I never played classic and my first experience with WoW was in Legion. I created a Paladin and it was astonoshing to me how boring the game was. I said to myself "this is the greatest MMO on the planet? How?!" At level 20 a friend of mine who asked me to play gave me a shitton of gold and gear and ran dungeons with me. Over and over and over. I didn't see anything of the game and quit at around level 45 because I was so bored. "Maybe this is a great game and I'm just not seeing it" I thought. After watching classic content I understand how WoW got its popularity - because it actually was a great game back then and I could not be more hyped to finally play classic in three months.

This is one of main problems of modern WoW: It´s levelling is extremely obsolete, boring and in your case (since you probably played before levelling rework in patch 7.3.5) also easy. There´s a reason why Blizzard includes level boost in every new expansion, because they want new and returning players to be able to jump straight into new expansion content, which is in general superior to levelling through old zones (especially between 1 and 80, afterwards you get into newer expansions which include interesting quests, pull you into the story and include voice acting, so while the gameplay is still meh, at least the stuff around it is fun).

Will never forget the awesome that was in Classic, while doing LBRS run as the first guild doing the end dungeons and eventually raids... an original Krol Blade dropped at level 54 or so. The one with 2.8 speed and a huge % damage boost because of the slow speed. Our guild passed it right into the main hand of my Combat Rogue. Sinister Strikes hit like a mack-fckng-truck. The +5% bonus swing chance talent and +2% swing chance trinket (Hand of Justice) and a wharehouse filled with Thistle Tea. Carried me atop the dps charts all the way into Blackwing. (Brutality was weak and VisKang made only a tiny difference). Started MMOs in UO and never have I had a better item that went through more gameplay in any game in some 20+ years. Ahhhhh nostalgia.

It's been a while since I was actually hyped for a game to come out and 'prepare' some food and drinks in order to play basically all day and night. The last games I did that on were bfa and the division 1 I think. Division 1 was a total let down because we did everything in like 2-3 days, it pretty much was a dead game with no content left from that point. BfA felt bad because we got max level instantly and so much stuff was basically gated. I feel like classic is finally gonna be that game where pulling an all nighter is fun again.

i do like the marked area , so you wont roam 1H per quest in a non interactive zone. no building or whatever works interactive so exploring gets quiet booring. the occasional treasure chest is funny but thats like all there is. some kind off direction is prevered.

I still remember just wanting to get a long cloak when I first started playing WoW. Like that was an actual thing to me. A fucking cloak. All of the lower level ones were short and I thought the full ones looked so cool.

The chest reminds me of how I used to farm certain dungeons on my rogue solo in classic for things. Got some really impressive things from doing that in classic and BC. The one that sticks out to me the most of was farming dark iron ore in brd. Its how I got my first mount in classic. You literally sneak in, farm ore, mass pick pocket, get items to sell on the ah, get potions, get plans ect. It was a pretty awesome frankly, you could make gold in a way no other class could and you could something that no other class could. It really made the rogue fantasy feel alive. You didn't just have to do BRD either but it sticks out in my mind as a place I spent lots and lots of time. I know it sound kind of dumb but dam if I didn't think it was the coolest fucking thing and when you got bored there was always some world pvp you could engage in outside BRD. Odd tangent about some random chest in the vanilla WoW starting area but what can I say, not a lot of games that over a decade later bring up clear memories of doing things lol. I guess thats why they claim its all nostalgia, frankly I think its bullshit, nostalgia implies the memory was good start with. I played retail wow two weeks ago and the only bit I remember is being glad I was finally done with allied race rep grinding for a bit. I still remember shit years later from classic, but I couldn't tell you what I did in Legion other than doing world quests, some vague bit about battlegrounds and demonhunters.

In that spider cave, the day of release, I got blacklisted because I pulled too many mobs and killed too many people :P It was lag, but people were seriously pissed off. This blacklist didn't allow me to raid in MC because the guy I pissed off was the leader of the only guild that was doing MC (and spoke English) :D.

I don't know, BC might have been the first nail. Once BC was announced, doing stuff in Vanilla to better your character (trying to get item upgrades) was pointless. How many people actually thought that putting more effort into getting gear is pointless if it's going to be replaced by BC greens soon? We still did ZG and MC twink runs when we where already raiding AQ and Naxx but everything more or less stopped once BC was announced. This also killed quite a few guilds and many people actually stopped playing, waiting for the expansion (some quitting completely). Ever since they announced WoW Classic, I was thinking about how it could develop after Naxx. The chance of completely different expansions came to mind right away but expansions might not be the right way. Something that doesn't make old content pointless would be much better.

I was trying WoD right before the launch of Legion when they were giving away a week of wow. I've started a new blood elf hunter. I was shocked how pointless the combat was, the mobs were falling like flies. So I was trying to at least finish Ghostlands, hoping for it getting better. But then I managed to clear the five-man elite quest down there in the Death Scar on my own and I said Fuck it! and quit.

Hard to compare in my opinion.. It's like 2 different games. Classic is all about the slow pace, the leveling and stuff while bfa just starts at 110 to 120. The zones, the story, the graphics and the Gameplay is really good but it is so fast paced. You can easily get from fresh 120 to ilvl 400+ in a week. The bod raid is really good but it won't matter in a month when 8.2 comes out, just like uldir. I have 1 option getting upgrades.. Titanforging. It's not about skill or grind like it should be. It's rng! Since I wasnt selected for classic beta the only thing I can do until new patch is Pvp. To be fair pvp is a lot of fun. I can tryhard in 3s and have a good time with friends in 2s and 10s. I learned a lot new things through pvp and it became a real challenge to get a better rating. I am sure that 8.2 will be really good and I am looking forward to it but I am certain that we will have the same problem we have now in 3 months until next content patch. Tbh I don't think wow can keep his subscribers if they don't manage to fix this problem.

Problemm with Bfa is that thay had to shrink stats, so you dont have 4m hitpoints. That means, early and mid game you canot have this "progress" feel when journey after 60 to max level is so freaking long

As like a lvl 6 druid in classic, I could pull 2-3 mobs and kill them all. I think I had decent gear at the time I could do this, but what I would do is I would keep Thorns up and also keep moonfire consistently and then just melee and heal myself. It was a lot more satisfying and rewarding if you did something risky and succeeded.

If you like Bfa you are either a younger player (so young that you never played vanilla and only know modern wow) or an older player (someone with little time to play and that has too many obligations). That is the BFA community. For these older people maybe it makes sense that they play the game with all its QOL changes, but I feel bad for all the younger players that have no idea how good classic is and that refuse to give it a chance.

It hurts to think how good of a game BFA would be if Blizzard would have just continued with the classic game play and story style the entire time and the talents trees. These modern talents just suck. I liked it that I could mix match, resto with enhancement even tho it wasnt the most efficent style to play but it was my style to play and it worked for me. It made the game fun for me. I could do dmg but I could also be backup healer etc. So much fun it was.

Yeah. You make so much gold, and have nothing to spend it on nowdays. Back in Classic, spending 100 gold on a single mount was a HUGE INVESTMENT ... today, my character collects mounts and has thousands of gold in her pocket.

Fair enough, but still the start is the most important part. If a game doesnt captivate you at the start you wont go through 120 level just to get to the meat of things

As a high level raider myself, the only thing BFA has over Vanilla is the raid fights themselves. BFA has superior boss mechanics by far, but lacks every single thing that made WoW a good MMORPG. All the other endgame in BFA is an endless grind that never ends, and rewards you with basically nothing, unless you're lucky. There's no end to it.

The only thing I'd change about Classic is I'd give the armor professions (tailoring, leatherworking, blacksmithing) a boost. They dont feel scaled properly to the world drops or Dungeon drops. In my mind if I'm hand crafting an item it should far exceed world drops bc it's made by a professional. It'd give professions even more feeling of in game progression and immersiveness.

dumb comparrison, for bfa starting zones of vanilla is irrelevant content, you have to start from 110 and doing legion\bfa vs lvl 1 and starting zones on classic. You can't expect them to maintain relevance of lvl 1 zones in a game with 120 lvl cap, if they did kept the initial pacing of those zone intact since they were relevant, then it would've taken you 6+ months to get to 120.

Darnell doesn't do what you say. He really doesn't. He assists you twice. Once for the fluids, another to collect Scarlet bodies, since he is much larger than you. He then pursues a career as a Death Guard, (which is a much more esteemed title than you), and says he hopes to see you again soon. That's it. It isn't good game design but don't do my boy like this man

BfA leveling got nerfed in 8.1.5 because it took too long and was too hard in 8.0, so Asmons completely out of date when he mentions it in this video...bfa is even easier then before

Difficulty of levelling wasn´t nerfed, though, only the time and it was right decision. Levelling isn´t really fun anymore for people who did it many times in the past and none of it is important. Making it artificially longer or harder achieves nothing. It needs to be reworked to be meaningful and fun again, and then it can be made more difficult.
