Thanks for the follow-up video. We definitely appreciate the clarification. I did notice that TPG made that change and so with that clarification Ill be grabbing this cc. I was on 0/24 until May when I acquired the FU and then just this past Aug I acquired the NFCU Amex cc both for the bonuses and benefits. I'm currently on 2/24 so I will be looking at picking up A Flex card for the bonus plus the master card phone insurance putting me at the 3/24 category. I have the original CF, which I have had in my arsenal for 5 years now so I'm able to take advantage of this opportunity. After this, I don't plan on grabbing another cc until after I secure a home loan in the next 6 months so Ill enjoy continuing to watch these videos! Have a blessed week Sebby!

Was thinking of getting the OG freedom card before sept 14th for a few reasons. 1. I want the 5% grocery offer for year (thinking about cancelling the amex gold), 2. It’s a Visa card which means I can use it at Costco in case warehouse stores or gas is a bonus category, 3. I will get the 3x restaurants/drugstores, 5x Chase portal anyway when my existing CFU changes to the new version

The last business day of the legacy Chase Freedom 5% Categories card (VISA) is today. Apparently it expires this Sunday 9/13. At 5/24 this was the only option in order to get "grand-fathered" in. This was the first time I did a product change (CSP --> CF) and it was easier that I expected. Initially out of concern of losing UR points, I transferred my UR points to my CIP (biz) last night but the rep said in her "terms & conditions" script that it was not necessary. Lastly, I did have an outstanding 0% APR Balance Transfer that also transfers without any changes to my offer. My One-Sapphire Bonus every 48 months Rule ends in August 2021. Hopefully any future "start traveling again" promos for Sapphire Bonus sign-ups will be attractive in summer 2021. After watching and supporting AskSebby for over 3 years (plus 10 CCs later), I put your experience to the test today via a product-change downgrade. Thanks Sebby and very grateful!

Three Questions: 1. Why would you want 2 or 3 old 5x Freedom cards? (Just for high spend individuals?) 2. When you product change an old Chase Freedom card to a new Freedom Flex card, do you still get the sign up bonus? 3. When downgrading or upgrading a card, does it cause a hard pull on your credit?

1) Yes high spend plus Freedom OG is a visa not a MC, great for costco users. 2) I've heard you will but not sure. 3) Product changing is not a hard pull since it's the same account with the company. Only new accounts require a hard pull with chase as well as CLI's.

I don't see it, they are essentially the same. Yes CSR has good travel perks but Chase essentially made this a solofecta until they update the Sapphires. I'm not complaining, I bit with the Freedom Unlimited and cancelled my Gold for a year but that single Chase card got me covered for all my non-AmEx spend. I also hate rotating categories. I got my Citi Dividend with its special perk if I ever feel like using it.

@@rene.s.s With Freedom Flex, you get the rotating 5% categories and 3% for drug stores. You can use the 3% at drug stores to get grocery stores gift cards or Amazon gift cards for Amazon fresh. Once converted to UR points that 3% turns to 6% cashback without an annual fee.

I have freedom, unlimited, free Saffire(by request). Currently, I have a lot of inquires on my credit report so I’m going to wait until next year when 2 will drop off before applying. I have a lot of UR points so whatever sign up bonus I’ll live with. I’m keeping the OG freedom so I’ll have a make shift quadfecta with og freedom, unlimited, free saffire, and later the flex.

What Sebby said in a nutshell is, it's possible to get the signup bonus from flex even if you have obtained signup bonus for freedom in recent past. If you product change your freedom to flex then you won't get the signup bonus... So if you're under 5/24 rule, get new flex. If you have both cards, then you can maximize 5% upto 150$.

I set up a calculator where I broke down my annual spend by category and figured out my post-Y1 expected value across potential issuers and new credit cards; it seems that the Chase Trifecta fits my lifestyle best long term (i.e., outside of holding cards from other issuers for one year primarily for the sign-up bonus). I currently have CSP and CF, and figured CFU would be a reasonable next card since Ink cards aren't getting approved, and the CFU otherwise has the same new benefits (5% groceries in the first year, 3% dining and drug stores) as the Flex, with 1.5x back on miscellaneous spend. Does this make sense?

Chase is weird. I just got declined for the Freedom unlimited but expected for the CSP A YEAR AGO I’m under 5/24 and my credit is about 40 points higher then when I applied for the CSP card a year ago. Definitely calling the reconsideration Monday!

The Freedom Unlimited is getting the same upgrades Chase side as going from CF - > CFF. So if you already have the CFU and CF the only things you gain by upgrading are the Mastercard WE benefits like the cell phone protection. I ain't upgrading, I'll just wait until I'm out of 5/24 jail. Also Chase, why am I paying an annual fee on the CSP that gets 2x on dining when my CFU is now getting 3x?

FWIW I was 4/24 and applied for the Freedom yesterday, didn't have a 5% grocery card so grabbing for that and the SUB before it goes away. It locks me out of the CSR/CSP/Flex for probably 15 months but I don't travel so I don't see a downside. Potentially adding the Flex in the future if the rotating categories appeal to me so that I can double dip on them with the OG Freedom, or adding the CSR/CSP if the "pay yourself" functionality still exists at that point and I have enough banked points to offset the first annual fee.

An interesting thought regarding the Chase freedom vanilla: As of 2020, you can still product change to the Chase sapphire (no annual fee) card. You just have to request it. It does make me wonder whether those of us that just signed up for the CSP (I did, so not past my 1-year clock for PCing) can PC to the freedom vanilla later, just not the flex.

Fascinating I called in just now and converted my No Annual Fee Sapphire VISA Signature to the OG Freedom VISA Signature today. Now that grandfathered card is called the Freedom ULTIMATE. The opportunity to product change to the flex was unavailable, I asked about it specifically. My card number will not changed and in fact it already has appeared online as the freedom OG design and same card number. Anyway.

Ask Sebby As you sagely advise YMMV. Whether I’ve gotten products online or in branch or by phone they have a certain setup for me. Experian pull, somewhere between 20K and 21K credit line. Sapphire Reserve I was under 5/24 (Nov 17) second card I was solidly 5/24 (Nov 2018) & third I was at .... beyond LOL and 24 but that was April 2019. i feel like I did 5/24 backwards with starting BoA, Citi and Amex. Kind of curious how other mid generation millennials do with Chase starting limits when its their third card.

Welp, I got instantly approved for the CFU a few days before the annoucement of the CFF, so I don't think I can get the CF. I'm also still within the first year of the CSP, so can't PC that. In my case, I don't think there's a way to get the CF. because I got the CFU so recently. Thoughts on that? I do wonder for the CSP/CSR, if you can't downgrade to the CFF, could you downgrade to the CF? The no AF Sapphire stopped being available to the public, but you could still downgrade the CSP/CSR to it.

It doesn't look like I get a bonus for product-changing my Freedom to the Flex, so I'll probably apply for the Flex separately. Basically the Flex just killed my AmEx Gold with the grocery bonus for the first year, so I guess I'll wait until my Gold comes up for renewal in January, cancel it, and get the Flex then... and save the $250 annual fee for the next year.

I'm 4/24. Current Chase cards: Freedom, CSP, CIP, CIC, Hyatt. Looking to get IHG for the bonus + free night in November. Will fall back to 4/24 next June, so I'll pick up the CFU/Flex in July. Then I fall back to 4/24 again next December, so I'll pick up the one I skipped out on in July. Prior to the announcement of the Flex, I had planned to get the IHG Traveler card next year (with the intention to upgrade it to the Premier for another free night). With the addition of the Flex, I rather get that and CFU since I value UR points more than IHG points.

So for someone collecting chase points but already received the freedom, freedom unltd, sapphire preferred (downgraded to sapphire free) and sapphire reserve; this is a good option for a signup bonus with chase points. Interesting question will be what happens to the 5x categories on the regular freedom come October: will the freedom just not have anything? Will it share the same categories as the flex? Who knows.

Get the freedom first. You'll still be eligible for the freedom flex sign on bonus. Should probably wait at least a couple of months before applying for another card.

I am probably in the minority but I think this is a terrible move for Chase. All this is saying to me is get rid of your Sapphire cards. Now the only reason to own one is to pool points and transfer to partners or use their travel portal, but who is traveling for a while? I downgraded into the CFU to get better benefits, for now, than the Sapphire. I am at 2/24 but I don't see the point of CFF. I have CFU and CF, so unless the 5% categories are different, which I doubt since this a replacement for CF, the only reason is to get a 200 dollar bonus. That really isn't worth a 5/24 slot. Unless Chase has something better down the line, this is costing them business. I was going to bite the bullet and pay the AF, but if Chase is going to give away better multipliers for free, no need.

I have one question if you can help. I have applied American Express twice but rejected twice with 2 months gaps. I don’t know what is the reason I have score of very good scores still rejected.

I got my first Chase (SW card) this year so of course the tourism and travel went to 0. Lol. Thinking I will grab the Freedom Card now and see if they make me product change in a year or what I want to do after that.

I was considering a Chase card to diversity my credit. I currently have two MC and one AMEX and I want a Visa. I would also benefit from the point of the freedom. I think I made up my mind.
