This video is awesome, and hilarious, and it has a great message. That being said: Troom Troom self defense videos are so bad, I wouldn’t even test them out in my bad self defense series because I assumed they were a joke. When my kids found some of them on KZbin, they wouldn’t stop laughing about how bad they are. I mean, when a six and nine year old instantly know it’s garbage, what are the chances that any adult human being with a modicum of intelligence would take Troom Troom seriously as self defense advice? Maybe the real problem is that Troom Troom is marketed on KZbin as “made for kids” so it ends up being recommended to children on KZbin’s kids platform. Not every child has a dad who has coached them in combat sports since they could walk.
@TheQue5tion2 жыл бұрын
To be fair, your kids already have a wealth of knowledge that a lot of adults are lacking. You also have to account for how naturally lazy we are as a species, so anything that looks like it can protect you while using the least amount of energy (in both the technique and in terms of energy spent training) will always be appealing to those who live a more sedentary lifestyle. And then, there is the Dunning-Kruger effect. People gain a little bit of knowledge on things like pressure points and think they know a lot, then see those terrible videos that enforce this belief through "practical demonstrations". I've actually had friends sharing such videos on Facebook. As soon as I get them to tag someone they know who has boxing experience in those posts, they quickly learn how terrible those videos really are. Because they will always believe a boxer over a martial artist on account that they can actually understand how boxing works.
@theBrightman2 жыл бұрын
Lots of adults don't have a modicum of intelligence unfortunately. But as you said the real problem is this is targeted to a demographic that is still developing reasoning skills and expects all knowledge to be in short form clips instead of long form training. It's bad stuff. Although I would love to see you do these videos in your series.

@msihcs81712 жыл бұрын
@@jamjambo351 That's just one of the many problems with these videos, in order for a technique like that to work the women they're marketing need to have Brian Shaw levels of grip strength (I doubt the average woman has grip strength on the level of the 4x World's Strongest Man Brian Shaw.) Master acrobats might be able to pull off some of these things, but the average person (male or female) would not be able to do that, for the OP it's more of a point where if you're large enough most attackers wouldn't be able to do much if you decided to take them to the ground. But once again grip strength and control of your body comes into play.

Most portrayed moves are kick and rear chokes (I have seen another troom response vid with like 4 rear chokes) while the kick is rare even in such a situation, and you shouldn't let people come at you from behind so the choke isn't very useful either. So important to have informed women self defenders involved in teaching women. You rock Mike! Love seeing you work with sensei Seth! (You rock too!)
@jamieo21472 жыл бұрын
I agree. Often these techniques are not taking into account the difference in strength and stature between the attacker and victim. Sure you can learn how to use someone's weight to your advantage but not by watching a KZbin video. You need to train against many different opponents in order to understand the mechanics for yourself. And if I hear one more man say the best thing to do is just give them what they ask for I will scream. Generally men's primary concern in these situations is being mugged. But that is not the case for women. Generally when women think about being attacked their main concern is rape. You can easily replace your possessions but the trauma a woman could experience is going to last a lifetime. This sort of content suggests that these techniques will work for anyone without any training required and that's not the case. It's dangerous.
@ziwi012 жыл бұрын
this is the most hilarious video I've seen today. Also, I agree with mike. Women (including me) have anything but the "oh, I don't know where I'm standing" attitude in the streets.
