Have you been able to find any? I wanna go abroad and meet deaf people in different countries, but don't feel comfortable just going there without knowing anything

As if learning 1 Sign Language wasn't enough, they're really telling me "Go learn every language twice"... Please help me out, wich of these is most used worldwide? I want to know where to start..

the SLs that are most used worldwide - that's a harder question (than you think) to answer.. with that said, you would probably be best suited (espesically if you live in the U.S.) to learn American Sign Language first... become fluent in ASL , and learning other SLs will become easier, as the 'synaptic trenches' for language acquisition will be have be dug already... after ASL, Russian Sign Language, and Kenyan SL come to mind, based on how much influence those SLs have had on various parts of the world Happy learning!

@@aJCbilancione Thank you for answering! But I live in Europe (Netherlands) so should I start with my Local SL anyway or should I start with one more commonly used in Europe?

@@aJCbilancione what about international sign language? Does it exist?
@aJCbilancione3 ай бұрын
@@starheart04 "International Sign" (IS) it's not a formal "language" as languages are officially defined.. Here's the short answer: IS is more like a highly developed 'pool' of various signs, influenced by various SLs around the world.. It's highly developed - as used at the UN, WASLI, etc - but it's not technically a language

Why r there sign languages in different countries? I mean if they are just gestures, we can just make them international. Deaf people don’t have to learn foreign languages, don’t make it hard for them.

On a level i agree with this... BUT its the same with hearing ppl bc we have to learn different languages in some countries and even in countries that speak the same language as the individual (for me thats english) we still have to learn the local jargon/slang/sayings. I feel like a unified central language for the deaf and for hearing would be very useful but is unlikely to happen

Not so surprisingly its for the exact same reason why there are different spoken languages around the world.
@snowsearch8 ай бұрын
@@MrGlies what i mean is that sign language can be made international, alright? speaking languages are different from each other because they are formed from different cultures, but sign language, the culture barrier is thin
