I main blm for 3 years and I loved the class. Have to admit it gave me so much anxiety though lol. got through most of shadowbringers savage content up till 12s then took a break from ff14 for a bit. Never thought when I started playing this class, that I'd be clearing that type of content on BLM lol. What made me have more appreciation for the class is, well its difficult to master in higher level content everyone knows that, but when you do it pays off well :p and also not to treat the game like its a 9 to 5. I take long breaks. in a span of 3 years I've taken a total of three, 6 month long breaks from the game. Even now, I haven't touched Endwalker content yet, and probably don't plan to do so until the summer. I've played one other mmo before ff14 and that game made me realize the one thing that's cause games like these to go stale (and as a result have less and less fun), is feeling like you're obligated to log on everyday, even on days where you don't want to log on but know u have to because of some weekly grind/cap. Dedication to game that you love is fine, but dont let it get in the way of what the game was made for, which is to just have fun. This wasn't aimed at you Teejay, it's just my experience with mmos in general. It's easy to get burnt out progging/grinding ultimate/savage content, but the long breaks I take from the game makes me realize that sometimes, the basics are what matters the most. your enjoyment :)

Funny enough, we actually give BLM a melee spot in my raid team so that he doesnthave to move most of the time. And our physical range dps moves for our BLM when he has to be somewhere, so that he pops instant cast and dashes on him. Then this physical range can go where he is supposed to be. Have fun with that

I started doing the same as mch for our black mage in shiva savage. only failed twice but it was funny seeing how she became wary for some time after i got her killed. But pull by pull teleporting got faster and the casts didn't get cancelled and i earned her trust back in like 5 pulls or so. All this extra work when summoner at that time would have been higher dps even without outside assistance haha.

Seeing a black mage is going to result in one of two things in like 90% of the dungeon runs. The middle ground on that job is so non existent in terms of player skill lol. Either the run is going to be slow because they're not well versed in either the job or the fights, and it's slow. Or that Black Mage is going to rip that dungeon into like 300 pieces before you remember to put tank stance on. A good BLM in a dungeon is *hilarious* at how much burst they can put out on trash mobs with Triplecast and Flare usage.

In my experience, the fun in BLM mob aoe is actually in the aoe lightning dot procs. Every lightning proc applies all the damage from the duration of the dot and refreshes the lightning dot. And then, you blast flares and fouls as much as you can to melt all into goo.

4:50 If this was still Shadowbringer it'd be easily the healers who have the most control. But ever since the stat squish, the damage we take is meaningful again at lower levels. Unfortunately, I hate to let you know, not that you'll see this, but healers still have most of the control over the fight. A bad healer will end any run, no matter how easy it is.

Can confirm. Went through Ala Mhigo with a Scholar who claimed to be drunk and not all there. We wiped. Dozens of times. And barely clinched a victory in the last 5 minutes of the dungeon. I was tanking as a DRK that time, and...well...needless to say. I got one hell of a crash course in using Living Dead (which I hadn't used much up to that point)

@@jonathanberry8656 By the time I had moved on from FFXI after SE ruined it trying to chase WoW subscription numbers by trying to make it so easy little kids could play it like WoW, I had mastered 19 of the 22 jobs. The last 3 I hadn't mastered were Corsair, Rune Fencer and Puppetmaster. Before I left, Puppetmaster was still a bit buggy, so I think I only got it to like level 40. I never played it after the job was fixed.

If I may make a suggestion about FF14 in particular. With this game I would at least try giving 1 tank, 1 healer, and 1 DPS class a try since the jobs are so well balanced. I think you'll actually find DPS'ing or healing actually very rewarding with FF14. Enjoy!

healing is fun but can be stressful. I popped into a random dungeon yesterday at level 49 (so I didn't have that free ilvl 90 set yet), it was aurum vale which I hadn't done before (I did mention this). man that was a scary run, we had 1 wipe on the first boss because my heals couldn't keep up, but we finished after that. but yeah they was the first time I actually had to try and used every one of my cooldowns, I hadn't used them even once before that. my first character back in 2014 was a tank and I remember that also required a lot more effort than tanking in stuff like wow, if I missed even one ability the mobs would go after healers or DPS, although I think that was before the tank stance change. I still haven't played dps in FFXIV yet, I really like the instant queues, and the instanced group content is my favorite part anyway.

It's that but also doing so with the way mechanics work in things like Savage is death, for you and/or everyone. It was funny seeing Pyro rant about how good Aetherial Manipulation is because he's thinking in terms of WoW and easy content. Completely oblivious to the fact that Savage mechanics tend to make stacking death, or you cannot use it belated to outrace mechanics, etc. Mechanics are often just scripted in a way where teleporting to another player will not do the mechanic properly.

I stared at WoW DPS meters too. I always had both DPS + HPS meters active at all times to make sure I was the top healer, and if I wasn’t, I’d be disappointed in myself. I wouldn’t question DPS in chat, but on the inside I’d be annoyed that they were bringing us down. FFXIV has changed my mindset. Though there are DPS checks, it’s easy to pass them. The focus on mechanics over DPS/HPS has been developed really well. Instead of focusing on how much healing I’m doing, I focus on keeping people alive. Having infinite rezzes is something I didn’t know I needed, too. The first thing I did when I returned to WoW though was download all the “required” addons… By habit, I downloaded Details.

The Enochian bit is really weird. It seems like that part was written when Shadowbringers was current, and Enochian was an actual ability to use, but I just noticed that in the part where he explains it, he shows a cast of Fire 1 being used to refresh Enochian, which is how it works now. Wouldn’t have to if you just moved. Healers shouldn’t have to adjust for one dps class that brings no utility and doesn’t do that much more damage than those that do, and often gets outperformed by others. You don’t get to demand other people heal you for refusing to do mechanics. At least Reapers can provide healing when they get assblasted. Now, I’m not telling you not to play what you want or that your class isn’t as good as x other class, I’m just saying don’t demand others to adjust for your one class that you chose to play solely because you were too stubborn to move. If you refuse to do mechanics, don’t be surprised if people either force you to or won’t heal you for your greed. Tl;dr Just do the damn mechanics, your damage comes second to being alive.

Black Mage was my first class when i started out in 2017, personally i feel the job becomes genuinely fun at level 60 when you unlock Fire 4 and your dps leaps forward, very satisfying, then it only gets better every 10 levels, while keeping the rotation pretty simple, if you think the Black Mage rotation is hard (does anyone ?) then try Monk, that class actually makes me lose my mind while raiding.

its not that bad till you try to do endgame raiding. if you do something wrong you may end up doing less dps than a tank. but if you play it perfectly no one can get near your dps thats the point of the whole video. the rotation on early levels its easy at the point of being extremely boring. raiding and doing it perfectly is where the fun is.

I thought Gunbreaker was dumb as a melee too, until I started to understand it better. I think of it now kind of like a charge blade in Monster Hunter games. The gun part of your weapon is more about making an aether infused explosive charge to augment your weapon attacks and not really for shooting bullets.

Level 80 and 90 black mage. Its easy but difficult to master. Black mage endochain (gauge) is a raging river. Staying in control is 80% of the struggle. If it breaks, to the end of the parse line with you!

It's not hard. People complain about how brain dead it is all of the time. It's only difficult if you for some stupid reason try to treat the rotation like it's a music sheet, instead of learning what to do under conditions. What are you doing in Astral Fire? Burn all of the MP for damage. What are you doing in Umbral Ice? Restore MP and getting out of it as soon as possible. Does any of that change? No.

@@dangerwarg9682 BLM difficulty at high level play seems to be that deep fight knowledge is absolutely necessary to keep uptime. As a MCH I usually have no uptime problem at all except for maybe very busy movement phases during my Hypercharge. Similar with PLD uptime as you are basically a ranged job for 8 GCDs per minute.

@@randalica92 I use to argue with my friends that BLM is not hard because of the rotation or mechanics of the class. It is hard because you have to know the exact timing of every raid or extreme. Other classes can get away with just the basic knowledge of the fights, but great blm does not get that pleasure. What makes it worse is if the timing changes due to overall team damage being either too high or too low.

I'm a legacy player I used to main BLM. My friend who got me into the game is a BLM main and in order to join the guild I had to tryout through a dungeon while they were both drunk so I leveled SCH cause he knew I'm good with numbers and movement I resed both of them multiple time during the boss fight they were so impressed I got into the main raid team as a healer and I out healed the WHM a few times.

SMN gets their raise sub 30 because they start as arcanist. At level 30 arcanist changes into SCH and SMN. As a WHM main, i never use rescue on a BLM. I generally don't use rescue on any job that has its own built-in mobility, but any decent BLM knows what they're doing already, so i don't worry about them. It's also my most played caster actually. BLM lb3 is so freaking worth it all.

Imo the hardest part about playing blm is that we need to know every fight and remember all the mechs well, so that we can have better positioning all the time to keep up with the rotation and avoid taking unnecessary damage cuz it usually comes with vulnerability debuffs and no healer would be able to heal through 3/4/5 vul stacks.

I play black mage while progressing. Level 50 you have to take a week to learn your new rotation. Level 60 you have to take a week to learn your new rotation. Level 70 currently taking a week to learn my new rotation. Level 80 also has its own rotation that I will eventually learn. Finding funny places to place learn lines. Specifically where it gets cut in half by aoe's so that you stand on the left and slide right when the AOE goes off. It ends up like a rhythm game.

the "Gun" in a Gunbreaker does not fire bullets, it activates aether-shells, that cast mitigation magics on himself. So its a person with a magic stick that makes them immortal. The GNB is a mage... its a mage tank... yea, you just learned that and now you have to deal with it.

Video is old but have to say it: in Savage or Ultimate, where there are super tight DPS checks, every time you get hit by a mechanic that you should evade you get a -20% DPS debuff for 80 seconds. If you get hit again the debuff is -40% DPS. So "I will stay and healers will heal me" will maybe keep you alive but bye bye to your dps.

Going to be honest, standing in boss aoe's gives you a debuf where you take more damage the more you get, so sure it won't kill you the first or second time but it'll kill you the third time and then you're doing half damage due to death debufs

Honestly, as someone who loves BLM I'd say that by level 50 it's good between Fire III giving max Astral stacks and Blizzard III giving max Umbral stacks, navigating between the two "stances" isn't a big deal. At 60 it's solid when you get Fire IV, but that's where managing Astral stacks really becomes a concern since Fire IV doesn't refresh Astral Fire so you gotta find where to weave in that Fire I (or Fire III if you have a proc which is nice) and you have Umbral Hearts left and you wanna maximize their potential and not waste it on a Fire I... And from there it's just little bits of extras that keep making it better. Though, Umbral Soul at 76 allowing you to keep yourself prepped and ready for the next engagement between mobs or boss mechanics is great. But Sharpcast does a great job at getting you into things usually before that point.

DawnTrail Class showcase showed Blackmage being able to move their Leylines while it's up one time. So it's a new skill unlock at 90-100. Yoshi P also loves Black Mage (As well as Dragoon) so he prob was sick of also having to leave his Leylines 🤣

Gunblades: It's not an actual gun. The aether in the 'gun' powers the blade with an explosive force or something. So instead of just doing weak hits with a sword, you have added explosive power

On an unrelated topic, I know that Asmon was throwing shade at Gunbreaker again stating that it's "not his thing" but I firmly believe that after he's tried all the other tanks and then tries out Gunbreaker up until at least lvl 70 once you get continuation and then on to max level then he'll come to like it at the very least and quite possibly love it. Then again, he seems to gravitate towards the simpler jobs so really Warrior is probably the best fit for him, ESPECIALLY considering its INSANE sustainability at higher levels. Unless they change Dark Knight drastically in the next patch I personally can't recommend it for casual content (especially higher level casual content) because everything just starts hitting harder but literally every other tank has better cooldowns to handle it.

Chat is stupid, this video is not pre-enochian change. It's still a buff you need to maintain and can easily drop if you're forced to move at the wrong time. The EW changes made it easier to re-apply after dropping it, but you still have to restart your rotation and lose a lot of dps when it happens.

As a BLM main, I have four words - triple cast fire 4! Honestly, though- some encounters are horrendous for BLM (I’m talking you, 2nd boss of The Dead Ends), but really, if you can master an encounter with BLM, you’ve mastered the encounter. One of the not mentioned issues with BLM though is that, in addition to having minimal mobility, it also has no self heal ability. Sure, there’s a 15 second shield with a 2 minute cooldown, but no true self heal. Every other battle class has some way to heal itself inside the battle (RDM, SMN, PLD, and all healers have a true heal, all other tanks have some sort of self heal ability, all Physical DPS at least have 2nd wind and often another self healing ability as well), while BLM is completely dependent on the healer and possibly RDM/SMN/PLD. But why play BLM? Cuz it’s fun blowing stuff up.

3:13 good on paper, but in reality a Black Mage's party plays around them, and thus the party's damage becomes your damage. Every resource a healer spends to heal the planted Black Mage is an eventual DPS loss because they will run out of resources and eventually GCD heal. And before you say "that's not the BLM's problem", it will once they run out of resources to heal YOU :) Can't DPS when you're dead.
