This is the second video of the configuration-series for the E3D Toolchanger. After the initial setup I'll explain how to:
- hot tighten the tools
- level the bed
- adjust the Z-offset for each tool

I have almost given up hope on my e3d tool changer all problems have been my fault fine tuning to make these work well takes a lot of time and a fair bit of knowledge on gcode the the duet boards but if you keep these videos up maybe I’ll revisit it when your video series gets as far as I currently am

Whats the spanner thing you're using to grip the heated block. I normally use a wrench but this thing looks better.

It‘s a „knipex zangenschlüssel“ (literal translation is probably„plier-wrench“). In the video you see the 150mm electrical VDE version, partno. 8605150. There are 5 sizes and each sizes comes in 4 variants. The one mentioned above is perfect for 3D-printing, one size bigger, 180mm, is perfect for everyday use.

Hi René, at 1:15 you clikc the Tool number, without an axes homed and the tool goes to standby, when I do that on mine I get an error. Any idea why this would happen? Thanks.

This is a great video and so much more helpful than the e3D documentation. However, how can I check that I got the correct offsets? After I reset the printer, when I call a tool and lower it to my feeler gauge, the gui will typically show 0.00 on the z height for T0, and around -0.02 for T1 and T2. I was expecting the gui to show 0.05 once I had the correct offsets. I don't have the paper from e3D, so I was using a 0.05 mm feeler gauge from BCN3D.

Try using smaller increments. You are probably just "bowing" the x-bar up ever so slightly by 0.05mm.

@@ReneJurack Thanks for the quick reply. I actually already went down to 0.01 mm adjustments. I'm trying to do a 0.05 mm layer height with a 0.15 mm nozzle, so I have to be as precise as possible. After rebooting the TC I was expecting to be able to call a tool, move to mid, and the gui would read 0.05 when I manually moved z back down to the feeler gauge, indicating no adjustment needed. I'm adjusting z until I just start to get some snag/vibration when moving the feeler gauge. Or do I need to send G10 for each tool before picking it up? I'm going to try again by adjusting all offsets from 5.00 mm.

Is this a one time thing? Or is this process for EVERY bed lvl? Are there no thumb screws on the bottom?
@barkbarkatthemoon

it is a one time thing. at this point we are only getting the bed as level as we can and from then on, the bed level is handled automatically

Could you add a BL touch to auto level each nozzle?
@zachmeyer620

not how that works

not to any advantage. the bl touch reports when it is a given distance form the build plate. the delta from the bl touch to the nozzle is still something you would have to measure. and when you change the nozzle you would still have to measure it again. this is of course how the bl touch is used on any 3D printer. day i day out, the bl touch is used to calculate the shape of the build plate and where the "known" nozzle/head is relative to the build plate. so mounting a bl touch to each tool is of no use that I can think of.

The Z-endstop is used like a probe, so you can use every printbed, even on and off without any hassle
