If you complain about the seat's size they move you to a comically large seat inside a glass cage, but here comes the best part, there is a 5$ snicker dispenser that can be activated by the other passengers. This system not only provides entertainment for the rest of the people like in the zoo, it also makes plane tickets cheaper providing funding for the airline to remove seats and include this special seat for very special people :)

My idea was to not let 250-300+ lb people on airplanes at all, but if you did, you'd have a section of the aircraft specifically designated for morbidly obese people, with smaller seats. Make all of them sit together, so they know how non bingeing people feel when we have to sit next to their disgusting ass. I hope they reverse this rule, they should automatically charge more than double price for any obese person for two seats not give them a seat for free, thats just enabling them to be the disgusting fatties they are. Not to mention the more weight in the passenger section means you can carry less cargo, so not only are they losing money on cargo, but theyre losing money on a seat too. I doubt other airlines will do this, but they definitely should make anyone over 250-300+ lbs pay double or more for two seats automatically. I know which airline im not flying with atleast, theres guaranteed to be 10-20x more obese people on these flights now, good luck to that airline i guess

Tbf, this is kinda sorta always been the case , but in ways that are more subtle. It is often times illegal to charge more or less for clothes based on size. Meaning a XXXXXXXL shirt costs just as much as an XS shirt despite the former clearly using up more material. Companies do a combination of opting out of manufacturing certain sizes entirely, and evenly distributing the cost through all sizes that they do manufacture. So the next time you're out shopping for clothes, remember that everything is costing you just an itty bitty tiny bit extra because some people are bigger than you. There's also.. yknow, socialized healthcare where certain individuals are just grossly unhealthy and.. maybe lets not get into that territory huh. A smole edit, but I think that the airlines just made a good decision by having a policy in which they can simply reimburse fat people. Clothing manufacturer's do not and are not obligated to manufacture clothes for every size afterall. I'm hesitant to say that airlines don't have to service people of every size either but that... kind of feels wrong when put to word ngl.

Honestly, airlines created this problem themselves by gradually making seats smaller overtime. In the 90's, airline seats were an average of 18 inches wide with 35 inches of legroom, but now are 16 inches in width with only 34 inches of legroom. And before 1985, no seat was under 19 inches in width. So even though the average American is getting bigger, the seats have been gradually getting much smaller. The real villain here is airlines trying to squeeze as many passengers into a plane as possible for maximum profit at the expense of customer comfort. Airlines couldn't care less if they have to comp 1-2 seats knowing that they are probably cramming 30-60 more people in the plane by making the seats smaller. The airlines probably love it that people are complaining about overweight passengers for their discomfort because it distracts away from the fact that they are making the seats smaller.

The story is plausible, it's essentially the same as being forcibly bumped on an overbooked flight, but I wouldn't outright believe that lady's specfic story without more details. Airlines have policies in place that usually give pretty good compensation if you do get bumped, voluntarily or not. How or why is up to them, but yeah it's usually beneficial even if forced. Granted there are also stories if this going horribly for people. The requirement for needing two seats is often just, "can you fit into one or not?" It's not a "overweight people get free seats" policy and more like "those who need to extra seats to fit can get them for free or reimbursed"

This sent me down a rabbit hole of looking up exactly what happened to that plane in the clip, especially when I learned that it happened in Bagram. I was there in 2021 and have flown out of that airport. I guess they just had a super heavy load and one of the MRAP vehicles broke through its cargo straps and pierced the hull. As soon the pilot felt that he knew there was nothing he could do and the plane just kept climbing until it stalled. Pretty sad and pretty fucking crazy.

I think mentor pilot has a video about it, if you want to know what really happened there were 1/3 the amount of straps there needed to be to hold all of those military vehicles, there were 5 in total 2 smaller ones and 3 bigger ones. Inside it went one small, three big, and one small. The cargo master had no training on how to load heavy vehicles like that, all cargo masters actually had no training at that airline (maybe even all airlines at that time), and he only used 24 straps per vehicle, when it was found out later there shouldve been 64+ straps per vehicle. The plane flew one leg, and they realized the straps were already loose. The captain was scared of that and tried to confirm with the load master everything was okay. The load master said yes, he tightened them back down. So they took off again, well as soon as they started pitching up one of the vehicles came loose, slamming into the back of the aircraft and damaging shit. With the weight suddenly shifting to the back, the plane started pitching up even more than the pilot wanted, eventually stalling and falling back into the ground. Everyone died, 5 people i think, the cargo spread out pretty far and all destroyed. Sad. It changed aviation for the better though, cargo masters didn't have to be certified by the faa or anything like that before the crash, but now they have more oversight from the faa and more training. Crazy shit. You could basically be anyone who worked at an airport and work your way up to cargo master without really knowing what you were doing, you of course had some training but not nearly enough, espically for special cargo like that.

Another case of an individual asking everyone else to accommodate their extremism. I can go outside and count up to maybe to few thousands or even more people in the row which aren't overweight at least much. There's a difference between "obese" and *_"morbidly_* obese." She's part of the latter. A morbidly obese person cannot occupy a normal passenger seat, whilst the former can still sit in one without much difficulty. There _are_ about a billion obese people on the planet. There are however only ~55 million morbidly obese people -- less than 1% of the entire human population. tldr: she's deliberately misrepresenting the facts to push her own selfish agenda instead of pursuing a healthier lifestyle. I'm confident this nonsense will sort itself out soon enough.

Like, I am a big dude, both height and weight, but never really felt having issues with planes, and what I normally travel with is domestic smaller, like propeller plane kind of deal. These people are lazy, and literally have destroyed a movement in my eyes. I remember when body positivity was about accepting who you are in the mass focus on the perfect body protrayed by the media, bodies you could close to never achieve without drastic measures, money and time. Now it is about accepting to be morbidly obese. Wtf happened?

It might seem unfair for some people to get an extra seat for free, but it beats accidentally choosing the seat next to them and getting sat on the entire flight. Their fat is going to utilize the seat next to them for free regardless, might as well let them have it.

Yeah a lot of these comments don't have a lot of thought put onto it. They should also keep in mind how airlines have tried to shrink the space per passenger to fit in an extra seat which has made sitting next to a larger person on the plane a bit more intimate than it would have been forty years ago. This kind of policy is absolutely the smartest way to deal with it. Think about it, in the case that the plane isn't at max capacity it costs the airline nothing for an overweight person to have an empty seat next to them. It's much easier to arrange it so the bigger people get those spots if they have indicated the need for it when booking their ticket. What about when there isn't enough free capacity for the extra seats? Well then they don't get the extra seat unless they explicitly paid for it. But they have the option of getting off the plane and being reimbursed if they can't fit in the one seat they have booked.

The solution is simple: Build airplanes with huge seats but tiny door frames and walkways to the planes. If you somehow manage to get to the plane you not only worked out, you earned it! Oh and if you weigh over 200kg we also have designated seats right next to the engines. You know, since we want you on the plane but we want to ensure you feel as uncomfortable as the ones sitting inside your folds do.
