As you know, there is also Wi-Fi calling. I am very happy about that function, as I am in the middle of the boonies and even with the cell booster antenna outside, I barely get a cell connection. Indoors and for a short distance outside, I have wi-fi enabled and I can make & receive calls. I recently bought a UPS so I can plug in my StarLink power cord so at least I'd have internet access from that one mesh router. Thanks for the analysis.

Hey Leo, awesome video...Yea, I'm commenting on your video using my lifeline phone as a mobile hotspot...I get 160gb of free data every month...I am old enough to remember when Optimum came out with the WIFI only phone that could only make calls when you were connected to your home Optimum internet service, their hotspots outside, or any restaurant that hosted WIFI...Optimum only offered the service for a short time...I guess because of not enough subscribers...Just as you are old enough to remember when kids were hacking their phone, in the early days of smartphones, to use their phone as a hotspot...Now its normal to just use that phone as a hotspot...

Here is one other type of connection, voice over IP. I have a weak Mobil signal at my home especially from the basement. I use the "Wi-Fi Calling" (Samsung) setting which allows me more reliable voice connection via home network (Wi-Fi).

One thing that has become quite common on new phones is the possibility to enable Voice over Data/4G/5G and Voice over Wifi: the voice service of your ISP being routed throught your data connection or your wifi connection, wichever the system determines as "better". That allows your voice service to still be available if you are at a shadow zone, but with at least a wifi connection

Mobile hotspot, or mobile tethering, is a life saver in some occasions.. when it works. Many cell companies just BLOCKS that such thing to happen, dropping the data connection entirely when it is enabled (that happens to me every single time I try to enable Wifi Tethering)

I have a desktop PC that normally uses a wired ethernet connection to my router. However, my desktop PC has a wireless card. So when Spectrum Internet goes down I'm able to use my mobile as a hotspot to connect my desktop PC to the Internet. Another common use nowadays is to use WiFi calling at home to use the home network to make phone calls rather than using the mobile phone connection. Most modern phones support WiFi calling.

Perhaps use the name 'access point' for a home wifi connection rather than a hotspot. Hotspots are often used by people who need to connect to the internet while on the go, such as when traveling or working remotely.

can you please talk more about security of different connections please

Maybe I'm a bit pedantic but it always annoys me when people tell me they have wi-fi coming into their place via a cable!

I keep my modem, router and NAS plugged into a UPS in case of power outages.
