Thank You for putting this out there for computer illiterate individuals like myself. My old Dell finally took a dump on me and I had to get a new Dell and of course it came with Windows 11 and I know absolutely nothing about it with the exception of being able to access KZbin thankfully. I subscribed and liked your video so I can "Hopefully" come back and take baby steps until I get the hang of what I'm dealing with. As a side note I already learned from your video how to increase the Font size so I'm not straining my poor tired old eyes to read what I'm typing.

Very helpful overview of windows . . . The TROUBLESHOOTERS in windows hardly ever work for me and can be frustrating. My wife is a novice user. She asked me why Microsoft does 'changes' and 'updates' without notification that make her computing experience worse. I informed her that MS has been doing this for years, and it's how they irritate users.

Heh heh, dial-up is a very specialized use case. As a Network Engineer, I have installed COM servers with built-in modems to allow console access to network device console ports, especially to remote sites. If I needed to do late night updates, changes or troubleshooting, sometimes VPN access wasn't available, or I would need to see the device console during boot. A dial-up connection was crucial when network connection wasn't available.

Interesting note about adding a new user. If you add a password at the time you are adding the user Microsoft will force you to create a bunch of security questions / answers. If you want to avoid this don't add a password at the time of adding the user. Instead add the user without password, Then log into that user's account and add the password then in settings in the same area. No prompt for security questions that you likely won't remember the answers to anyways if and when it comes up.

Have a video recommendation. I tried searching through you vids but couldn't find it ... at least not in one place anyway. How about a video that shows you exactly what you need to do to setup up a newly bought pc/laptop? Starting right with the local login rather than microsoft login (one of your vids). When should you install your virus program ... before or after backing up and creating a reocovery? What installed programs should (could) be deleted? What should be addded (your vid ... The LAST flash drive you will ever need). Think this might make for an interesting vid and would definitely help lots of people. I'm hunting for a new laptop so thought of this idea when today's new video popped up on my feed. :)

Made one a while back for Windows 11 (How to setup Windows 11 - SUPER EASY! kzbin.info/www/bejne/m2fbYqJoeJdlprM) Software installs are tricky. What works for me isn't necessarily best for you. And the local login bypass doesn't always work on every revision of Windows 11. If I had included that, I'd be getting hundreds of comments saying "doesn't work". Instead, I did make a video "9 settings you should change" that specifically deals with switching to a local account and how to do it. Hope this helps! 👍

Is there a way to include a custom background picture in the background list? For example, I want a picture of my Son on my desktop. I browse and select it from my picture folder. However, I regularly back up my pictures and then delete all the pictures in the pictures folder. Now the picture is gone. It can't find the picture for the background, so it won't display. Can I copy this picture of my son into a Windows "folder" where Windows can find it along with where the other defaults are stored?
@AskYourComputerGuy2 ай бұрын
Yes. I create a subfokder in my pictures folder called "wallpaper" and use the background settings to cycle through that folder. Windows can't display a photo that isn't on the PC, and you shouldn't be deleting your files during backup anyway, only copying them to a backup device. Otherwise, you're not backing up, you're only moving your risk to another device. Always keep your important files in at least 2 places to do proper backups - and that will solve your wallpaper dilemma 👍

Hey Scott, first I want to thank you for all f your great info. I'm looking for a review you recently did on a Windows laptop. I still have a week to decide but the 'Ohio sales tax holiday July 30-Aug 8' Is one of the primary factors along with price less than $500 other than features and functionality of the laptop itself. I purchased my current used laptop about 18 months ago and it's starting to do crazy things; I can't type a sentence without requirement to check my typing. It started with the B key and now several other letters are beginning to not respond unless I go back and type it again.

I did a review on an MSI gaming laptop and one on an AceMagic $300 laptop. Which one and I'll point you to it
@darlenesye16095 ай бұрын
@@AskYourComputerGuy TY Bro! I found it!!! The AceMagic $300 laptop is the one in question. I watched your review on that again and neither of you 'rathers' matter much to me. I'll be using it for genealogy research. It's what I do... Bud. I'll be purchasing using your A'zon link on Tuesday, hopefully A'zon won't run out before then. So BTW, as I typed a cc # on an order form After the comment above, an epiphany helped me question, "is it Possible that my laptop has 'a keylogger'?" My Avast Antivirus is current.
@AskYourComputerGuy5 ай бұрын
@darlenesye1609 highly unlikely. I'd run a boot scan to be sure, or at least put your mind at ease

I found it all very interesting but particularly like the last one for the registry, I will have to wait until I am more confident that I won't mess up before I risk trying it but I have found that feature VERY annoying.

Thank you for all this information. I have Windows 10 on my desktop but I have just bought a laptop with Windows 11 but I cannot put any icons on the screen. In Windows 10 I just click on teh programme and then right click to get the screen that says make a shortcut on the desktop screen. It doesn't work for me like that in Windows 11 so please, how do I put icons on the screen?
@AskYourComputerGuy5 ай бұрын
You should be able to right click the desktop, go to new, shortcut, then browse to the file or location you need. Are you getting some kind of error in the process?

My computer was to be touch screen why is it not working or how do I tell if I don't have it Help Please?
@AskYourComputerGuy9 ай бұрын
Look under device manager, display adapters. You should see a touch screen option there. Sometimes it gets disabled if the display driver isn't correct, which can be downloaded from your manufacturer

Question: How to fix keyboard response typing lags like walking through mud. New laptop with Windows 11 a few weeks old. I do my typing in the comments section of youtube and I'm 4 or 5 words typed before I see anything. I've checked everyones videos made changes of different settings, a few seconds waiting on the cursor to show up not sure why everything is so slow. Suggestions?

May be a bit extreme, but it sounds like you either have "crapola" or bloat on your machine...try this, will take a while but SO worth it, I promise! Clean ANY malware or virus off ANY Windows computer with one FREE and SIMPLE program! kzbin.info/www/bejne/b5m6qIxugdRnl8k

I want to add photos from a Zip drive to new laptop. Is this simply plug and go?
@AskYourComputerGuy8 ай бұрын
Assuming a) the Zip drive works, b) you have all the necessary cables and c) you have the right interface on the laptop to connect it, absolutely! Most ZIP drives that I recall had a parallel port connection (like an old printer), so you might have to buy an adapter for it. Once you have that, if needed, it will work the same as any other drive you plug in 👍

I like to have my desktop in a list format that is on the taskbar that you can click on and scroll through your desktop items, which is what windows 10 lets you do so you can have a clean desktop with no items. It seems there is no option for this on windows 11?
@AskYourComputerGuy Жыл бұрын
I'm sure it is. Go to the taskbar settings. Lots of options to tweak there

Thanks for this:) I have two questions...1. pretty sure a neighbor (building next door) is helping himself to my account because occasionally I can see his device and 2. I'm unable to copy & paste youtube videos with Windows 11. I've tried all I know to do as troubleshooting but still not working. TIA
@AskYourComputerGuyАй бұрын
One, change your wifi password...that will prevent your neighbor from accessing your network. And regarding KZbin, use the share option, then copy to clipboard, or send however and to whomever you wish
@TheDebmarciАй бұрын
@@AskYourComputerGuy I did change my wifi password and he still managed to get in:( Also, I tried the clipboard and couldn't send. I think it has to do with my youtube settings but I'm still stumped.
@TheDebmarciАй бұрын
@@AskYourComputerGuy Do you mean the gateway router password?
@AskYourComputerGuyАй бұрын
@TheDebmarci unless he has had access to your home, changing the wifi password should be enough. You can try hiding the SSID in your router settings, even change the SSID itself. So it will be a different name and also hidden

Can Windows 11 play games / other software which were made for earlier versions of windows? Where are the settings to enable this (if possible).
@JJFlores1975 ай бұрын
Yes Windows 11 will run most programs for older Windows versions. Do note that not every software is backwards compatible, but a lot is. The only way to know is to try it out. There are no settings to enable.

Thanks for this, I've only been on W10 for a year and am not sure whether to take the leap and go to W11...I use the PC (13th gen Intel) a lot for Zwift and indoor training and seems like all the advice from forums and those with some knowledge is stick with W10 as they don't play nice with W11... It's gonna get the usual cut off point though for support in the next few years so will have to deal with it sooner or later....
