Hi everyone! Today we are asking people on the street how much can they save in Zurich, Switzerland. If you like the video, please give us a like and subscribe. Zurich is known for high salaries, but also high cost of living. So how much can people actually save in the end per month.
Kind regards!

Extremly interesting video! Thank you Claudia and Jan :) What would have been interesting too, is, if that money is before oder after putting money into Säule 3a (if they do it at all) which is also a kind of saving. Maybe another question for the next time ;) And independently: It would be interesting and nice if you consider answering it your own question from your situation too (e.g. in the beginning of the video)!

One thing that maybe made a difference here is how people saved their money. So, you have the obligatory 1 pillar in your taxes to save for retirement. Then, with your company if you are employed, you have the second pillar. Then, with the third pillar (3a), you can save up to a certain amount as an employee or I think about 36k / year as self-employed. These are all tax-free savings. So, I'm not sure if when you asked people if they were stating on top of these savings or including these savings. I think the ones who said a lot perhaps were including the 2nd and 3rd pillars.

Hi Claudia and Jan, I have fallen in love with this channel. A lot of interesting insights and love the way how the video is engaging. I would really appreciate it if you could interview a few immigrants who have relocated to Zurich from the non-EU say Asia along with the process. Did they perhaps have to move first to another EU country, work for many years and become a citizen of that country and then move to Switzerland or were they able to directly relocate to Swiss for work from Asia? Thank you!!!!😄

Would love some content on how switzerland sees home ownership and how much you need to earn to buy a house in zurich! I did some quick research (dont take my word for it) but houses in Zurich go for arround 700k - 1.5 million. Assuming you need 20-30% for the downpayment, that means you need to have 275k in your bank account (using 1.1mill as an example). So if you're able to save 2k per month, thats 24k per year, meaning you have to save for 11.5 years to buy a house there. Also, lets not forget inflation, because if i start saving for a "1 million house" today, that will grow 2.5% average per year

Living in Eastern Europe as an IT professional, I am surprised at how little money Swiss people save both in absolute and relative terms.
@Micha-bp5om
@Micha-bp5om 8 ай бұрын
The salaries are around 5000-7000€ after taxes for IT professionals, depending on studies and experience. The rent is 2000-2500€, health insurance around 300€. 200€ electricity, internet. I got an offer for around 7000€ in Zürich, after rent and bills I would have around 4000€ to spend. My estimation is I can save around 2500€. Not worth it... I live in Germany and earn 5300€ netto and have my own apartament (still pay to the bank 1200€ monthly). I am also from Eastern Europe, my last salary there was 2200€ after taxes

Your conclusion is so wrong, you forgot so many things 1. Youre earning more than average in germany while youre offer from CH was just over average 2. You forgot about all the benefits switzerland provides: Cleanliness, nature, public transport, stability, peace, security, economic security... 3. With the money you earn in CH you can go on cheap vacation. 4. Youre comparing the most expensive city of switzerland with your city. Only 400k people live in zurich so the other 95% or switzerland pays a lot less rent. 5. In switzerland the taxes are really low So not onyl your calculations are nonsense but especially your conclusion that its not worth it to live in switzerland when its just in your specific occasion.

On any average salary you can save up to 60%. Many of these people just spend too much on stuff and also wanna live in expensive locations. Especially in Zurich people tend to dress expensively and eat out a lot, go clubbing etc. It's their choice to live in the most expensive city in the country.

@@user-ry2qs7xf9k they could save for a deposit which is usually 20% of property value (from what my Swiss friends have told me) for example if you wanted to buy an 800,000 CHF apartment then be ready to have 160,000 saved up which over 5/10 years is definitely doable.

Its funny that compulsive buying became so normalized that people cannot conceive of any other way of living. I always saved 60%+ of my salary without trying, I only buy what I really need and most things are not worthy to occupy a space in my life. Some people are just simple and they like a simple life. I really struggle to imagine where people spend all their money, never understood where it goes

@@andreasdelaware Its not that. They rent. I own my apartment and i dont pay anything for it except the tax so i can save 60+ as well. But i rented almost all my life and had amazing jobs.
