I just got a nutribullet yesterday. It's great! Of course it's not going to compare to something like a vitamix. However for $80 it's pretty fantastic. Besides smoothies it's also excellent for making soup. For lunch I did a tomato almond soup with kale.. Everything was blended in the nutribullet then heated on the stove. I ate the soup with rice. I also tested the grinding blades with some flax seed. It worked great. So far I am sold on the nutribullet. If you ignore the hype it's a darn good blender for $80. If you can, purchase it at Costco. They have a fantastic return policy. They will take it back regardless of how long you have had it. You don't even need the packaging, all the accessories, or a receipt. So you could use it till it's dead and get store credit for it.

In addition to fiber, fat also slows down the absorption of dietary sugar, which helps keep it from spiking your blood sugar levels. Simply using some plain yogurt that's not non-fat in your smoothies will do the trick. For vegans, avocado can add some good fat to a smoothie to slow down the absorption of sugar as well. Also, using some spinach or baby kale in your smoothies will add some extra fiber to help slow down the process even further.

The biggest stress on the pancreas that I'm aware of is too many animal products. A single serving of steak requires as much insulin as consuming half a pound of sugar. As far as our ability to create enzymes goes... the biggest diminishing denominator of that is chewing gum. As we chew gum, our pancreas is constantly releasing digestive enzymes into our small intestines because we're sending the signal to our brains that we're eating food, but we're not. Over time, gum chewing will result in a decrease in the production of digestive enzymes as the pancreas becomes more and more worked, and stressed out.

I bought my Nutribullet for less than $100. I don't eat raw broccoli, not a fan of vegetables in general...but I love them in my Nutriblasts. Along with broccoli, I put in Kale, banana, flax seed, various types of berries, turmeric, almond milk(or water), and a gluten free protein powder. Pulverizes everything down to a pretty good drink, and considering I hate the taste broccoli.

What is happening is (a) you're filling up the Nutribullet past the "max" line, (b) it's leaking the drink you're making because the air-pressure is making the cup loosen itself from the blade, and (c) the leaking juice is now draining through the hole that's built into the motor housing. Take a look inside the area where the cup and blade connect to the motor and you'll see the hole I'm referring to. Following the bullet's directions will keep your unit in tip top shape.

The old version of the nutribullet leeched metal from the blade attachment into the drinks. If blending water, the water would turn slightly brown/rusty. Even with a brand new device. There are videos showing this on KZbin. Not sure about the new model but not sure I'd buy the nutribullet again.

actually it makes perfect sense... it shuttles straight through your digestive system at a high speed when you down a big glass of blended up fruit. whereas if you cheq slowly and allow the digestive system to break it down slowly, its more natural for the body... makes perfect sense and is prob why steve jobs had pancreatic xancer due to the copious amount of fruit he was eating....

I guess it'd be safe to say that too much sugarfrom any source is a shock to your pancreas. I can understand why there may be some bad conjecture over smoothies. A lot of people may not understand that fruits contain simple sugars and may overload their smoothies with fruits thinking all they're getting are the nutritional benefits.
@cptechno
@cptechno 8 жыл бұрын
Blending fruit, vegetables makes the sugar fine-grained and easily absorbed by the body. When a person drinks smoothies, an excessive amount of sugar is injected in the body (the blood) and so the pancreas, liver and other organs and glands work overtime to digest the smoothies. A long time ago (20 years), I abused smoothies by drinking a tall glass every morning and I gained weight significantly consequently from all that sugar injected in my body. So smoothies can be abused! I would not drink more than 1 cup per day and not more than 2 cups per week. Not everybody has the same sugar handling capacity. I'm thinking of people with diabetes or border-line diabetes. So smoothies diets have to be taken with a note of caution. Since then, I have found that eating fruits and vegetables in salad form is better.
@Mary-wk6oq
@Mary-wk6oq 7 жыл бұрын
Colbert Philippe well what about people drinking cans of coke or other drinks daily? Surely the sugar is 'fine grained'? The sugar in fruit is natural rather than made in factories. I would not listen to 'Colbert' do not be worried about drinking smoothies.
@cptechno
@cptechno 7 жыл бұрын
Mary, I tried this regime of smoothies in small qualities and the weight gain was steady until I stopped it. It's better to eat fruits naturally. A smoothie ever once in a while is ok, but a regular diet of smoothies is not so good. Smoothies inject a huge amount of sugar in the blood in a short amount of time. The body reacts by storing this excess sugar as fat!!

I am not an expert but the sugar in fruit is called 'fructose'. This type of sugar is present regardless of weather you are blending them or eating them whole. So when making smoothies you should be careful how MUCH fruit you are eating, because yes it is still sugar, but I don't think any nutritionist in the world would tell you NOT to eat fruits. It's all about balance.

Yuri, I heard from a physician Dr. Esselysten that when you break up the fruit content in a smoothie, the sugar molecules break down into frutose which isnt a good sugar and is bad for the liver and can be the cause of non alcoholics liver cirrhosis. He has a good video on youtube on how to reverse heart disease. I still dont know if what he says is true but makes me think twice before have fruit smoothies. Although i still consume them. Whats your opinion on his theory?

What is dangerous is the newer blade has a removable gasket in the blade assembly, which gets food under it requiring the users to pop out the gasket and wash it with soapy water. If you don't do that, the food that gets under the gasket will start to rot and smell. Not very healthy.

@rmc169
@rmc169 10 жыл бұрын
I think that it's because when you do smoothies you tend to use more fruit.. Some people wouldn't eat as many pieces of fruit if they were chewing. That is why you have to watch how many fruit you put in your smoothies because the sugar adds up and sometimes we don't realize it.
@jermelger
@jermelger 10 жыл бұрын
That definitely is true, someone once told me that when you dry fruit it concentrates the sugar and you then eat more sugar, this is simply not true, the sugar content only increases when you ads more sugar not remove the water. However, i have since realized that when making smoothies your sugar intake might increase because you are pulverized all the cells of the fruit thereby making complete access to all nutrients including sugar possible, whereas if you only chewed the food sugar and nutrients are still slightly trapped and not available for digestion.

You can "over work" your pancreas just as you can over work your liver. The pancreas is responsible for producing enzymes for all your digestion processes. Regardless of "what" you intake for nutrition, your liver and pancreas has to deal with it. Vitamins for example are particular hard on the pancreas and liver so there is merit in doing to much.

Smoothies can actually be bad for you - you'd rarely be able to manage eating all the fruit you can pack into a smoothie naturally, all in one go. Because you're consuming so much of the fruit all at once (rather than gradually throughout the day which would be better for you) by drinking smoothies, you're getting a LOT of sugar, which is a shock to the pancreas. Also, the food is already physicially broken down by the blender - not your digestive system, therefore the enzymes in your body that are there to break down and digest your food naturally are not being put to use, which could be potentially problematic - I apologise for not knowing why/how this part could be bad; I'm not a scientist, I just listen in biology class. To conclude, everything is good in moderation. Constantly consuming smoothies is not a moderate intake of fruit and can potentially cause you health problems. The healthiest diet is a balanced diet.
@melodystrahan7369
@melodystrahan7369 9 жыл бұрын
I would agree, except for the fact that people who consume smoothies for their health's sake make 1 serving at a time. In that one serving is usually 1-2 sometimes more leafy green vegetables as a base. These actually have a low calorie/sugar content, and high nutritive value. Adding a half an apple and 4 or 5 strawberries to mask the taste of the greens is a normal practice, and that's only ONE serving of fruit at a time! That isn't dangerous at all! You'd get more sugar from sitting down and eating a white bread sandwich and drinking a coke. Do some real homework before you start spreading panic inducing information next time maybe?

A fruit smoothie has tons of sugar...and you are in error when you say that 'the fiber included eliminates that problem'...or words to that effect. Some fruit smoothies contains hundreds of calories from just the fruit...even without adding sugar. I'm not against sugar, but there is a world of difference between a blend of fruits and one of just veggies. As a biologist I would concur that the blast of sugar does cause the pancreas to dump insulin out into the blood...but not a big deal usually.
