I think the undead should stick with the races wich actually lived in the north of Eastern Kingdoms, so undead trols and elves would make sense Of course they should look like actual undeads with missing flesh and all that stuff, because if not they would be just like Death Knight, who are actually undead
@HankJ6667 жыл бұрын
+SennT While it would make sense since... Well, everything dies, the forsaken are actually citizens of Lordaeron, wich have been death since the events of WC3, including the ones wich appear in Cataclysm, wich are NEW forsaken, back in BC there was not a Valkyr resurrecting us But if anything I think it would make sense for forsaken to resurrect other races wich were killed during the third war, so undead elfs and probably trols, wich are the races that lived in the north of the Eastern kingdoms As Lilian boss, who had memories from when she was alive (and other undeads remember how they died), if you resurrected a Dwarf from ironforge, he would be like "Who are ye horde monster?!" And basically go back to ironforge where he would probably be regected tho and he could try talking with Anduin It would be kinda the same as Death Knights, they dont serve Ner'Zhul willingly and the moment they have the chance they rejoin their factions Even undeads have their own will basically If you resurrect an elf killed during WC3 tho, and tell him about everything that happened with Arthas, Sylvanas, etc, he will probably join the forsaken, Sylvanas had her... Kinda meh reputation because she liked to bang human males (like all of her sisters wtf?) but was still the leader of the rangers and died trying to defend Silvermoon to the last breath, so any Zombie elf wich knew about her will most likely follow her Other races, specially on the horde, also wont like Sylvanas playing with their dead ones, Tauren have a great connection with nature, blood elfs as seen in SoO and orcs for who dying in combat is the greatest honor

There's always been a longing to meet the Pandaren. They're so appealing in that they're from an island steeped in it's own special history, surrounded by mystical waters and exotic mists. That is some of their own lucky lore and it's wholly significant. As a player and experiencer of blizzard's stories, it was refreshing - a refreshing break from all the constant epic frenzy we so often get to/have to deal with. Adventuring on a very special hidden land, uncovering it's mysteries and seeing the links between it and our known world, interacting with or avoiding extraordinary races and peculiar creatures who also call this land home all helped provide the experience and feeling of true exploration. Because I was so fortunate to play a part in Mists of Pandaria, I feel enriched by it's pure waters, enheartened by harmonious bear-folk, and enlightened by the travels of an ancient turtle. I actually felt a breath of fresh air and welcomed Pandaria's native whimsy and curious remarkableness. I felt deep emotion during that expansion, wanting to assist the inhabitants in their plight. I'd love if Azeroth revealed more explorable lands, painted with serene environments and exotic landscapes mixed with unknowable hazards. Until we're IN them, unknowable hazards are truly perilous. So often we can see the dangers ahead or know the threat, partly because we know the bad guys, and it's a matter of waiting until we're given the ability to deal with it. It's probably refreshing for the writers and artists, coming up with unfamiliar stories and creating unseen works, instead of extending the current threat. Coupling danger of an unknown environment we're trying to understand with figuring out how to counter it is thrilling due to all the When asked about playable races, most people pull from a list of what makes sense story-wise or from a list of currently similar avaialable races. But there is another option, being greeted by, discovering, or meeting a race we haven't met yet. Surely Azeroth is home to countless creatures and inhabitants we have not discovered. A people we did not expect to encounter is part of what made getting to know the Pandaren so effective and interesting - we didn't know them or see them being introduced to us as players or to our characters. We got to know them over time. That mystery truly added to the depth of their story. Perhaps we will see new races pop up that we haven't met yet, and get to know them through their expansion. That is one thing I hope for with each expansion. I would like to see that. What little I do know about the Tuskkar and Arakkoa excite me for the possibility of them being playable, plus I love their kits: the shadowy, crooked, trinkety, clever, kooky but warm-hearted Arakkoa, and the big-hearted, brave, stout, adventurous, deep, jolly and kind Tuskarr. There are others of course, but those two instantly pop in my mind as the the known races I'd like to see playable. Blizzard has proven with storylines and art such as those from the snowy Taunka and Tuskkar tribes, the wise and shadowy Arakkoa, and the emboldened Quilboar that special stories and unusual natures that shine in our neighboring races, are some of the best. I would be honored and excited to be given the chance to play as one of these special races. For unknown, I'd love a rabbit or fox race, possibly neighboring Pandaria on a few islands. Samurai and sorcerer type classes. Soft glowing paper lantern class accessory. Oh my god that would be the coolest! I would totally invest my heart and time into that game and onward. Or a Celtic-themed stag race, discovered in an Irishy expansion or zone. That could offer an additional cousin-like direction for druidism that we're unfamiliar with and could be fun!

I like/agree with your idea on having like a class order hall type quest or like the Fel Warlock quest chain in MoP to implement these new sub races. But to be successful i think that after completing the quest you have a one time choice to choose that sub race on your main (and can pay for race change additional times) and then have the sub race be unlocked for any future characters you make. Another thing I would love to see implemented which would go along well with this is like sub races that are class based (sub-classes?). Even though I didnt play Warlock I loved the idea of the fel flame questline in MoP. I know we have the talent trees (obviously...) but for some subraces to apply to only a couple classes. The big problem here is some classes will have much cooler, appearance and lore wise, options and in some ways kind of like the disparity between class mounts or artifact weapons (Paladin Ashbringer, Shaman Elemental mount, etc).

One way around Goblin and Worgen is it might be fair to assume that they won't add subraces for every race. It makes sense to me that the first ones on the chopping block would be Worgen, Goblin, and Pandaren as they were added later. Particularly Worgen and Goblins, as they have very specific starting experiences AND their racial models are due to be updated like the rest of the races were in Warlords.

Running with the idea of reusing skeletons, skins, and assets we have to imagine that we will see an actual half-elf model for Arator in the next expansion, in which case a subrace for elves, humans, or both could be half-elf. It doesn't exist now, of course, but since it will be being made anyway it kind of fits in with the "we've already got most of the work done, let's use this" idea.
@MrSonic57 жыл бұрын
I don't like the idea of subraces replacing the opportunity to get completely new races. The issue for me is, there is no difference in size or silhouette. If you put a full set of plate armour on a lightforged draenei, it's going to look just like a regular draenei, so what's the point? Of course though, this works if blizzard adds subraces that do have differences in shape (zandalar trolls, nightborne) But at that point, you still have to rig all the armour to the models. Begging the question of why you don't just make a new race at that point.

It'll be simple? Lore will have to be written, quests will have to be programmed, and even then, would Silvermoon be flooded with void belfs? Or will they need to create and program brand new starting areas?

Well, it makes more sense for nightborne to be horde, because Silgryn and Lady Liadrin had a talk in the Vindicaar about factions, and by the end of the conversation Silgryn seems pretty sold on the idea. And since Lady Liadrin is a blood elf, I doubt Silgryn would go back to the nightborne telling them to join the alliance. However the conversation was more about factions in her real than which one to join. But I still think that it makes enough sense Also there are Gil-Goblins, aka the fish goblins from Vash'jir

I want any update that adds complexity to the game and lets you have different playstyles from players of the same class. As of right now, every class is played relatively the same (except for some PvP situations) and the player behind the keyboard is more affected by his item level as opposed to his skill level. I miss watching old WoW videos where players would discover some unique skill or item combination that fundamentally changed the way their class was played from the average player. I hope adding subraces will bring some of this potential back.
@assukka7 жыл бұрын
What are some examples of people discovering unique skills/item combinations that changed the way their class was played?
@rockybuchholz17117 жыл бұрын
There's quite a lot. Here is an obvious example that dictated the way many classes were played. Before WoD, the effectiveness of DoTs were determined by your current stats when you initially applied them. For example, if you had an active item that gives you 1000 intellect, then that would be the best time to dump all of your DoTs on a target. In MoP, unholy death knights could get their diseases to last around 90 seconds by using festering strike. That means the best trinkets for unholy death knights were trinkets that had long cooldowns but gave a massive amount of strength for a short period of time. So even if the trinket was low item level, it was more effective than higher item level trinkets that only gave secondary stats. If you understood how to abuse DoTs, no matter what class you were, you would perform significantly better than the average player in both PvE and PvP. A skilled unholy death knight could have double the dps of an unholy death knight of the same item level. Other examples of gameplay variety include pre-Cata strategies of REFUSING to upgrade some of your skills from the class trainer in order to use weaker variants of a skill that have faster cast times and lower mana costs. In BC, supposedly some assassination rogues would not learn mutilate in PvP and instead rely on skills from other skill trees. The list goes on. Nowadays, the game is pretty linear.
@Nemenon7 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't want a simple reskinned race. Something like Tuskarr would be a good example of a good sub race, since it's model is a good bit different but not so different that it doesn't feel like a sub race to w/e. We basically already have Dark Iron dwarves in the game, you can make your skin ash black like theirs, don't remember if you get the red eyes though. High Elves wouldn't work because they look exactly the same as normal Blood Elves or non purple Night Elves.

I don't think High Elves will be a thing because Blood Elves are basically disgraced High Elves but yea Dark Iron Dwarves definitely with all the back and forth Moira has done as the Queen/Empress of the Dark Iron Dwarves. Tuskarr would be awesome I'd definitely make some class of Tuskarr just to run around yelling "FUNNEL CAKE". It's definitely hard to figure out what every race would get xD.

Nightborne make the most sense for Horde as the Nightborne and Sin'dorei have very similar history with both becoming reliant on their wells and becoming manipulated by the Burning Legion. Both Thalyssra and Liadrin made rebellions against their leaders as well with Liadrin opposing Kael'thas in BC with the Shattered Sun Offensive. High Elves are very complicated though because they are very similar to Blood Elves, well they are Blood Elves but they are allied with the Alliance. There's also a crap ton of Troll Tribes, like the Atal'ai in Swamp of Sorrow, Bloodscalp in STV and Skullsplitter in STV. Lots sprung up after Hakkar was defeated in ZG in Vanilla and the Gurubashi Tribe imploded. There's like 10 others as well. Keeping it to the main ones would be the most realistic but Zandalari are most likely to be an oncoming villain so that could be confusing. Also Undead Subraces could be undead versions of different skeletons like their should be thousands of Undead Elves after Arthas destroyed Quel''thalas. Also another Tauren Subrace could be the Yaungol from Pandaria. The best orc subrace would be the straight spine orc, 10/10 would play.

"recently dead like Nathanos" Oh, Asmon. Nathanos has been dead about as long as Sylvannas. The reason those two aren't rotted is bc Syl's body was preserved by dark magic until she reclaimed it. And Nathanos sacrificed his last living relative's life and siphoned some power from a Val'kyr to restore his body to its former strength. So he can serve The Dark Lady longer and stronger (if you know what I mean). I do like your theory though because I always wanted to play a barely-rotten Undead. And the Dark Ranger guard are undead high elves. So hell yeah, Blizzard. Make it happen!

If Horde has an option to make a blood elf a nighbourne (essentially giving horde access to the night elf skeleton), then alliance should get high elf as a night elf subrace (since face it, high elves ARE a subrace of night elves). that would give horde the night elf skeleton and alliance the blood elf skeleton, and would silence alot of people who've been demanding high elves since Vanilla without making them a straight up separate playable race. As for Pandaren...furbolg would be a better match than walrus people >_>

I love the idea of subraces. The only thing I would be disappointed by is if they stop at the 4 that have been datamined. The only way to make subraces hype-worthy is if they add atleast 1 for each race.

If they do add in just the 4 sub-races that have been data mined, the horde is getting screwed. Especially if the Void Elves turn out to be like Alleria, they are clearly the coolest looking, and the light forged Draeni are the second coolest, 3rd Coolest is Highmountain Tauren, and last is the Nightborne. If the theme of the next expansion is light and void and is centered in Kul'Tiras, then it wouldn't make any sense for only the alliance to have light and void customization options.

@therethan-family12347 жыл бұрын
I would define the term subrace not in a biological way but instead in a cultural. In my eyes a subrace would be a group that has strong connections to a pre-existing race/faction. With this argumentation, you could group the high elves with the humans of stormwind since most of them asked the humans for refuge after the split in silvermoon. Other subraces would be more obvious like the wildhammer and dark-iron dwarves living in ironforge or the mag'har and dragon-maw orcs (yes, they are still part of the horde) being allied to the horde. A personal wish of mine would be the broken as a draenei-subrace and since they are cut off the light, they would be able to become warlocks and rouges instead.

What would make a little more sense imo is subraces for the vanilla and TBC factions. Worgen, Goblins and Pandaren don't really have major subraces (except maybe the Gilblins, but canonically they're all mentally fucked). With that, you could also perhaps not assign subraces to the humans or forsaken; then having four each Alliance/Horde where the subraces are fairly justifiable, if not entrenched per se, in the lore

Customization and generally being able to play "dress up" has become pretty staple in modern MMO's so adding more of that in WoW would kinda make sense, why not throw in some cool craftable trasmog items for profs like LW/BS and Tailor that can be sold in AH? Recipes could come from literally any content, rep, raid, dungeons, pvp, WQ etc.. seeing that gear doesn't really matter anymore but its the looks that still matter for most people.

I hope we will get a completely new race. Sub-races are cool but i see more like a patch feature and not an expansion feature.

As software developer I am triggered by the statement that this is necessarily an easy implementation. It LARGELY depends on how forwards compatible and maintained their code is from ~2004 or whenever the game came out. Not to say its not doable, just probably not as easy as you think.

Naga would only require a pant mesh at most, with a band for boots.

Amani and Drakkari Trolls probably wouldn't happen because they are larger than regular Trolls. But Farraki, Gurubashi, and Zandalari could work.

Maybe some of the new races' starting zones could be set in the past and lead up to the present level like the Demon Hunter's. Lorewalker Cho could "tell us their tale".

I think a subrace for human will be High Elf honestly. Would make sense. They can be all the same classes as humans, and are apart of the alliance. People have been wanting them so badly but are to few to be an actual race in itself. Also, for undead they could do what they did for Sylvanas, undead Elves.
@HavocHounds19887 жыл бұрын
Undead could be undead Elves because not only humans are part of the Forsaken in the Ore.
@zzmr_stretchzz87727 жыл бұрын
thing is with most sub races they work for both sides and would not make sense to only join one side
@nathanevans9207 жыл бұрын
Undead subraces could be like undead types of other races like an undead blood elf which is basically Slyvanas
@definitelynotdio85007 жыл бұрын
One thing Blizz could do for the Undead is take the skeletons for other races and make them look a lot paler and just -dead- with the yellow eyes or maybe red ones like Nathanos and other stuff like that, I think that'd be a cool thing like a pale balding Tauren with yellow eyes, although it doesn't bring into account how their racial would work in this case but either way its a interesting thought.
@misterfister99577 жыл бұрын
subraces would be cool, but they'd really be cool if they opened up new class options like... a red drenai couldn't be a priest but can be a warlock or something. And have every subrace start in one big starting zone like an amry of the light training ground for new recruits n shit then go off to our respective faction leaders like yo i've come to join you.

Like hell am I going to be excited for subraces if they don't let us change our current characters. "Hey pay $60 for this new expansion! Now hand over another $15 (if it counts as an appearance change) or $25 (if it counts as a race change) per character to access them! OR completely reroll all of your characters to access these awesome new subraces that will make you never again want to play your boring normal races!" Yeah fuck that. Give us a one time option to change our characters subrace/appearance.

What is it with these popular WoW KZbinrs and their lack of respect for the lore... They have to be careful about what subraces they add because it detracts from the core of the warcraft storyline: Alliance vs Horde. We're more likely to get a 3rd and/or 4th faction than a ton of sub-races. Expect loot boxes if sub-races do happen though.
@usbdixdndjd19267 жыл бұрын
Keihndeth I just wanna go back to the good old days when the alliance felt like the enemy and the game felt somewhat medieval. No warriors jumping up to heaven, no spaceships, no time travel, and no teleporters to other planets. Blizzard could've at least done something creative for travelling to argus like the dark portal.
@keihndeth7 жыл бұрын
completely agree

There's no way we'll get vrykul, there's no such thing as small vrykul if you aren't talking about humans. However, there's 3 Human kingdoms left aside from the kingdom of Azeroth (Stormwind), these are: Dalaran, Kul Tiras and Stromguard. Alterac is pretty much completely destroyed, stromguard can still be recovered though and has a living potential leader (Danath trollbane) who said one day he will restore his kingdom.

Am I the only one who thought that "sub races" in the title actually meant racing a submarine in the water?

As a roleplayer, subraces would be the best possible thing to happen. I hope it's true. Lets rush legion out the door and get this new expansion in already!

I think it would be cooler if they made extensive questlines, like the Warlock greenfire. The Void Elves sound the coolest but it seems insanely dumb to just be able to race change to it. You should have to go a trial to prove yourself worthy of Void touched, and that goes with any other race. Maybe not all, but the special ones like mecha-gnome or some shit.
@terraincognitagaming7 жыл бұрын
"Retool to fit" All armors are just textures applied onto the model, nothing else. Only with Legion are there some more physical changes/attachments. Adding ogres wouldnt be difficult at all. Anyway its not like people complain about current races and their issues with armors, and its not like Blizzard gives a fuck about quality and consistency in the first place. Gnomes cant wear most helm+shoulder combos because the helmets are too big and shoulders clip into the ears/head. Worgens cant wear any helmets without looking completely retarded, plus worgen male shoulders are angles so fucking weirdly. Human females got strangely angled shoulders, from the front some of them appear so fucking bad, plus the spine clipping. and more. Pandas cant wear most helmets either because of how everything scales automaticly and stretches. Human Male is the only model blizzard actually models armors on. The only differences on the other races are shoulder sizes and boots.
