That thing hanging from the bush was called a Tinsel worm. It's a type of catapillar that when it makes its cocoon it resembles Christmas Tinsel. Most likely as a defensive measure to ward of predators. It was discovered in 1862 and they are very endangered. Awesome find Jeff 👏

The thing hanging from the tree is a lure for bobcat. There is probably a foot hold trap buried underneath, and a stake nearby that it is wired to. This is the time of year when bobcat's have good coats. Usually a good place to take a pee to deter the bobcats from their demise.

@@phillipemery5199 Right, but lets be honest here. Educated trappers avoid areas with foot traffic or places where thats likely to happen. So, going around setting off traps under the guise that you "accidentally" stepped on it just makes you a schmuck. It's one thing to not agree with the concept of trapping, it's another to actively interfere with a legal activity.

The fur on a string is sometime used as an attractant for trapping, old time trappers would use fur or bird wings. It’s white color blows in the wind attracts critters. They will come to investigate and find or smell bait on a trap and voila got yourself a new friend.

happy B-day to your pops. wow, i will never remember all the names of the rocks, but i never forget what they look like, the quartz with iron shading, the black sand. that wash you were showing, with that tree in the way so to speak, would be interesting to do a sample dig, and the quartz outcrop with that red dirt, jeepers, sure is a lot to learn about searching for the yellow. pretty amazing stuff. sure am learning a lot, now all i have to do is get my butt out to Arizona, or Nevada and start hunting. until next time. take care be safe, and find that Bonanza!!

As always I learn something new from your videos even though I've been prospecting and mining for 20 years, but for me it was more about studying the flow of rivers in northern California and where the gold settles.. I've walked by massive quarts veins with mica and limonite staining but I've never studied hard rock mining till I started watching you, Frank and Gly.. too bad my town burnt down (Paradise, CA) and I refugeed up to Oregon cause I still have a huge memory bank of gold deposits, quarts veins and abandoned mines I'd love to show you guys!!

Hey Jeff thanks for the geology lesson. I wonder why you didnt point out the contact zone between the country rock or host rock and the intrusion rock as being the sweet zone for gold deposits. That is if there is quarts coming up between the two. Did i get that right? Lol. It looks like a jumbled mess out in the desert .The Sierras can have mountains of rock thats of the same typ. Pops is right there with you. Thats the hard thing about getting older. You have people you love move on and you miss them. Im sure your Pops happy to see you continue on. @@Askjeffwilliams i learned something! Gold deposit in a vein without quarts.! Would a different carrier like greenstone be needed? I guess it would occure in a more igneous rock or a younger sedimentary secoundary deposit. ? Gold was originally deposited by asteroids is something i read. Its fascinating.

Ahh, man... Happy Birthday, Pops! 🙏🥰 You've got me over with a few tears in my eyes, thinking about my dad as well. Just as you said, we love and miss them with all of our heart and soul. It's not easy to move forward, but it's what they would have wanted. (I apologize for putting my dad into my comments when this is your pop's day). Now with that said, I have to admit... I wish that I had just an ounce of the knowledge you have about geology, Jeff. You're hands down one of the most knowledgeable people I've ever come across. Plus, you are more than willing to share your knowledge with people and teach them how to use that knowledge to find gold, and that sets you far apart from most. Most Old timers and a great deal of younger folks these days who have a similar knowledge to yours, are not willing to share their info or help people learn because they see them as competition and they don't want people finding gold that they could have found themselves. They are just selfish, and you sir are the opposite of that. Sincerely appreciate what you do for the prospecting and gold community. Not sure if you realize it or not but you've cemented your place in the history books that will cover prospecting and the never-ending search for gold. You are one of a kind! Thank you, Jeff (and of course Lila too)! 🙏

Hi Jeff. It's always very good to see you tall about geology. Here in Brazil we have some interesting places for gold deposits too, like Carajás in Amazon forest.

Jeff what a heartfelt tribute to your father you are doing him proud by letting us know all about the layout of the land how to read rocks and their formations just as he showed you when you were a young boy tell Lila she looking more beautiful every time I see her you are truly blessed to have such a devoted wife who loves you and gets stuck in with running the wobble pop mine.So you know what am gony say so come on let’s go and don’t be dropping them pants in a hurry with all them Cactus about.Anyway that’s enough jaw jacking from me so take care wee pal and lots of love from Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Absolutely love your videos I stumbled across your channel a long time ago I've always been fascinated by mines and Old mines I wish I lived somewhere where I had access to him because I'd be in them all the time. Oh I get to live by curiously through you and again your dad is smiling looking down on you nobody is he's always looking over your shoulder and he's there even though he's not here today would be my mom's birthday if she passed a couple years ago at 55 years old way too long I'll tell you what do all my depression of that I sat and I binged watched a lot of your older videos it really truly helped me get through a lot of it and I would love to thank you very much I wish I could show my appreciation but my best is a thank you and tell you your dad raised a very good man keep it up.
