did with Bilbo and Lord Of the Ring. Tolkien family was very hesitant to produce something on TV again based on JR’s work. Before asking some author, i would ask some directors. Comparing a fantasy book writer with a movie director is … well, not the same. They were 2 teams bidding for the movie with Tolkien Estate. (Forgot which other company it was). But Amazon’s team was selected because they wanted to work closely with the family. Now i don’t know how you can base your critics on, because there is not much about what happened before Bilbo. Tolkien (if i remember) was supposed to write the prequel but never did. There are piece of work here and there but nothing that tie it together. So many characters are up for imagination. I thought the TV show was gorgeous, interesting, engaging, with lots of suspense not knowing what would happen in the next episode. Many bashed the movie because of the choice of actors (black woman as a dwarf) but honestly, it’s fantasy, so all the characters could be multiple colors if you wanted too. The reason people were shocked is because Tolkien grew up in a white privileges environment, although he went to WW1, I don’t think he was exposed much to people of color, so no characters of colors in his book. That does not mean you can not add them. So instead of interviewing some fantasy writer (i’d like to see how many of their books have been made a TV show), i would do a little more research and not be biased on Audience review. (most of them don’t know much about Tolkien anyway). Tata.

Why should I support a show that clearly doesnt care about the original lore?
