Bummer about losing the higher quality audio but really glad you posted it anyway Zac! This was still thoroughly enjoyable - Tim is an absolute pleasure to listen to. Not only is a monster player but he just seems like the nicest person too.

Tim’s explanation of how to get into playing chord melody/solo guitar was the best I have heard in all the hours I’ve spent scouring KZbin lessons. It resonated with me so clearly. Thank you Zac for this interview, and to Tim for his soulful playing. Beautiful.

Great video Zac, Tim is such an amazing player and so enjoyable to listen to. If I could go back in time to 1980 when I first started playing, I took lessons from jazz guitarist, he taught me what I wanted to play, which was folk and rock but I wish I would have asked him moreabout jazz, I know it’s never too late but time is at such a premium for me these days.

Great! Thanks, Zac. My heart dropped when Tim mentioned Mike Lull had died. He was THE guy to go to in the Seattle area for years. He did some transformative work on my Tele in the 90s, including adding a Van Zandt neck pickup. A true craftsman who always helped us get the most out our guitars. Rest in peace.

First off, what a fun interview!! Tim is one of my newer favorites because of his tone and musical sensibilities. Second, my dream Tele will have a humbucker at the neck and a Barden Danny Gatton pickup at the bridge. I basically use only two sounds....never use both at the same time. And it would have a Gibson or PRS scale neck. Lastly....the most unusual Tele video I ever saw was when Chet Atkins used one to play a Reed tune together with Jerry....also playing a Tele.

I’ve been bitten by the guitar bug for awhile now, especially the Fender guitar bug, and it all got started when I acquired my ‘67 Telecaster. I call it Frank the tank because it still plays and sounds like a dream after nearly 60 years of abuse. You can’t kill a Telecaster. That’s why they’re my favorite guitar. Thanks Zac!

The Telecaster bridge and neck pickup used either alone or combined offers a duality of tones. As stated Roy Buchanan best exemplified the versatility of the Telecaster. Leo had it right the first time and everything was an attempt to improve upon perfection. Thank you 😊

As I'm listening, I'm realizing how much Tim is a man after my own heart. I could play that Tele of his very comfortably indeed (though I'd usually go with the .011 string set he mentions). Love the thick, thick neck (opening up the hand, as he says), brass saddles, those pickups! Oh yes. And a Quilter amp through a 12 inch speaker (in an EH-185 cab, I want that). Almost like it's made for me! :)

Tim Lerch you not only a Virtuoso Jazz guitarist or a performer educator teacher etc...but a Messiah of Jazz guitar period.....thepioneers of Jazz guitar you mentioned Charlie Christian Wes ....had that great sounding thats right so Where iit came from not thé pickups amps strings Gears not for me it was straight from There hearts .Wes had that smile evzrytime he was playing why because he knew he was playing right and accurate cherry on top with feeling that the audience loved it ......The love and passion the pioneershad totally different from the modern day jazz guitarists.God bless you Tim

awesome! great xmas gift zac and tim! I just posted a video where I referenced Tim Lerch today is a matter fact ! every time I see him play his favorite telly with the curly maple neck. I lament selling my 90s custom shop that was basically the same guitar with just a regular pick up configuration and maybe some more grain, in the ash-but it had an ash body and a curly maple neck that was super straight and nice narrow vintage style frets and it sounded great and I only sold it because it wasn’t “nitro” Finished but guess what it wasn’t sticky either! and it played great. I’ve tried reaching out to the guy i sold it too, and he doesn’t respond darn it all. lol
