Thanks for shareing this information. I have a Ridgid table saw which is enough table saw for my needs, but the fence and rail system is just crap.I need something accurate and I believe this will do it. so, thanks to you and askthesteelguy I hope to fix my problem in the next few weeks. Tony.

I have the 5412 Rigid as well. I like it, I agree that it's fence is it's week point too. I can't wait to start mine. Thanks Woodman, you rock. Thanks Mralh03 for mentioning the Rigid, I wondered what WM thought. Peace

I will have my fabrication videos up in the next few days. so between mine and AskTheSteelGuy's great series you should have plenty of information to make a new setup. I have looked at that cast iron top Rigid table saw at Home Depot because so many people have written me about it. It is a fine machine with stout and well made mechanisms. But you are right, the fence is a limitation.

Allen, In prepping the steel, according to your instructions the weld bead should not be on a referenced surfaced, my weld bead is on one of the 2inch sides, should it be on the inside or outside using you fence?
@AskWoodMan9 жыл бұрын
Duane Whobrey Hi Duane. Have the bead on the outside. The inside (towards saw and angle iron) is the reference and the outside is just where the cam locks to the flapper. Have you seen the written instructions, hi-res pics and companion video in a condensed form here. vsctools.com/diy-guide-rails/ You can also download the plans free. Allan

Thanks for the response. I have your plans and I've watched your video series and Jerome Pfifers(?) about 3 times each, but I will check out the link you suggested. Your videos are so detail oriented I feel like I can do this with little problem.. Thanks and keep up the good work.

Allen, do the rails for your fence system have to be milled flat on 2 sides?
@AskWoodMan10 жыл бұрын
I don't think so. Besides trying to mill a 7' piece of steel tubing flat would be expensive and I question if it could really improve the overall straightness for the effort and cost. 11gauge tubing cut out of a 24' piece is straight enough for my woodworking needs.

That saw with a new fence system would be something anyone who builds would like to have. It is some quality Taiwanese fabrication obviously from a very sophisticated factory. My hats off to Rigid for contracting such a great value. Please feel free to write me at askwoodman@gmail(dot)com if we need to exchange pics or more detailed info about your build. I just ask you to document you build. I am very interested and others will be as well. Allan
