I was struggling with a quest on my priest, if i tagged more than 1 mob i am screwed, a warrior 2 levels up saw this and said you want help a bit and invited me. We finished it and he said want to help for a quest? I said ofc, so helped him and then same group went WC and we ended up in a group for 3hrs, just from a simple chat. This is what i love about Classic.

I remember when i started, there was a time where a horde Orc was questing near me and we actually helped each other. Shared tagging didn't exist and so we would switch between who got the first hit and help each other. Even being opposite factions, it was soo cool to team up. I just can't wait to have experiences of teaming up with people and having fun with this.

When I first started, I leveled my mage while grouped with a random rogue from level 10 to level 30. I found out how to take on groups of mobs with pre-cc'ing and focusing down one target. Needless to say, there was no way I was going to solo these packs. That sense of accomplishment with the community aspect was one of the greatest gaming/WoW experiences I ever had.

the point of being an absolute superhero in bfa was one of the big points that annoyed me so much. I remember a new part of the war campaign coming out and the last quest of that part had some big enemy that did like a big aoe circle on me and I was curious how much dmg his strongest ability would do. It did like 5-10% of my hp max. I'm pretty sure you could kill almost any mob in bfa with just 1-2 abilities on your bar. so ridiculous..

Yeah damage done to you is kinda a problem... if you did not play in the beginning of bfa where being dps without any sort of heal sucked dick, because you dealt 0 damage to those huuge enemy health pools, while they were slowly but surely bleeding you to death. Now it's fine because i expect that i will be able to kill a fking wolf in 2 hits as a champion not superhero. You were just an emissary or a speaker on an epic journey and that was fine for the most part. Biggest problem i have in bfa is "Magni and his Azeroth cryes oot tay me". Its boooring.

Retail babies refuse to understand that environment plays a big part on how the members of a community will interact with eachother . New yorkers have a bad rep for being rude and antisocial but that's not because they are somehow a different race of humans, it's because big cities promote this kind of behavior in which no one knows their neighbors, you'll rarely meet again people that you see in the subway or a bus, everyone becomes a faceless ghost and interaction becomes a nuisance. Small, secluded towns have the opposite dynamic.

"what so are games bad now but they were "good" 15 years ago?" "lol it's literally only streamers, you'll see" "people are too entitled these days, will never work out" It's less that doubting annoys me, more that so many people seem to be intentionally playing stupid so, on the case that it does fail, they can shout to the rooftops about how incredibly right they were. "Nobody could ever enjoy classic, kids these days are too entitled." It's not like, you know, the most popular kids game around currently is so incredibly punishing that if you die it removes the last 20-30 minutes of progress and forces you to compete with 99 other players... nah, classic could never produce similar psychological effects now as it once did, because humanity has changed so much since 15 years ago. It's silly, I very much doubt retail will die, but so many seem to be reluctant to apply any critical thought to the idea that their default reaction is to just say it's shit and everyone who disagrees is a shill or something.

Leveling in vanilla is like an adventure movie. You leave the Shire and eventually group up with some Aragorn guy. You do some quests with him and you go to the next zone. There you group up with Legolas, Gandalf, Gimli, etc. and the zone sends you into a dungeon. You do a full run, kill the Balrog, Gandalf logs out. Then Boromir logs out as well and the group disbands. So you log out as well. Next time you log in you have a quest sending you into Mordor and Sam whispers you to group up cause he has that same quest. A bunch of levels later you bump into Gandalf again who now has badass gear and he's in a guild with Aragorn and Legolas and they invite you to join them.

Vanilla WoW was one of my favorite social experiments ever. The drastically diferent personality types from different backgrounds who became friends in real life was amazing to me. My old guild had to guys who ran everything together. One was the CEO of a private teaching hospital outside Chicago the other was a third generation biker who was born into the Meth trade. Never should have met, should have hated each other. They are still friends to this day.

The difference between classic and retail is: in classic you design your own achievements and goals with your friends. In retail everything is layed out. You follow accordingly, and when you're done you feel miserable because you have learned or gained nothing. You know what spamming for healers in a city gets you? Talking to people. Having to engage. Instead of rolling into a raid, with people you don't know, and don't need to talk to.

Blizzard should've made Classic the next expansion, everyone just completes the final boss and are then thrown into an alternative dimension back in time into classic as a naked level 1, and then have new expansions because in this alternative reality things turn out differently.

They'd have to let you keep your mounts and transmog library though I guess.

I think the whole point was that it was a closed system. You'd generally know all the main players on the servers, their names and the best guilds. Servers felt like worlds- it was what you made of it.

I must admit I came back into Wow retail after 10 years not playing and was quite surprised that you can not only transfer your character over to another server free of charge, but change their race and name too. I have mixed feelings about this.

I remember I used to make a good amount of money on the auction house making and buying the rods you needed for enchanting. Specifically the truesilver and gold ones. Everyday I would buyout any of them priced lower than mine and remarket them at the same price as mine, to the steeper price and corner the market. Would further make money by charging a crafting fee that was slightly lower than the price on the rod, which people would jump on to "get a better deal". One of my favorite memories is having a guy whisper me that I was a "price gouging fuck" because I overbid on a non buyout auction to make my own prices look better. Good times

Levelling in Classic, once you know your class, is a mix of exciting and relaxing. Lots to do. Crafting and gathering is meaningful, dungeons and their loot are meaningful. Groups and socials are meaningful. Exploration feels like exploration and wandering into the wrong zone. Seeing a level 50 in the distance when you're a level 35 but knowing how much that Mithril ore would fetch and you've just levelled your Miner enough to extract it... You know it's going to be 240+ hours so you settle for that. Your mindset is play the levelling because levelling is a big and real and important part of the game. I guess some will be 60 before the end of September. For the main bulk of players we won't see the big wave of 60's appear until well into the Holiday season - 3 or 4 months after launch. I remember the EU launch of WoW in 2005 and seeing my first 60 about 5 or 6 weeks later and thinking "That's quick" as my main was only on about 45 at the time and I'd put in maybe 100+ hours at the time It was a solid 3 or 4 months before you saw a lot of 60's and 6 -8 months before most players who had been there from the get go had at least one level 60. I levelled a hunter then went straight back and levelled a priest, then a mage to 60 in the first year

Anything that doesn't breed desire, is just pointless. I think asmongold said it the best when he said he didn't like raiding anymore because whenever he killed a boss he felt "thank god, now I don't have to do that again" A big reason why raids are fun is because of the people you play with, not the actual content itself. And there's no point in creating friendships or even joining a guild in retail. If you can just pug every raid, and do all of the "group content" such as bg's etc, and you don't ever get to know or talk to anyone, then what's the point of the game being an mmo? That's why the game being an mmo is irrelevant, because nothing in the game incentiveces you to group with people, other when you are forced to do it in order to complete content.

As somebody who only started playing seriously the last week of tomb of sargeras, the moment that everything clicked for me wasn't hogger or anything like that, it was stuff like having a really hard time with the level 25 orcs in redridge, seeing the dude next to me also having a hard time with them, joining together, cutting through countless orcs together, and becoming friends afterwards. Or another time where because a hunter quested with me for an entire zone, I mailed him every meat that dropped for me for two weeks for his pet. Also the fact that the game actually FELT like an rpg. Retail WoW purely and simply is not an RPG. it's an ARPG in the vein of games like diablo with vestigial RPG organs that dont make sense with it's current design anymore. I'll miss class design, and I'll miss raid design, but I'll 0% miss the loot design or quest/profession/general game designs of retail when classic comes out, and I'll be really interested to see how it goes

The social contract thing is big. Earlier today I was leveling an alt in BFA and saw a guy trying to fight a 3+ quest mob, he was at 5% health and about to die. I healed him up, helped him kill it; saved his bacon. He doesn't say a word. In Classic, doing this sort of thing years ago got you a "Thanks man!". Shit I remember trying to help a higher level guy fight a mob that was several levels higher than me, we got it, so he hands me some greens he has for my class as thanks. Modern WoW has made players indifference to the kindness of strangers.

Sadly true story - I left during Wrath, came back during Legion briefly... and in the time it took me to level two fresh characters all the way up, the most memorable social interaction I had was when someone was trying to vendor trash in Orgrimmar, and accidentally dragged some fish scales onto me instead, opening up trade. They closed the trade window, and I jokingly said, "HEY, I WANTED THOSE FISH SCALES". They lol'd at me and gave me the fish scales. That's it. That's the most natural, memorable social interaction I had. And I had tanked and healed every single dungeon up to Legion content.

And the quest for green fire was a nightmare to do.. jeez it took a long time and those who couldnt utilize the different lock skills(that some never used coz they only used 4 skills and thought they where good with lock) didnt get it. Coz u couldnt just spam shit and make it, u went all the way back and had to try over again in some parts of the questline. But omg what a great feeling it was when i got it. Its way to easy to do now in bfa, get a book to drop and ur allmost done, takes away the glory for those who did it the "right" way. And sadly green fire quest for lock aint the only thing that they did this too..

As a nelf rogue I solo'd a shitton of content in vanilla and TBC. It was still *much more fun* than any soloing I've done since (at least) WoTLK. I spent a lot of time playing and enjoyed all that time. For me, I was never into the mentality of "GOGOGO!!" race to endgame content. I was able to play the way I wanted to. Solo'ing WoW does not necessarily mean casual/easymode - Until Blizz FORCED it on everyone. Looking forward to Classic so I can enjoy the game again.

Would be interesting if they release servers for "WOW TBC" and "WOW Legion" as stand alone servers, like they have with Classic. So leave Classic as its own server and just release other servers for those other points in time

I know it's been a year, but I just came back for classic and the part where they were discussing helping someone with a quest and meeting again happened to me. Met this druid while doing a quest, teamed up for it. Finished and we parted. Ran into him the very next day, did something on different quests and before leaving traded items with each other that we both needed.

As a ff14 player, This "your own story" think really makes me want to try vanilla wow. FF14 holds your hand the entire time and shoves millions of textboxes (yes actual millions) down your throat by the time youre levelcapped. I cared at the start, but really it becomes redundant to follow some woven plastic story, and creating my own at my own pace sounds very appealing.

I have really enjoyed all of this it feels like it has the momentum to become a full on renaissance push for all of Blizzard. But I never considered Mr.Preach,s outcome that they give people their special frozen in time 15yo world and then go on to keep making wrong game design decisions like cutting fun things out of WoW and focusing on mobile instead of staying loyal to what the PC people who supported and funded them want. I have hope for BFA because atleast a little of the Epic world and game design of Classic should be implemented and I cant see BFA going any more wrong.

No, not with lvl 30..the final mob is a wind elemental lvl 40+ elite (level ?? at that time)

@@neehime6 oha lvl 50...WW axe will be replaced at 45 ... you can solo the quest with lvl 37-40 depending on gear / skill

My dream classic, is classic mechanics and core gameplay, with the new animations/graphics. I want that so bad, maybe if they could make that an option. Even with just graphics and no new animations I’d be happy with that.

There's a funny thing people might have not realized, knowing each other helping each other is a need in mmo yes, but even more in real life. Why mmo in the first place, why heroic fantasy? Because we don't have adventure anymore, no more "magic" no more discovery, that's why people did yearn so much for video games in the first place, it all came from the lack of excitement in their lives. Question is, what people are lacking today. I let you guess.

what if they kept trashing retail BUT began building anew on classic base game? (just like if nothing happenned) id be ok with that.. a month ago i played on a private classic server for a single weekend and have more good memories and WoW stories to tell people than i have accumulated since Wotlk... they can just redo the whole fucking retail game classic style with few adjustments
