@@Chokokill The problem was that Payday 3 was a great concept, the team they decided to work with was not, they're greedy. They went and copyright claimed a game on roblox, which by the way payday 2 devs said they're cool. Technically the copyright goes to overkill, so idk why the other team with overkill is copyright claiming games like those that copy payday 2. It's not the devs most of the time, its the people that provide them money. They're the true asshats.

I was about to say something similar. I hate my clients in a way because every time they have a problem I hate it. But we love them in another sense because we still want to make the best product possible for them. It's the same in most industries, servers hate the clients, cashiers hate the shoppers etc... But we still do out job.

The difference is that while you and your clients can hate each other, you still need each other. You need them to keep having computer trouble so you keep your job and they need you to fix their computer trouble. What happens if you or your clients is missing? Well either you're out of a job, or they're stuck with problems they can't fix. But game devs? They aren't needed by the gamers. However, ALL game devs need gamers. What happens when game devs disappear? Gamers will step up and make games, thus new devs are born. Alternatively, gamers will just keep playing the same games that already exist. Or they just find something else to entertain them. Books, movies, tv shows, anything really. But if gamers disappear, the game devs are out of a job. No matter how well they do, no matter how big their budget is, every game they make becomes a financial blackhole. To give an apt comparison, if all IT guys in the world disappeared today, the world would end in a month. So IT guys are essential to the world. If all game devs disappeared from the world, the world would keep moving on. It'd be a struggle for a couple years, or even a decade or two, but the world would move on. So game devs are not essential to the world. TLDR: IT guys are needed more by their clients than game devs are needed by gamers. PS. Plus games are an art, if you make shitty art, no one will want it. But if you do a shitty repair or fix for a computer (unethical, I know), the client has to come back to the IT guy again.

Hubris, what you really mean is that you think everyone should love your work and undeniable skills. Your ego won’t let you consider that maybe your product isn’t particularly good, so your audience always loves what you do. If they don’t, they are at fault. Hey, maybe you knock everything out of the park, but that attitude won’t help you improve and grow. There’s always room for improvement, but believing you don’t need to continually attempt to improve and you’ll probably end up believing your customers don’t know what they want, are just annoying people and don’t know what they’re talking about if you are ever critisised . If you think becoming a game dev is easier than fixing a computer yourself, you're really delusional and have no idea how much effort game dev requires. If you do shitty repairs, you will lose clients and either the clients will pick another shop or just do that themselves or just buy a new computer, DIY computer fixing is a lot easier than DIY game dev. If you create a shit game, the client will go to a different game, the same way you do consistently low quality repair fixes, the client will also go to a different repair shop.

I am a gamedev. This is 1000% what the VAST majority of gamedevs think. Almost all of them, especially indies, despise their own fans. Never meet your heroes btw. I met a peer indie I respected a lot for his game. He straight up told me "Fuck my fans. If they dont want to do EXACTLY as I demand, they can fucking keep their money." This guy became a millionaire bc of his fans. Almost all of them are nice to him too. His game is niche and well received with almost no criticism. Yet he despises his fans. That generation has grown up and started families, which means less time and money for games. Meanwhile the next generation is being spoon-fed what to think, what to do and essentially being brainwashed into to having a moldable and easily manipulated perspective. Most kids of this upcoming generation dont have a definitive sense of who they are. Older generations work out who they are and want to be through trial and error, experience and their upbringing. Kids these days get a minimal amount of this and their upbringing is highly questionable. Is it racist to say that a black person would be a different person? Think of it like this, for some reason the ancient romans in movies are often depicted by people with British accents (because a lot of media about the romans were made in the UK) eventually somebody said "hey we should hire Italians for this" and so they did... Italians from the UK, so they continued to have British accents. See what I mean now? Recoloring somebody's skin or inverting their genitalia is NOT enough to properly represent who that person is and what they represent. A majority of these race swaps are crafted and approved by the old white men at the top of the heap who know "making him black will make us more money" so instead of hiring black character writers to craft a nuanced and good character, they just tell the same writing room full of white people "make a character black" not "make a black character"

The problem with games by and large is that they're trying to cater to everyone and get the biggest market share and are therefore enormous in size and budget to a point where even slight failure is a studio closure. It has nothing to do with "agenda pushing" or whatever. Nobody cares about "agendas" if the game is good. IE: Baldur's Gate. They only single out LGBT content or 'ugly characters' if the game's bad and pretend it's the reason it failed. But realistically there's a ton of failures just in general right now.

I have seen it used without hatred or dislike, but most of the times I have seen that and related terms used, there was an underlying context of tribalism and dislike for anyone not in their tribe. Which is probably the biggest problem with modern politics both sides have gone too trivalistic, and openly show obvious contemp for the other side or anyone who disagrees on even a single issue, and echo chamber themselves to only hear the opinions the like parrots back to them. The level of discussion and compromise that are needed for a functioning society to keep functioning in the long term just are not there anymore. Most of the cast is diverse ethnically and sexuality wise but the game isn't in your face about it or focused on it. It focused on the gameplay and the comedic writing. A big problem with many modern game devs is they think all gamers want to see themselves perfectly represented in games. I've played as mostly male characters in games because until recent years most games had the male hero to play as without options. Most of those games also are the ones typically completed in under 20 hours though. If I'm playing a game that I can sink over 500 hours into then I'd prefer female characters because I'd rather see the female butt pixels for all those hours instead of male butt pixels lol.

Any games that attempt to mimic real life will be more likely to fail because people play games to get adventures that they cannot have in real life. GTA is so popular because people can go completely crazy doing things they could never do IRL. MMOs are popular because of the fantasy worlds they provide that will never be seen in real life. Games like COD and CS stay popular because people can get the thrill of that type of shooter without having to risk getting shot IRL. People often prefer more over the top characters in a game that doesn't mimic anything seen IRL.

If a "game designer" hates gamers then they are in the wrong line of work, them hating the folks they are designing for means the product will be negatively effected. It is bad enough we have wokeness blanketing why games are bad but to have the folks making them hate the ones they are making them for just adds to the issue of why games aren't as good. There are more reasons as it is nuanced issue but still would help if those two things weren't as prevalent. Also want to point out Cyberpunk 2077 (was crap on release but got better especially now with the new DLC and patches/bug fixes) is very DIE but it doesn't really throw it in your face and is a good game that can include a majority. It was a table top rpg orginally which we all know when those were popping it was made for dudes because they were the majority audience. The modernization of the franchise was done well (probably because the creator still has all rights and was heavily involved in the making).

Such characters are also usually poorly written, shallow and/or out of place in the setting.

It's ALL FAKE, it's ALL MANUFACTURED, the only real requirement for art is that it's A FORCED NARRATIVE. Even documentary, even fake documentary, even live news footage, ALL OF IT IS FAKE. Real life does not have a perspective outside of the one you see. When you see anything created, it's from a separate perspective than your own, that makes it fake. The ironic part is the criticism, yours included, IS FORCED TOO. No one asked you, and you're not even being paid to write it. To be fair most of the game designers on Reddit have brain rot. I pitched a project on r/INAT for web dev and a game designer chimed in to laugh at my idea as if he knew more than me about the industry I've been in professionally for 13 years while also having a website for his game design consultancy that looked like a can of rotten sardines. But I guess that's just most Redditors. A lot of losers irl that try to act like authorities online to feel better.

Indeed, with 800-ish likes on their comment, and 10K likes on this one, I’d imagine the ratio is gonna stay about the same there. For every out of touch skinner dev like that, there are about 12 devs that are actually trying to make something that can attract a player base. Issue nowadays is that all the principal skinners have banded together inside several AAA western companies. So the other 12 devs are working for indies or the AA(?) studios (I’m talking about midsized stuff like Larian). It’s a problem that solves itself, in time, as the skinners will eventually tank the companies they infest until the corpos fire them, and then the other 12 will fill the gap. And once you factor in the east, it becomes clear that the skinners are truly a tiny minority on the global stage, as they are virtually nonexistant outside NA and EU.
