Don't forget: most people haven't read your script 10+ times before they hear you speak. They're experiencing it for the first time and need a little bit more time to process your words. A rhythm that seems natural to you because you practiced it a lot is completely alien to your audience.

Exactly!! People presenting at school always cram as much as possible just to speak as fast as possible. They didn't realize people don't get 80% of the idea they gave.

Your 3rd line brings back all the fear to speaker " they need little bit more time to process" Means feeling of getting judged arouses here
@menoswater1032

@@prakashsuthar8856What you just described is a normal human reaction. When nervous we focus our attention inward. What you want to consciously do is focus your attention OUTWARD. Instead of thinking “they’re judging me” think about how you what your saying is affecting them. This helps with social anxiety in general. Even in situations like parties.

As an autistic who has ADHD too, I can talk very fast when I'm excited about a topic. My brain goes a million miles per hour so I speak fast. People tell me "slow down. It's okay" or "gosh, you're a renter gob" or "you come across as if you're nervous". Now I know why this can be the case. I seem nervous because of how I'm coming across with how fast I speak and it puts people off or catches them off guard 😅

Try the Wim Hof breathing exercises. The best thing is to take several deep breaths into your tummy, not lungs, and slowly exhale. Practice it every now and then. Do it right before speaking and during a pause in your speech as well. This will help lower your heart rate and makes sure you don't hyperventilate

Thank you for sharing your experience. I always encourage clients to rehearse under mild pressure. Start by rehearsing in front of a roommate or partner to experience mild stress. Gradually increase the stakes by practicing in front of more people. This simulates higher stress in a safe environment to better prepare for the actual event.

I have a kind of a reverse question tho. What if, you have a lot of key material to say (even after cutting down lots of points), in a very pressing time limit, which then makes you have to speak fast. In this case, surely, speaking fast will unconsciously make you tensed up. How would you handle the situation?
