Does the game ever explain how you can use unforgivable curses without losing fragments of your soul?

You loose fragments when you create horcruxes, taking a part of your soul and hiding it away. Dark magic/unforgivable curses may simply effect your personality slowly over time as any other great power would

i believe the lore is that if you commit murder you split your soul, then the act of creating a horcrux allows you to place the split off piece of your soul into something else, so as long as you aren't creating a horcrux then the piece of your soul doesn't get sealed away

It's not the chamber of secrets...Salazar made more hidden places, remember that in Harry they said they didn't find all secrets that Hogwarts hide..if I remember it correctly.
