Garlean gunblades (and similar weapons) are actually pretty different from the Gunbreaker weapons. Most of them are actual firearms (except for the Gunhammer) in a dual-purpose kind of way, rather than powering up blade slashes.

The Bozjan gunblades are a different, even if similar, armament as the Garlean variety... dating back to Bozja's confrontations against the Allagan empire. Good info for some folks who might be unaware of the distinction. I do wonder how many Reaper arms will be "Gunscythes" like the Endwalker trailer villain's scythe (name absent for spoiler).

For the sake of knowledge, gunblades actually existed though not in the fashion you see in final fantasy. If i remember correctly they were first made during the renaissance era, and we're known to be unwieldy and an unaccurate gimmick

The way Gunbreaker works is that the "gunshots" are used to vibrate the blade so that it "cuts" rather than hits/slashes/bludgeons. It's meant to cause hypersonic vibrations, rather than actually fire amunition.

And the reason they’re called “gunbreaker” is because the Allagans were starting to use guns as weapons so the gunblade users BREAK the ranks if the GUNners. Also, the weapons is called a gunblade in XIV because it’s shorthand for “Gunnhildr’s Blades”, from whom the weapon became known.

although if you would do that in reality the vibration would cause you to lose control of the blade and the material would get worn out pretty quickly if not start breaking right away, vibrations are generaly a big no no, if terms of longevity. But some iterations I have read, that the cartridge is just a capsule fused with magic, that when fired it supercharges the blade to then cause more damage.

@krivdik Apparently in other depictions of the weapon, the trigger is only meant to be pulled *right* before the blade hits the target, thereby ensuring that the now very dangerous blade will hit its target with the full force, bleeding that energy off into the victim to safely exit the other side. In terms of IRL use, wielders would have to be extensively trained, and the blade itself would likely have to be detached and replaced regularly or just highly maintained It should also be noted that the class doesn't use the cartridge attacks primarily, with them there as the latter half of the core rotation, pretty much telling us that GBs use the Gunblade as a sword first, relegating the gun function to only when it's necessary

its depend on matter decisions both of the tank and healer, i've many played support roles in other game (but i know it hard to compare with FFXIV),but as the one who is using healer class, im find even i need burnout all my mana just to keep the team alive, as long as they alive we are out of the dangers of wipeout, like what i do, if i got the right teammates (which is usually done by guildmates), i will just communicate on them, the decisions to use CD or not can be speaked up and thus it will be benefit both of them, like "dont use CD yet, saves for the next big attacks, by that i will Regenerating my mana" etc

They were not a lot. They were experiments. Failed experiments. They hit shit, are worse to handle than a gun or a sword, and everytime they fire they have an high probability to damage the blade. They were quickly discarded as a failed concept. Gunblades simply could not work in real life. We tried. Maybe with today's tech. But today no one needs a sword. Guns shoot way more than one bullet, and are way more precise than before. Swords are simply useless so it would not make sense.

The closest thing to real life gunblades are the Gun Axe or Axe pistol used by the polish cavalry in the 16th century, And while yes there were quite a few designs and ideas trying to make a gun swords etc most, if not all, were to inaccurate to be of any use in actual combat. If they were in use it was mostly as a novelty item you'd show of in duels.

Keep in mind that the job trailers have the characters using their moves one at a time (ie no weaving ogcds) to show off the animations. In actual gameplay, most of the combat is much faster, nevermind the movement. One example is when they were showing the Reaper in action during the live letter where both the reaper and their demon were using their attacks at the same time and let's just say if you thought ninja was a fast rotation with its mudras then HOO BOY.

Honesty starting out as NIN made playing other class's rotation seem like a cakewalk. Like when I took up SMN or Bard and I'm like what do you mean I only have to press one button to cast a spell. WIth NIN I'm used to pressing 3-4 to cast anything. You want to buff yourself that's gonna be 4 buttons, AOE ground target 4 buttons, AOE target 3 buttons etc. It was really hard to remember at first but making the ninjutsu a trigger button my mouse made it a lot easier

What it needs now is remove positionals and make positionals give different effects instead like how doing the correct positionals on Samurai give more Kenki. I say because MNK positional combos are dumb since you can get the same amount of output and DPS with Samurai and Ninja without needing to completely do the positionals while Monk needs to be in said positions, or use Riddle of Earth or True North, to get the same amount of output and DPS. It's frustrating and annoying to be honest.

I don't really care about flashy moves (mained WHM before I switched to SCH for my static), SCH is just highly effective (duh, lore-wise we are military tactician so it's understandable). People laugh at the zoom part during trailer, but in an end-game raid/boss fight, having in-combat Ptelodon is superb for repositioning. Also, having an arsenal of oGCD makes me feel confident, because I know I have tools to salvage when (my team or me) fcked up

Endwalker has a lot of references to FF4 (e.g going to the moon, sage was a significant job, they added FF4 minions, the lunar whale, etc.) One thing I appreciate is that Summoner's rework makes it more like FF4 Summoner (which was also a prominent job), where summoning was essentially like casting spells.

It's more like FF3 Summoner since Rydia could also cast Black Magic, while this Summoner can't, it has summon-derived spells and arcanima. Likely there will also be a lot of FF3 references with IIIrd Legion Legatus Nerva yae Galvus having been heavily foreshadowed. They're probably going to have him follow a similar story to Prince Alus from FF3's Saronia plotline since they mentioned he and the IIIrd Legion had disappeared entirely, kinda like how Alus disappears after Gigameth poisons the mind of King Gorn and Saronia falls into a civil war.

@@real_ez8412 Plus once you got the trait at level 74 or whatever it was the only time Blood of the Dragon would ever go down is if you died or a boss mechanic disables you long enough for it to run out on its own. As an ability with a 30 second duration, a 25 second cooldown and 20 seconds of refresh in the single target or aoe combo's it was practically mindless keeping it going.

So to anyone here who isn't aware, the Gunblade isn't actually a Gun+Sword. The Gunblade is a Sword, first and foremost. It has a bullet chamber that's loaded with cartridges charged with Aether. When a cartridge is spent, it causes the blade to vibrate and release the Aether from the cartridge. The vibrations cause extra damage as you slice and the released Aether causes an explosion as you slice, resulting in massive damage. This is similar to how they worked in FF8, where the "gun" portion was just there to make the Sword vibrate and increase the damage. As for why Gunbreaker is a tank, their whole thing is protecting those who can't protect themselves. They can cast spells that protect themselves and allies from damage. They're as close as a Tank can get to the DPS role, though. And this shows through gameplay -- They're the frailest of the 4 tanks but have some of the highest damage output. They're not here to valiantly shield the party, they're here to kill the threat before it can do any damage. But can also valiantly shield the party should the need arrise.

There's nothing remotely frail about gnb even compared to the other 3 tanks. They are well balanced defensively by having straight up more percent mit. I think people just think it's squishy because nascent and tbn are just so good (in a vacuum).

Gonna need to correct you there Gunbreakers aren't casting spells. When Gunbreakers fire their bullets at anything other than the blade itself, the cartridges disperses into an aetherial dust that coalesces into a barrier

If mccool tries it, I really hope he tries it low key on his own, off stream or something. We’ve seen it with everyone jumping in these days. “Play this way, do this, play this quest, do this raid” it makes it less fun as well as the stream snipers. If one’s ready for it like asmon and preach, that’s one thing, but i feel McConnell would fall into a Quin69 mentality since he ALREADY doesn’t like the game and is really closed about it being for weebs and there being no Ret Paladin. If he did it on his own he’d maybe give it a fairer shot, but at this point I feel like he would do the same thing Quin would since he just seems totally not ready to give it a shot Also if he plays paladin, he’d be gladiator which starts in Uldah and it seems to be the “cool thing” to hate on lalafells so being introduced to them at the start wouldn’t do well for his chances of liking things either

Hearing Asmon say that he just doesn't think he'll play a healer is really funny to me because healing in FFXIV is just DPS with extra responsibility- exactly the same as a tank, except that healers fix the damage they don't stop.

Yeah, for me healers are less engaging because their dps options, while being as important as every other job, are less in depth as the dps and tanks. I only have sch and whm, to be fair, I bet ast is very busy with its buffs, but I can only press glare so much before I wish I was a SMN again. Hyped for sage though, it looks very in depth with its healing.

Don't know if you'll see this but the bullets in the gun blade are for buffs and to strengthen and add effects to the blade itself. it isnt exactly a gun and a sword but more like sticking live grenades along a sword

@@FluffieXStarshine theyre cutting bahamut n phoenix to 15s instead of 20s. From what I can see, the 3 primals titan ifrit and garuda are now our 'filler phases'. Current smn rotation: dreadwyrm trance -> bahamut phase -> filler phase #1 -> firebird -> filler phase #2 -> repeat New smn rotation: Bahamut -> 3 primals -> firebird-> 3 primals -> repeat Definitely simplified, some won't like that I guess. I think the rework looks great! 👌

From what I understand about Gunblades in FF, they don't shoot anything, the cartage they detonate adds extra force to the swing of the sword. And the name Gunbreaker comes from them breaking down guns to make them into the gunblades.

Yeah, Bozjan gunblades fire cartridges from their blades for extra effect, be it a barrier or an explosion. Garlean gunblades on the other hand are true hybrid of firearm and melee weapon and come in many variants, from the gunblade to the gunhalberd

Don't know if you read comments, but Dragoon has always been jumpy since it became a class in Final Fantasy 3 (officially), like Japan FF3, and then again in FF4 (FF2 in America) as Kain (which kinda is the level 50 and 60 armor of Dragoon, as well as level 80 base take elements of his design, not all at once, but pieces are similar), basically any FF lance character has been jumpy for extra stabby stab. And Dragoon is that way because they need to stab a creature that can fly, hence why jump/high jump is an actual thing in the games they appear in as stabbiness. Games I *know that have lance users that fit the mold of Dragoon*: FFII, FFIII, FFIV, FFV, FFVII, FFIX, FFXI, FFXIV. So 8/15 current games features Dragoons. And I'm talking the first game in a series. I looked at the Wiki and basically all Tactics games featured them as well. So.... they're a pretty big staple of the series, nearly as prominent as Warrior (class in FFI), Paladin (Job version of Warrior), Ninja(appeared in FFI as job version of Thief), Monk (class), White Mage/Black Mage and Red Mage all as classes, upgrading to Wizard versions of their class, that's how ingrained they are in the series, Dark Knight is actually from FFIV as the class of the main character who you can change the name of unless you're playing the 3D version, then you can't. Summoner originated from there to my understanding as well, Dancer from FFV and FFVI, before reappearing much later. It's just kinda how certain jobs/classes started. It's nutty how they all turned into jobs that do specific things. Sage, this version is quite unorthodox tbh, they're typically casters of advanced spells and the equivalent of Black Wizard in most versions, less of the FFXIV interpretation of them. So specific things changed, others stayed the same, and some jobs originated in FFI and some came from FFIII and others from FFV or FFVIII (in the case of Gunbreaker).

19:43 Ya nailed it Asmon! This is the summary of my main class! Summoner is a big deal because Yoshi-P has been trying to rework this class since restarting the entire game. He got close with adding a summon for Demi-Bahamut in Stormblood, getting rid of the pet HP bars and adding Demi-Phoenix as a summon in Shadowbringers and now with Endwalker, we can summon the main 3 primals that we fought in base game for a burst of energy and use their elemental powers. He nailed it for sure this time. Now if we can have those summons for Ramuh, Leviathan, and Shiva for more variety then we can cover all elements!

Idk as a SMN main myself I'm still not sure about the changes until we get to play it live. They are cutting the time in half for our two big summons (20 sec > 10 sec) and our regular, at will summons are becoming cooldowns. while visually it looks shiny, the read out of what the changes are seems like a little bit of a nerf. What I'd like, where it seems we have Carby as default now, is all the colours we see Alphy using to be avalible for egi glamor now. I"d like that pretty white one myself. Or to pull out the black on the match my glam, that would be cool.

Blm is one of the highest skill ceiling jobs in the game since it's damage is fucking insane, but the job is less about "know where to stand" and more about "know how to set yourself up so you can move when you need to." Blm's default mode is being a turret that doesn't move and you'll be doing that the majority of the time, but it does have a small variety of skills that allow it to still deal good damage while moving around. It just requires foresight and planning to make sure you have the right abilities ready and procs primed so you can move around when you need to, which is where Blm shines.

As an XI vet, The SMN in FFXI is still better, you don't just summon ifrit etc for a couple of attacks, you can summon any of them and they stay by your side till YOU decide otherwise. That being said, SMN is for sure heading in the right direction, to this day i freaking HATE the "Egi" idea, so small, looks like a fly, so i LOVE the new changes, but still it's not near as cool as FF11 SMN, sry to say.

Gunblades do not have a barrel, the premise of a gunblade is that the vibration from the trigger pull at the time of a strike causes a deeper bigger cut. So they have bullets but they don’t fire.

Gunblades don't actually shoot bullets. The cartridges get fired and send shockwaves through the blade to cause it to vibrate intensely which causes massive gnashing wounds. The shells also let out a small localized explosion when they go off.

Gunbreaker's gunblades shoot out a magic powder which the user can use to make special things happen. Be it barriers, lightning, or most commonly explode. Not to be confused with the Garleans' gunblades which are swords with actual guns welded onto them, like Gaius's.

Scholars are effectively your cheerleader, coach and closest thing to being an actual doctor. They break fights. White mages are tree huggers, aka forest rangers. They always have powerful healing magic. Astrologian are fortunetellers and astronomers. They're the fastest casting healer and make everyone stronger. Donno what Sage's shtick is though. For all we know, they're advisers giving you sage advice.
