@@aeryellae5837 The olympics has 10 km marathon. How is that not long distance? It's called marathon for a reason.
@wolfie543215 сағат бұрын
@@siphu The theory is that when you make the distance so long that men's strength advantage reduces, women have an endurance advantage supposedly because of higher percentage body fat and different metabolism, so we're talking races that are 25+km and take a whole day to swim compared to a 10km race that might only take a couple of hours. For example, the Manhattan Island Marathon (46km swim) has occasionally been won by a woman and women are often in the top runners. But on average, men win those events far more often and you have to cherry pick to find events won by women. The nature of extreme distance swimming, you're very often going to have races where not-the-best are going to be competing. The 2020 36km Napoli swimming marathon was won by a women, but that woman hasn't won any other events (even women only ones) so we can't really say the best woman beat the best man.
@aeryellae58374 сағат бұрын
@@siphu The premise of the article is about persistence hunting. Persistence hunting is effectively when you chase down prey until it becomes exhausted and/or dies. To be clear, I don't even know if there's any evidence that persistance hunting was practiced by our ancestors. It's just a theory. The authors are commenting on the misguided belief that men were the hunters and women were gatherers because men had an advantage over long distance. They're effectively saying that when you look at the skeletons, there's no evidence that the sexes were specialized in such a fashion, and that as the distances become longer, the gap between men's performance and women's performance narrows, and in some cases is negligible. So for instance, if you look at the average time of the English Channel swim, the average female time is 33 minutes faster than the average male time. They're not talking about professional athletes or sports as we normally think about them. Edit: And I just want to point out, the inequity they were discussing in the article had to do with a long distance race where they didn't let women use male pace setters, but they let the men use male pace setters. The reason that's an inequity is that since pace setters are only running a fraction of the race, and men are faster over short distances, a male pace setter would theoretically be able to set a faster pace than a woman.

It's true though from a point of view, its a series of learned behaviours and character traits, that you usually pick up a bunch of on one side or the other depending on your sex, which causes it to be pretty much two categories. But theres no hardcoded "gender" in your body, its just the category of behaviours we associate with a sex, so maybe he's just thinking in that way as a scientist

My brother and i used to fight as kids all the time. Just 2 boys fighting as they do. Mum always waded in and gave us smacks all round to break us up. One day at around the age of about 12 or 13 i was fighting with my brother again. Being a year older than me he won the fight. As i sat on the ground nursing my busted lip and bloody nose i looked up and saw my mum looking out at us from the kitchen window. She had watched the whole fight and never moved a muscle. Later that evening we asked her why she didn't stop us and she replied: "I didn't see my two boys fighting, i saw two young men punching each other in the face..there was no way i could get inbetween you two and physically stop you". We never really fought again after that. We realised our punches could do serious damage to each other and so we just...stopped.

If Neil seen a man beating up a woman in public, he would be the first person to want to call the cops. All of these 'men and women' are equal people are the first ones that would want full charges pressed and would immediately cite how abusive the man is.
@MysteriousTomJenkins7 сағат бұрын
Yeah, that is the hypocrisy of it that they don't want to address because it either ruins their argument beyond repair or makes unfortunate implications. Idiots: Men and woman are equal physically. They can do the same sports, do the same jobs, there is no difference besides what society opposes. Rational people: So by that logic, it is not a serious issue if a man physically assaults a woman, because both are equal physically? Idiots: No, men can easily harm and kill women while women couldn't do the same! Rational people: But you said they can easily achieve the same physical feats and could do the same physical activities... Idiots: They can. Rational people: So a brawl between a man and a woman is no different than a brawl between two guys? Idiots: No, a woman could get seriously hurt by a guy!
@Greywander877 сағат бұрын
They want to have their cake and eat it too. Equality, except when it's inconvenient. It's a normal reaction to side with the woman in an altercation in the absence of other information, but it's normal precisely _because_ the man is bigger and stronger, meaning it's a higher likelihood that they are the aggressor (only stupid, emotional, or desperate people attack someone stronger than them). Equality was always a pipe dream. Conservatives recognize the differences between sexes and embrace them, and we're happier for it.

The implication being that once you're considered a "world expert" in one area, people (as well as the expert's ego) tend to view that person as that in other areas that they view as adjacent. Just thought I'd share that little nugget.
