#ASMBL - This is the 3rd test run of the #ASMBL-tool, that I did put into the E3D-Online #ToolChanger on dock 3.
As I work on the details, I want to take you with me on this exiting jurney.

Great series that you are putting together! I have 2 CNC machines and I have found that on parts that have thin top surfaces/features, i prefer to use the Contour Machining toolpath because it will follow the outlines rather than having several small interrupted cuts across the top compared to the traditional Face tool path. Based on the look of the chips and the movement of the ASMBL I think you are taking too deep of a cut and the chips that are staying attached are not getting cut off because the gantry isn't stiff enough. Try using the same speed (300mm/sec), reduce your chip size in half (I assume since you are extruding .2mm over the original model that that is how much you are cutting. Try .1mm instead) and see if you can have fusion do 2 passes on each cutting layer. If you activate a finishing pass then your main cut will be .1 and your finishing pass will also be .1 so together you are removing the over extrusion. I also wonder if using the TPU base is an issue. Because it is slightly elastic, it could be that the chatter marks are not because of a lack of rigidity of the Toolchanger but are actually a deflection of the TPU base so every time the tooth tries to cut, the print itself is moving out of the way. Maybe adding a 30 second pause after the first set of layers is the only way to improve the finish since it is closest to the heated bed and will have cooled the least of all the other sections that are cut.

Any chance you could do a video, of the whole process from design, slicing and gcode generation for ASMBL.

Hello René, The videos they are very well made and helpful! Iam starting with the ASMBL but still struggling with intalling that spindle on the machine... Can you share some infos about how to wire the spindle, connect it to the cardboard etc? I can't find anything on the links that i have (Thingiverse). I have everything on place but still don't now wich PWM pin i should conect to etc... Thanks a lot!

Hmm why don't you try ABS? it's softer and sandable and has a higher glass transition temp

And it is a pita to print. I‘ll start with the easy filaments first, and if ASMBL is up and working will try out other filaments ☺️

@@ReneJurack oh fair enough. I heard e3d say that ABS works the best and petg is too easy to melt. Etc. It's not that hard tho tbh! Specially the ABS+ blends from esun etc!

Huh you need a part cooling fan for AMSBL? Is it needed for PLA too?

well, you need a part cooling fan for the printing part 😏

Is there a reason for the relatively low spindle speed? I thought plastics did well at higher spindle speeds

Plastics actually tend to melt at higher spindle speeds.

Hey, could you export your config for SuperSlicer? I have tried, including with the E3D git hub config but i just can not make it work... Thanks in advance!

Damn the mill itself sounds more quiet than I thought. Do you have the time to measure the noise of ASMBL? I've been debating trying it too

To reach more precise parts in the end, better surface finish and so on. Combine the best of both worlds, the advantages of additive manufacturing and the advantages of subtractive manufacturing. Obviously, the shown results are far from perfect yet, but I‘m working on this already.
