I also love how they have a Horde character being helped by Alliance soldiers. And even though they're up against the Lich King neither Lady Liadrin nor the rank and file Alliance soldiers hesitate. One of the things I always liked about WoW is how even just faceless nameless NPC soldiers are still shown to play a major role in the story and game.

Arcane and Castlevania are definitely good references. I don't even like LoL but absolutely enjoyed Arcane. And Castlevania was phenomenal. Didn't try to reinvent Castlevania at all. There were a few differences from the games, but it absolutely was fantastic.

Arcane was a passion project made by talented pros in the industry who love the LoL universe and wanted to bring it to life for the fans in its glory. Also Riot gave the Arcane team green lit with everything they wanted to do and with no deadline for release unlike Activion Blizzard who would want to ship the movies/shows in a limited timespan disregarding the quality of the show at its current time to generate instant revenue . also its a heavy gamble since a WOW show can turn into the next rings of power or Witcher if the showrunners are not passionate about the project , wanting to please the "modern audiences" and fulfill their own ambitions in their vision rather than sticking faithfully to the source material and enchancing it with original content

They also use/used Arcane tv-show as a proof-of-concept on how LoL's world would look like in the upcomming LoL MMORPG. Basicly it was skill, experience, passion and also continuity.

You know... this may potentially them testing the waters. This animation fits very well into that market that Arcane and Edgerunners hit. This could be of course not only a trailer for Hearthstone, but also a foreshadowing that something else is coming. They definitely have access to a team that can do this style. As far as marketing goes, jumping on the animated series trend would be 100% in their interest.

It would definitely be a great time to do it because (DECENT) video game adaptations are on the rise to become the next big fad in the movie industry, finally replacing the cape & comic book phase that dominated the industry since the mid-late 2000's. Arcane, Castlevania, Sonic, Detective Pikachu, Cyberpunk Edgerunners, Mortal Combat, Cuphead - now the upcoming Mario movie, The Last of Us series, the Fallout series - it's pretty clear that video game adaptations are going to become the next big thing. So yes, it would be smart for Blizzard to jump on that (as well an Overwatch show.)

The reason it took so long was because the higher-ups at Riot basically made the head guy of Arcane redo it. The visuals were there but the script wasn't great, so they had him rewrite it and put the show on hold in the meantime. That's when the studio worked on projects like the Worlds videos and the KDA videos. But I agree, I doubt that Activision-Blizzard would be willing to say "Start over" these days if the first season of a show they had worked on wasn't living up to their standards after years of production.

They could do several seasons in a Clone Wars style animation, where we could see Arthas episode by episode, from training to fighting orcs, then leading his men against the Scourge, and eventually turning on his people. Lowfi animation actually fits WoW's aesthetics well, atleast with the game. We are also used to ingame animation machinima used for ingame cutscenes. The intense detail of Arcane and especially the Warcraft movie is overkill and doubt modern Blizz would have that much money to throw around anymore.

I'd say, look at Vox Machina. That should be the standard for RPG based animated stories. (admittedly I didn't see Arcane so I don't know much 'bout it). The one thing Blizz has going for it is every cinematic it's ever done has been absolutely gorgeous and people tend to love them more than the game. Really, Blizz needs to capitalize on it (but they've known that for years, and don't so I'd be suspect over why).

If they did make a WoW animated series I’d be down no matter what, people have wanted to see more out of the animation team for over a decade now. But, I’d like to see them do what Arcane and Edgerunners did with tweaking the in game universe in order to make a great animated story, the tale of Arthas is amazing, but I’d like to see a Wrath of the Lich King series without the heroes of Azaroth present, meaning we get to see more characters like Saurfang, Magni, Sylvannas, Uther, Malygos, Varian, KT, Tirion, and Valeera in action. Or they could even create an original story with one of WoWs many stories (Invasion of Outland, beginning of Horde vs Alliance, the Blood Elves introduction, Fall of Gillneas, The Goblins, Défias Uprising, The Nightelves and High Elf dispute, before the separation of Azaroth, pre or post Cataclysm, the Fall of Arthas, post or pre Wrathgate, Gadgetzan (in lore it’s a gigantic city), and many more).

It should hook a lot of people, would be easy introductions to the legion and the lich king. Whilist still keeping the hostilities between the horde and the alliance. although we need a good arthas and/or warcraft3 series i would prefer something more unique like a meta series that takes place in the real world where the game exists and follows a group of players from the launch of wow up until dragonflight. the community dynamic of wow and mmos is what they need to sell people on, its a great experience.
