Hi Scott, Idiot here. Thank you so much , I`ve just ordered a W11 AOI PC, so found this very very useful and well explained. It makes a nice change to hear from an expert who doesn`t automatically assume everyone else is an expert. Thank you.

Excellent tutorial. Greatly appreciated. It seems you are one of the few that can speak fluently with NO NONSENSE on the layman level with clear and concise detail that even I could follow, unlike some others that insert useless "info" with a whole heap of stupid "carry-on". I have gone back and watched every single video you have made recently and I can find nothing in any of them that I disagree with. All your commentary, tips and tricks just make sense and have purpose.Full stop. Please keep up the good work. From an Aussie..THANK YOU!

Thank You for putting this out there for computer illiterate individuals like myself. My old Dell finally took a dump on me and I had to get a new Dell and of course it came with Windows 11 and I know absolutely nothing about it with the exception of being able to access KZbin thankfully. I subscribed and liked your video so I can "Hopefully" come back and take baby steps until I get the hang of what I'm dealing with. As a side note I already learned from your video how to increase the Font size so I'm not straining my poor tired old eyes to read what I'm typing.

Thank you for this great video. I will be using the Win 11 soon. Since I am in my mid 70s I did not grow up with computer skills like my kids , and grandkids so we are truly ignorant about the whole process. You did a great job of teaching. I will most likely be revisiting this video over and over.

Very helpful overview of windows . . . The TROUBLESHOOTERS in windows hardly ever work for me and can be frustrating. My wife is a novice user. She asked me why Microsoft does 'changes' and 'updates' without notification that make her computing experience worse. I informed her that MS has been doing this for years, and it's how they irritate users.

I just powered up my new ASUS Windows 11 Vivobook yesterday and got my toes a little wet by creating the recovery USB and looking around a bit. I had downloaded this video a few weeks ago when I knew I was going to upgrade. I just finished watching it, and this video is GOLD to me. I will be able to watch it on my current laptop while executing the settings on the ASUS. As this video is invaluable to me, it will not be deleted because I know I will need to refer to it often in the next few weeks and thereafter from time to time. I can't thank you enough. Heh heh, dial-up is a very specialized use case. As a Network Engineer, I have installed COM servers with built-in modems to allow console access to network device console ports, especially to remote sites. If I needed to do late night updates, changes or troubleshooting, sometimes VPN access wasn't available, or I would need to see the device console during boot. A dial-up connection was crucial when network connection wasn't available.

Interesting note about adding a new user. If you add a password at the time you are adding the user Microsoft will force you to create a bunch of security questions / answers. If you want to avoid this don't add a password at the time of adding the user. Instead add the user without password, Then log into that user's account and add the password then in settings in the same area. No prompt for security questions that you likely won't remember the answers to anyways if and when it comes up.

The program keeps wanting me to Verify but with his email address. FRUSTRATING! He had set up a Family plan with me on it, initially. We broke up so I am trying to just create my own personal account. I even purchased Office 365 in my name. If this makes sense to ANYONE out there, can you advise me on how to delete his email and Organizer status? Thank you SO MUCH.

Have a video recommendation. I tried searching through you vids but couldn't find it ... at least not in one place anyway. How about a video that shows you exactly what you need to do to setup up a newly bought pc/laptop? Starting right with the local login rather than microsoft login (one of your vids). When should you install your virus program ... before or after backing up and creating a reocovery? What installed programs should (could) be deleted? What should be addded (your vid ... The LAST flash drive you will ever need). Think this might make for an interesting vid and would definitely help lots of people. I'm hunting for a new laptop so thought of this idea when today's new video popped up on my feed. :)

Made one a while back for Windows 11 (How to setup Windows 11 - SUPER EASY! kzbin.info/www/bejne/m2fbYqJoeJdlprM) Software installs are tricky. What works for me isn't necessarily best for you. And the local login bypass doesn't always work on every revision of Windows 11. If I had included that, I'd be getting hundreds of comments saying "doesn't work". Instead, I did make a video "9 settings you should change" that specifically deals with switching to a local account and how to do it. Hope this helps! 👍

Fair. Thanks for the feedback. I'm working on talking slower - there's a fine line between talking at "ultra-novice" level and "normal user" level, usually will add 10-20 minutes and that's a lot to ask of most viewers. I also get "don't talk so slow", so I really can't win lol

I was not aware that you can hide/view the desktop icons so easily, which can be handy for someone who has a very messy desktop but like things to look neat and tidy. I am just wondering if it is possible to make your own custom hotkey shortcut to flick between the two? And if it is maybe you could make a video on how to create your own custom hotkey shortcuts.

I didn't like how File Explorer was working, but now may go back to 11. Also, couldn't get out of the Microsoft account just so I could stay on local. Also, built a PC for my son who says he wants to stay on Windows 10, but will send him this link, maybe he'll change his mind.

Excellent information! 👍😎 Knock on wood, I haven't had a blue screen yet in Win 11 caused by even a crashed application. Wow .. that's a metric ton of chapter marks. 😮 Windows 11 never bothered me and I was an early adopter due to my Intel 12th and 13th Gen CPUs. About the only thing that really concerning me with Windows 10 / 11 is Microsoft's, telemetry and effectively a keylogger which was the first thing I disabled!!! Honestly, I prefer the taskbar in the middle because I use ultrawide monitors.

Can you create a restore point and disable system restore? How does that work anyway? Does it periodically write onto your drive? If so wouldn't that just harm your SSD over time?
@AskYourComputerGuy
@AskYourComputerGuy Жыл бұрын
You can't create a restore point if it's not enabled. Windows automatically writes restore points (when enabled) before any significant changes or app installs. And no it doesn't harm your SSD any more than creating a document would

Is there a way to include a custom background picture in the background list? For example, I want a picture of my Son on my desktop. I browse and select it from my picture folder. However, I regularly back up my pictures and then delete all the pictures in the pictures folder. Now the picture is gone. It can't find the picture for the background, so it won't display. Can I copy this picture of my son into a Windows "folder" where Windows can find it along with where the other defaults are stored?
@AskYourComputerGuy
@AskYourComputerGuy 2 ай бұрын
Yes. I create a subfokder in my pictures folder called "wallpaper" and use the background settings to cycle through that folder. Windows can't display a photo that isn't on the PC, and you shouldn't be deleting your files during backup anyway, only copying them to a backup device. Otherwise, you're not backing up, you're only moving your risk to another device. Always keep your important files in at least 2 places to do proper backups - and that will solve your wallpaper dilemma 👍

Hey Scott, first I want to thank you for all f your great info. I'm looking for a review you recently did on a Windows laptop. I still have a week to decide but the 'Ohio sales tax holiday July 30-Aug 8' Is one of the primary factors along with price less than $500 other than features and functionality of the laptop itself. I purchased my current used laptop about 18 months ago and it's starting to do crazy things; I can't type a sentence without requirement to check my typing. It started with the B key and now several other letters are beginning to not respond unless I go back and type it again.

So BTW, as I typed a cc # on an order form After the comment above, an epiphany helped me question, "is it Possible that my laptop has 'a keylogger'?" My Avast Antivirus is current.

Look under device manager, display adapters. You should see a touch screen option there. Sometimes it gets disabled if the display driver isn't correct, which can be downloaded from your manufacturer

@AskYourComputerGuy
@AskYourComputerGuy 8 ай бұрын
Assuming a) the Zip drive works, b) you have all the necessary cables and c) you have the right interface on the laptop to connect it, absolutely! Most ZIP drives that I recall had a parallel port connection (like an old printer), so you might have to buy an adapter for it. Once you have that, if needed, it will work the same as any other drive you plug in 👍
