agree with most of the stuff.. we had a lot of martial arts schools in the area, it wasnt uncommon to see groups jogging down the side of the street, people walking into the YMCA, small groups in random parks in town, but in at least during the summer. most people around i have seen will take their belts off when shopping or traveling, so only wearing belts during training.

Hello, I am a 5th Dan black belt in shotokan karate, and started Taekwondo 4 years ago to improve my kicking and to get a different prospective. I love kata, but poomsae is also great to master. Since taking Taekwondo my kicks have improved so much, and I find I can use them quite effectively in karate. There is so much overlap, but I think Taekwondo basing is unjustified. PS filling your car with fuel wearing your dogi is also quite funny lol

I started to train karate when I was 10 years old and I always picked sparring over kata. 99% of my competition matches were in sparing (around 80 tournaments). Some were non contact, some were full body contact, some were full contact with helmets... Now, in my 30s, when I do not have much time (children, job, etc.) I would always pick kata over sparring. When children goes to sleep, I pick random kata and do it in a room. Even if I do not have enough space, I move few steps when I hit the wall and continue the kata.

Question: Do you want to compete when you’re old? My question: what age do you consider old is?
@gabe04282 жыл бұрын
I am 47 and would like to do some competing. I think old is not the age, but when your body starts acting like it just can not do what you want it to do. That can be almost any age.
@dianaklien15602 жыл бұрын
@@gabe0428 your definition doesn’t work because there are plenty of people under the age of 21 that have had their bodies fail them. For me, when I think of old I think of around 80 years old, but I know others might think 40 years old is old. What I wanted to know is what did Jesse Enkamp was thinking old is when he was talking about competing.
@gabe04282 жыл бұрын
@@dianaklien1560 You said the same thing I did, but that is okay. I am 47 and am not old, because I can still do the things I want to. A 21-year-old or younger whose body fails them is not old in age but in mechanics, their body is not able to compete. I have a brother that is 12 years younger than me, but his body acts older than mine. My only point is that being old is a deceptive idea because you have actual age years and what science thinks you should be able to do physically at those ages, and you have the abe of what your body can do, and how your mind thinks. If you think you are told then you are. If you think at this age or stage in my life I do not want to do something then you are too old for that activity based on your thoughts. Sorry to bring a complicated response to a simple question.

I have a 15-year-old, a 5-year-old, and a three-year-old taking Taekwondo with me in my little town. I know you guys like to pick at Taekwondo but this place actually does more the kicks and does a lot of sparring. It is also the only option close to us. It is less than half a mile from my house and everything else is at least 30 to 45 minutes away. Okay done defending my Taekwondo Lol. To motivate my little ones a told them we would to taco Tuesday at Taco bell if they did their best in the classes. My 15-year-old daughter always changes out of her gi and into street clothes, but I 47-year-old man just takes my gi top off and goes in my sweety tee shirt and gi pants, and do the same to my little ones. I just started changing my tee shirt now too, because I have been getting extra sweety practicing after class and during sparring. My daughter apprecieates that since it does not look or smell as bad.

That question to me was: Would you rather take this 1 martial art style or pick any style you want from this set of dozens and dozens of styles? If you ask someone to list the number of Kung Fu styles, the list might be like: 1) Wing Chun - Ip Man movies 2) Shaolin Kung Fu - Jet Li movies 3) Drunken Boxing - Jackie Chan movies 3) Jeet Kune Do (If that even counts) - Bruce Lee But there are so many more Chinese martial art styles that's never talked about as there aren't a lot of movies about them for most people to be aware of them.
