Some clarification on the lore to better understand the intro battle: Sun Wukong's biggest weakness, is the Golden Headband he wears on his head. That headband is enchanted and he cannot remove it. The headband shrinks whenever the secret mantra is recited, and it causes him terrible pain. That's how the powerless human monk Tang Sanzang kept him under control. Whenever he misbehaves, the monk recites the mantra and Sun Wukong would be rolling in pain. During the intro, when he was flying as a bird, we can see that the Golden Headband is suddenly activated. That's why he was holding his head because it was crushing his skull. I guess we will find out who recited the mantra later in the game, to find out who caused his demise. If the headband wasn't activated, there's no way Erlang Shen could've defeated him.

Doesn't the headband tighten on its own when he has too strong "humanly" emotions? I remember in Stephen chows version(Chinese Odyssey), he tries to save his love(who got stabbed) but then then headband tightens because he could not let go of love/rage and his past life or something like that. A rating of 9-9.5 is indeed a very high evaluation, which means that someone who lacks understanding of Chinese culture can still enjoy this game. However, for players who are knowledgeable about Chinese culture, this game is definitely a 10/10, because it is filled with numerous details that are REALLY Chinese. Almost every detail you see and hear has undergone rigorous research, which means that a Chinese player may acquire 10 times more information during the gameplay than a non-Chinese player. The buildings, sculptures, and items in the game are not fictional but are based on real world buildings, sculptures, and cultural relics. For example, in every scene of meditation, there is an item resembling a cup, which is called a "Boshan Incense Burner." It is a type of incense burner cast using the lost-wax casting method and was popular in China over 2,000 years ago. Many Boshan Incense Burners of different shapes are now collected in Chinese museums. Another example is the headless man's song in Chapter 2, which is a type of ballad from central and western China called Qin Qiang which is itself a national intangible cultural heritage.

That Erlang in the beginning is a famous demi-god in Chinese mythology, his mother was the Jade Emperor’s sister and his father was a mortal, Yang Tianyou. His real name is Yang Jian, aka Erlang. With his talent, Erlang became powerful above most gods, however his mother was punished and sealed under a mountain for uniting with a lowly mortal. He is known for saving his mother by cleaving the entire mountain open with a great axe (the one we saw in the game) and fought off everyone who stood in his way. After that, he overcame countless tasks and challenges and earned a rightful place in Tianting (The Celestial Court), as the three-eye warrior and guardian of heaven at his uncle, the Jade Emperor’s side. Also, he keeps a hound called Xiaotian (meaning Howling at the Sky). Sun Wukong always make fun of him, calling him nephew because Wukong is “equal of heaven”, and Yang Jian usually doesn’t give a Fxxk.

After I learned about "Journey to the West," I really came to appreciate the story. It's full of philosophy and satire. The monk Tang Sanzang is on a quest to get sacred scriptures from the West, and Wukong is there to help him. They face 81 trials along the way, each one involving different Yaoguai. What's ironic is that most of these Yaoguai are actually pets of heavenly beings, let loose because of poor management in Heaven. These Yaoguai have powerful backers, so whenever Wukong tries to defeat them, their divine masters show up to save them. On the other hand, Yaoguai without any connections or background just die with no one coming to their rescue.

The only Context you will ever need, from an Asian man growing up watching all the films and have read all the novels about Sun Wukong : This game happens after the events in the novel Journey To The West - a Chinese novel written in the 16th Century. In the novel, Wukong was a monkey born from a magical stone. At the beginning of the Universe, Nuwa ( the Goddess of Creation ) used her power to create all lives in the Universe, the excess energy from that event takes the form of 5 stones ( Wukong was born from 1 of those 5 stones ). Think of it like the Infinity Stones - enormous cosmic power. These 5 stones are then scattered among the Realms, one of them lands on the Mountain of Flowers and Fruits. After thousands of years absorbing energy of the Heaven and the Earth, the stone cracked, giving birth to a magical monkey - Sun Wukong. He was incredibly strong and smart from birth, and was named the Monkey King by all the monkeys in the Mountain. But, he still could not defeat aging and death. So he roams the land, seeking a master to learn the secret of immortality. After a long time practicing Taoism magics, and had achieved immortality, he returns to his mountain and named himself The Great Sage equals to Heaven. His playful and cocky nature doesn't sit well with the Celestial Court ( led by the Jade Emperor ) , so between them, there was a beef. Fearing that Wukong would cause destruction, the Jade Emperor offered him a job in Heaven. During this time, he wanders around 33 levels of the Heavenly Palace, achieved 7 more layers of immortality ( by eating A WHOLE ASS GARDEN of immortality peaches, drinking Wine of Immortality, eating gourds of Immortality...... ). He even goes as far as going to Hell, bullying the God of Death, and erases his name out of the Book of Death, granting him another layer of immortality. Wukong is technically a force of the Universe, and now he can't die due to 7 layers of immortality. These acts made the Jade Emperor furious. Then, the Jade Emperor ordered the Celestial Court to sent 100.000 heavenly soldiers ( including Erlang Shen and the Four Heavenly Kings in the video above ) upon him, Sun Wukong defeated them all. He destroys the whole Heavenly Palace and threaten the life of the Jade Emperor. In a panic, the Jade Emperor had to ask the All Mighty Buddha to intervene. Buddha defeated Wukong, and trapped him under a mountain for 500 years to teach him a lesson. After leaving, Buddha said that in order to repent for his sins, Wukong must embark on a Journey. His mission was to escort a monk named Tang Sanzang from the East ( China ) to the West Heaven ( India ) to acquire the Scriptures of Buddha. Guanyin ( the right hand of Buddha ) gave Tang Sanzang the Golden Headband to keep Wukong in check ( because Tang Sanzang was only a mere weakling mortal ). By chanting the right words, the Headband will tighten around Wukong's forehead, giving him excruciating headache ( that's what happened in the video - maybe someone was reading the chant when Wukong turns into a bird - could be Buddha or Guanyin, i don't know ). After 17 YEARS of walking ON FOOT, defeating hundreds of monsters, they reached the West Heaven and acquired the Scriptures of Buddha. The party, including Tang Sanzang, Sun Wukong, Pigsy and Sandy - were all given Buddhahood for their achievements. Sun Wukong was named The Victorious Fighting Buddha. All the events in this game happen after that. I hope this would give Western audience more insights, and hopefully, more love for the beautiful story of Journey To The West. I highly suggest you all watch the film adaptations ( the most well-loved in Asia was the 1986 adaptation, the CGI is bad, but the story is beautiful. It is a long and profound story of the Journey, teaching us about love, compassion, and humanity, guiding us all on the Journey to achieve godhood ).

Correction: I forgot that Sun WuKong is 7 Times Immortal, actually.... Don't forget everyone that Sun WuKong is "Immortal 7 Times Over." Kickass? YES! No, it doesn't make logical sense how one cannot die 6 times over but here's how this badass mofo did it (this is a bit long so channel your attention span. FOCUS!!!): 1. He initially became immortal after a Taoist Sage foolishly made WuKong his disciple and taught him a Secret Tao practice that made him immortal. 2. He then became twice immortal when he was taking a nap and was essentially soul kidnapped and sent to hell by "mistake" (the Jade Emperor definitely had a hand in it). While there WuKong is foolishly shown the ledger of life and death which are scrolls that have the names of all things and beings who are destined to live and die (seeing a pattern here) and simply erases his name and as many monkey bois from his mountain from it that he can before the Hell authorities stop him and he just fights his way outta Hell. Making him and most of his monke crew unable to be touched by the Gods of Hell making them virtually immortal. 3. He became thrice immortal after the Jade Emperor foolishly allows WuKong into Heaven and assigns WuKong to tend to the Orchard of Peaches of Immortality. WuKong obviously eats some. 4. He became 4 times immortal when someone foolishly mentions an exclusive Heavenly Party and WuKong sneaks into said Heavenly Party (he wasn't invited) and steals a cask of Immortal Wine and drinks it. 5. He became 5 times immortal when he snuck into the Sage Laozi's alchemical lab (Laozi foolishly left it unlocked and unguarded) and finds gourds full of pills of immortality/immortal elixir. He consumes them all. 6. He became 6 times immortal when he finds a ginseng baby fruit tree and eats one. This fruit only ripens every 9000 years and only 30 fruit at a time. Consuming it grants you 47,000 years of immortality. Making you virtually immortal because you can just wait 9000 years and eat more ginseng baby bruit and keep repeating the process. 7. He became 7 times immortal when the gods, sick of his shit, tried to essentially boil him alive to get the immortality out of him but instead they boiled the mortality out of him. Making him immortal. Oh And BTW, he ALSO achieved Enlightenment aka becoming a Buddha. Technically making him kinda immortal through reincarnation... So yeah... Sun WuKong is all buffs and no nerfs. All this to say, READ JOURNEY TO THE WEST! It reads like an Ancient Chinese Shonen manga and it kicks ass. You can definitely see the influences Akira Toriyama used for Dragonball. Also WuKong isn't even the main character, Tripitaka the Monk/Tang Sanzang is. It's an absolutely awesome read! If you don't wanna read it, the KZbin channel "Overly Sarcastic Productions" are breaking down the book into short episodes and they currently have 11 episodes as of this comment.

Hah. A little bit of background here: Wukong's armor here is based on the design used in The Journey to the West 1986, the TV series. It was Koei who copied the design, or may I say they took inspiration of Wukong 1986 and Lu Bu from the 1994 Romance of the Three Kingdoms. About the TV series, to say it was a classical would be a mighty understatement. It was a huge project by CCTV (the National television of mainland China), consider it a cultural promotion project backed by the government back then. The amount of talents gathered there was huge, to the point I would say it would be impossible to replicate something of that level in the modern days. Imagine artists that were like Barbra Streisand and Taylor Swift of China, several dozens of that all featured in a single project. The only Western equivalent I could think of would be Waterloo 1970. But while Waterloo took 28 weeks for the filming, the production of The Journey to the West took an entire 6 years, and there was not any delay or lackluster in it. Just hard work, and talents. To the Western audience it might be something entirely new and fresh. But to us especially of the South East Asia (Vietnamese here), many of us grew up watching that. To us it's not minty fresh, but of reminiscent. All and all it's great. And then we have other elements like the nimbus or the clone technique. Say, the TV series was based on the novel of the same title. First published around the end of 16th century, and considered 1 of the 4 pillars of classic literature in Chinese culture. How huge it was? Well not just Dragon Balls took inspiration from it, almost any classical writer or scholar from Japan or Vietnam could tell you of the four. The nimbus was there, the original Wukong - Goku rode the cloud, Son Goku later adopted that. Of the 72 spells that Wukong had, one of which he could take a tuft of fur, blow on it and each strand will turn into a clone. Yes the modern manga ninja learned that. All heritage, from centuries ago. Another aspect I find interesting is that the Black Myth Wukong is backed by Tencent, and the China government has a very strong grip on major corps. Take a pinch: The game soundtracks take after many of the 1986 TV series (you can search for that, Journey to the West theme song). Given the Intellectual property would be state-owned, how did Tencent acquire that for Game Science to put them in their game? They must have permission from higher management. So personally, it's an AAA game, but I suspect more or less it's a strategic product, not directly but at least strongly supported by the government. To give back Wukong his proper position, not just some far away, sometimes mentioned predecessor of Goku? Or maybe a culture push, just like how the Korean did with their K-Pop wave. Either way, it's beautiful seeing this. An interesting story to unfold. Eh, have fun guys.
@bobdole38043 ай бұрын
It's always cool to see where the inspirations for many of you favorite franchises come from. And I've long suspected the Chinese Government was happy to support projects like this, it's hard to imagine seeing dozen and dozens of successful franchises based on classical Chinese literature with no one actually knowing said literature. From the reception I have to imagine they feel this was a successful endeavor.

As soon as I started playing the game I realized how little exposure we get from Chinese culture in games. Games in the West are always filled with Orcs and Elves and such. The creatures and stories in Wukong are amazing! You have a really rich culture in China and you should be proud of it.

As a Chinese, I'm really amazed by their production, every monster, be it a boss or a mini-monster, has their own story, which are interspersed with parts of ancient Chinese cultural works, such as the original Journey to the West, the Classic of the Mountains and Seas, and the Feudal Tablet. I this game is like reading super cool literature. I'm worried if their translations, such as the ditties, the monsters' voiceovers, etc. will allow people who don't speak Chinese to perceive the flavor and charm of this work.

They said that this game has three or four endings, each of which will be based on the number of achievements you have completed to battle different bosses and complete different story endings. This may also include the battle of the "Four Heavenly Kings". If you complete all the "81 Hardship" achievements, it will trigger an epic battle between Sun Wukong and the Heavenly Court. I haven't watched it yet, so I will leave suspense to complete and challenge the final ending myself. I hope to see it in your video too. Wishing you a happy game.❤❤

To those that don’t understand the English voice over for Sun, it’s intentional. The game is supposed to be an epilogue to the Journey to the West story, and Wukong is based off the 1986 tv series. His voice is meant to be shrill and wild, he is a monkey. If you think the voice is funny, that’s honestly good, he’s meant to be a humorous character. Chinese dub captures that better and has actual lip syncing but honestly the English VA did pretty good. Edit: yes I know the game is based off the “Journey to the west (XiYouJi)” novel I’m saying the way they portray Wukong is based off the 1986 series tv series which is where we get the goofy ass monkey laugh and shrill voice. For Christ’s sake exercise just a little bit of reading comprehension before commenting “ACKSHUALLY👆 🤓”

"The Journey to the West" tells a story of resistance, and in fact, China has too many stories of this kind, fighting against powerful authorities. Two thousand years ago, someone cried out, "Are kings and ministers born to their stations?" marking the beginning of the rebellion against the rule of the Qin Dynasty. With Sun Wukong, it became a tale of defiance against heaven itself. "I want all the gods in the heavens to vanish into thin air."

@joyuming83653 ай бұрын
Erlang is not related to wukong by blood. Wukong refers to him as brother because erlang was the only one who could match his fighting prowess among the celestial court. After wukong had bested all 100 000 heavenly soldiers, the four celestial kings, ju-ling shen (the big guy in the back), and the third prince nezha, the jade emperor was in distress and didnt know who could stop wukong and subdue him so he could face judgement in heaven. The bodhissatva Guanyin (the one who the black bear referred to as master) stepped in and informed the celestial court that Erlang could best wukong in combat. They fought and were on par with each other but the the supreme heavenly lord of dao (creator of many of the celestial taiyi pills you find throughout the stages) intervened as they were fighting and hit wukong in the head with an elemental ring (this is not wukong's headband shown in the game) and thus wukong was defeated and brought to the celestial court by erlang to be executed. This is why Erlang refers to wukong as "someone he has bested before" (even though it wasnt really a fair fight in a way)

The 72 Earthly Evil Techniques that Sun Wukong knows refer to 1. Passing through the secluded places: Passing through the secluded places means being able to go to and from hell freely. Everyone knows that going to hell is not difficult, but coming back is not so easy. If you master the skill of passing through the secluded places, you can go to hell to play at will. Sun Wukong was able to go to the King of Hell to change the Book of Life and Death, so he used this method. 2. Expelling gods: Expelling gods. 3. Carrying mountains: It means being able to carry the weight of a mountain. Sun Wukong was able to survive under the Five Fingers Mountain because of this method. 4. Forbidding water: Being able to pass through water unimpeded. Although it is unimpeded, Sun Wukong's attack power in water battles is not as good as Sha Wujing, and his ability is even more limited in special waters such as the Flowing Sand River. In the end, Guanyin had to come forward to settle it. After all, everyone has their own expertise and abilities. 5. Borrowing wind: Being able to drive the wind. 6. Spreading fog: As the name suggests, it means making fog appear wherever you want. 7. Pray for clear weather: can make rainy days clear. 8. Pray for rain: when Tang Monk and his three disciples were fighting in Chechi Kingdom, Sun Wukong competed with Huli Daxian in praying for rain. 9. Sitting on fire: not afraid of fire. 10. Entering water: diving into the deep sea. 11. Covering the sun: can avoid the strong light of the sun. 12. Riding the wind: can ride the wind, the "flying skill" in Journey to the West. 13. Boiling stones: alchemy. Can make elixirs. 14. Breathing flames: can spit fire. 15. Swallowing a knife: can eat a knife into the stomach. 16. Pot sky: the small space in the pot can become the sky, can become smaller. 17. Divine movement: the spirit transcends the body and swims freely. 18. Walking on water: walking on the water. 19. Staff: You can abandon your body and go to heaven, or you can escape without leaving your body and just pretend to have an object (such as clothes, staff, sword) to escape. Sun Wukong often escapes by this. 20. Clone: Not only can you create multiple versions of yourself. You can also create multiple versions of other objects. 21. Invisibility: Invisibility. 22. Continuation: You can do this, so Sun Wukong can grow back after being beheaded. 23. Immobilization: There is no problem using this to deal with small monsters. 24. Demon-slaying: Many ghosts and monsters have no physical body. You can chop them by practicing this. 25. Invite the immortals: This depends on your character, and of course your strength, to invite the immortals to help you! 26. Chasing the soul: You can see the soul and track it. 27. Capturing the soul: You can find the soul and eat the soul. 28. Summoning the cloud: Summoning the cloud. 29. Take the moon: Take the moon with one hand. 30. Transport: Can quickly transport things from one place to another, like pushing mountains and filling the sea. 31. Marry a dream: A kind of illusion. Let the other party fall into a nightmare and mentally destroy the other party. 32. Disintegrate: Can separate various parts of the body without any damage. This is why Sun Wukong cannot be killed. 33. Send the stick: Can send the hit of the stick to another object to escape the pain. 34. Stop the flow: Stop the flow of rivers. Sun Wukong used this method to help Tang Seng cross the river. 35. Avert disasters: Use magic to eliminate the disasters faced. 36. Relieve disasters: Rescue dangers. 37. Huangbai: The so-called magic of the sorcerer to turn elixir into gold and silver. 38. Swordsmanship: The method and technique of using a sword. Therefore, most Taoist weapons are swords. 39. Shooting covers: Divination and guessing objects. 40. Earth movement: moving freely in the earth. 41. Star number: being able to observe the stars at night and know one's destiny. 42. Formation: various barriers and formations to trap the enemy. In the third fight with the White Bone Demon, Sun Wukong drew a circle on the spot for Tang Seng. The White Bone Demon turned into a girl, but could not come forward. This circle is the formation. 43. False form: the art of transformation, one of Sun Wukong's most commonly used moves, and he used it to the extreme. 44. Spraying: using magic to point at an object and make it change. 45. Finger transformation: using a finger to change something. 46. Corpse transformation: after Taoists attain the Tao, they can abandon their bodies and become immortals, or leave behind a body and only pretend to be an object (such as clothes, staff, sword) and ascend to heaven. 47. Scenery shifting: a trick, also known as illusion. 48. Summon: being able to summon something by remote control. In Journey to the West, there is an episode where the king wanted to capture the four masters and apprentices pretending to be merchants. After the misunderstanding was resolved, the clothes and boxes used for pretending flew back to their original positions by themselves. This is what they used. 49. Erqu: can make items return. 50. Gathering beasts: various wild beasts can obey your orders. Sun Wukong tamed the celestial horses with this. 51. Adjusting birds: can tame various birds. 52. Qi ban: can not breathe air. 53. Dali: infinite strength. It is powerful enough to be able to play Dinghai Shenzhen. 54. Penetrating stones: can pass through stones. It is more unobstructed when walking on the earth. 55. Shengguang: eyes can emit strong light. 56. Zhanfu: practice inner alchemy. 57. Daoyin: "Dao" refers to "guiding qi", guiding qi makes it harmonious; "Yin" refers to "leading the body", leading the body makes it soft. 58. Taking food: Anything can be swallowed and it is beneficial and harmless. 59. Breaking the wall: Can pass through the wall. 60. Leaping the rock: Can jump high and long. 61. Cute head: Grow a new head. 62. Climbing the copy: Quickly grab something. 63. Drinking water: Drinking as much water as you want is fine. If Jingwei knew this, she wouldn't have to fill the sea. 64. Lying in the snow: Lying in the snow. 65. Exposing to the sun: Can be exposed to the sun. 66. Playing with pills: Nine out of ten are doctors. In Journey to the West, there are several episodes where Sun Wukong can cure diseases, diagnose pulses with a thread, prescribe medicine, and play with pills. 67. Talisman water: Draw or burn talismans in water, and drink it to cure diseases. 68. Medicine: Chinese and Western medicine and surgical operations. 69. Knowing time: Equivalent to having your own watch or clock. 70. Geospatial knowledge: You can also bring your own maps and pointers. 71. Fasting: Don’t be afraid of not eating or drinking. 72. This game happens after the events in the novel Journey To The West - a Chinese novel written in the 16th Century. In the novel, Wukong was a monkey born from a magical stone. At the beginning of the Universe, Nuwa ( the Goddess of Creation ) used her power to create all lives in the Universe. One day, a great flood occurred on the earth. The water came from the sky (consistent with the world-destroying flood in Greek mythology). As the mother of the human race, Nuwa’s mother contributed her own Life collected colorful stones to mend the sky, and Sun Wukong's stone was one of the excess stones.

★ This is the story of what happened at the end of chapter one: • It is said that long, long ago, a young novice monk wandered deep into the forest and unexpectedly encountered a colossal Black Bear Guai. Yet, contrary to expectations, the bear did not devour the monk but instead gifted him a sack filled with gold and silver. The bear then guided the novice to a secluded temple at the foot of the mountain. • From a young child, the novice diligently cultivated his practice and eventually became the revered abbot, leading hundreds of monks. He developed a profound passion for collecting kasayas (Buddhist robes), accumulating and wearing countless robes until he believed no other could possibly pique his interest. • One day, the abbot met Tang Sanzang, the master of Sun Wukong. Enchanted by Tang Sanzang's exquisite kasaya, the abbot borrowed it. Influenced by the cunning schemes of Guangzhi and Guangmou to steal the kasaya and burn Tang Sanzang's quarters, the abbot's long-dormant desires resurfaced. Consumed by greed, he set fire to the temple, causing the deaths of countless monks. The precious kasaya, however, fell into the hands of Black Bear Guai. Overwhelmed by grief and remorse, the abbot struck his head against a wall, ending his life. • Despite years of cultivation under the guidance of the Bodhisattva Guan Yin, Black Bear Guai remained perplexed. Why had the young novice resisted the allure of wealth yet succumbed to the temptation of a mere kasaya? • The Bodhisattva Guan Yin smiled and replied, "Without that kasaya, how could sentient beings discern whether their attachments and desires to the mundane world had truly been severed?

So hear me out, I think the game journalists are baiting us. Their engagement has been so low in the past years, so they're doing the opposite now. They praise a bad game, and criticize a good one. This way, we engage more actively, just to tell them how wrong they are. It's just like in Stack-overflow. Asking a question won't get you a lot of responses, but post a wrong answer and there'd be a bunch of people telling you how wrong you are while giving you the right answer. Yup, life hacks. :)

Japanese pronunciation of 孙悟空 is Son Goku, Mandarin pronunciation of 孙悟空 is Sun Wukong. To Anyone who knows Chinese characters, they're the same. The famous Japanese cartoonist Akira Toriyama borrowed some character settings and plots from the great novel "Journey to the West (which is India where Buddhism was founded)" completed by the Chinese writer Wu Cheng'en in the 16th century to create the equally great "Dragon Ball" comics. Generally speaking, the plot of "Dragon Ball" has little to do with "Journey to the West", which is a novel with a strong Buddhist and Taoist color.

I really look forward to Game Science making their stories into games in the future. It will definitely be very exciting, and the story will be very meaningful, because these three characters have all resisted power, but were ultimately helpless. About that part of black bear guai’s lore, I want explain based on what I understand: Black bear guai was just a little monk, he tries to capture a frog in the middle of the night, that shows his inner violence, and then he encounter Black bear guai whom offer him a bag of jewelries, The frog jumped into the hands of a dead person, which means that someone died in this forest, maybe a traveler or a passing caravan. The black bear did not actually exist, it was the embodiment of his inner greed. As he grew older, he became a powerful monk, but his greed did not subside. The robe that monks wear is called a kasaya(袈裟), which is a very important and precious item for monks, and Black bear guai has a fetish of collecting them(according to the original novel). Later we see a monk give him a robe,that monk is sanzang(sanzang), shifu of wukong, and he didn’t give Black bear guai the robe, Black bear actually stole it from Sanzang in the original novel. And we can see he is obsessed with the robe, hi cover himself with it, dream of becoming a great monk like sanzang, His greed and jealousy were like a raging fire, burning out his inner faith and burning down his temple. He, too, changed from a monk to the Black bear guai

At the beginning I thought that the paths were very limited and the game wasn't going to be particularly good. It was only from chapters 2-3 that I realized how much effort went into the story and it's crazy that there are still games like this where a game works completely bug-free. If a lot of things are good in a skill tree and you have to weigh them up, then you know that the developers have put some thought into it. The only sad thing is the reviews that don't appreciate a great game for gamers because it comes from China...

There are so many bosses that are hidden or triggered by a special way or a special item. Watch out what NPCs say, it may be a hint. Chapter 1 has at least two hidden bosses, Chapter has at least 3 hidden bosses... Note, these hidden bosses loot the key item that will help you defeat the final boss easily in each chapter.

Which was true for both Elden Ring and RDR2, and had been true since Skyrim, the actual game that created the open world trending where everything after it need to be open world instead of just some selected few. The intro of Wukong where the camera being tight in closed space only to open up to a vast area, with giant boss figure in the back and main character having to look up to that giant with close up camera, was a scaling trick that was used many times before in game. Especially popular in game like God of War/Asura Wrath/Vanquish or even Bayonetta. Hell the intro of God of War 3 leading to Poseidon reveal, was set up exactly like Wukong intro. All those games were linear, so with camera trick it was able to reveal how puny you were against god like being so big. And overcoming such godlike being while being so small feel goods. Those kind of game was popular during 2010s, these days not many games do that. The big circling epic fight shot was great, but it's also a very eastern aesthetic thing that's been done a million times in anime already. It's a long action shot, but all that happens is the two characters circle each other in a circle with one being super close to camera and the other far behind, which combined with the very wide cheater FOV lens makes the shot look super dynamic. So it's a repetitive, super mega cheated non realistic shot even though the characters are rendered with very realistic visuals. It looks cool yes, but "western" aesthetics have tended to try and be more "realistic" in their approach to physics, and try to have a bit more storytelling rather than just "repeat dynamic shots for the sake of being dynamic alone". That may feel like "western isnt as cool", but that's also not the goal. It's easy to make something dynamic and cool, it's less easy to have good story + good physics + still be cool. I don't see how the 2nd shot is "innovative". It's a regular "camera pans to track something on the ground" type of shot, I'd even call it slightly jarring for several reasons, we go from an axe moving mostly level with the horizon to it dropping vertically instead and then immediately stopping, when we're above clouds and don't know what how far up we are in the sky ( was there a mountain ground under us this whole time? do clouds stop metal axes now?). When the camera pans, the pan is late, and the Z roll is very slow to level out, and the clouds have very little texture to them. So the timing is weird, the pan is hard to understand what we're looking at, and it takes too long to understand we're looking at mountains at the end of the shot. So it's not a new shot type and it's hard to read. The cinematic overall was pretty great, but it was largely over-the top anime style eye candy, which are a specific style.

In short the opening was the story of the great battle between the Heavens and Monkey King (Chinese Opera even has a great play about it). The 3 eye guy and his dog was one of the generals. The battle ended with the Monkey King defeated (not story accurate). The Monkey King was pissed because he promised Buddha he will escort the Great Monk to the West to obtain an important Buddhist scripture, he did that and was awarded. But the story in the game was, the Heavens wanted him to do more and wanted to destroy his home (Flower Fruit Mountain) where his monkey buddies and family live peacefully. That is why he was so pissed. The golden head piece that appeared and caused him great pain was a device given to the Great Monk at the beginning of the Journey to the West as a device to control the Monkey King. The rock was based on the legend that the Monkey King is special because he was born from a rock and I guess they wanted to tied that with his origin. The main character we control was not the Monkey King but the chosen one to retrieve the Monkey King remains. And yes, the great Dragon Ball was inspired by the Journey to the West, and Goku was based on this character Wukong.

After Jinchi tries to burn Tang Sanzang and steal his valuable kasaya, Sun Wukong intervenes, saving Tang Sanzang and setting the temple on fire. The Black Bear, seeing the flames, rushes to help but instead steals the kasaya, a prized Buddhist treasure. The Black Bear plans to host a "Buddha Robe Banquet" with other Yaoguai, but Sun Wukong, disguised as Jinchi, infiltrates his cave. After a series of battles between Sun Wukong and the Black Bear, Guanyin Bodhisattva intervenes. Guanyin eventually convinces the Black Bear to convert to Buddhism, and he is ordained as a guardian deity on Mount Luojia." This short animation extends the story from the perspective of Jinchi. As a child, Jinchi befriends the Black Bear, and the two bond over their shared greed for treasures, with Jinchi particularly desiring the Kasaya. When they see Tang Sanzang's Kasaya, both are greedy, want to own the treasure, which leads to the end, Jinchi loses his life.

Weapon: Ruyi Golden Hoop Rod (Sea God Needle) Sun Wukong (also known as the Monkey King, the Monkey King, the Monkey King, the Monkey King, and the Fighting Buddha) is a character in the classical Chinese mythological novel "Journey to the West". Born from the creation of immortal stones, the birthplace is located on Huaguo Mountain in Dongsheng Shenzhou. He is revered as the "Monkey King" for leading a group of monkeys into the Water Curtain Cave. In order to learn the art, he crossed the sea and became a disciple of the founder of Subhuti, named "Sun Wukong". He learned advanced spells such as the Great Immortal Technique, the Seventy Two Transformations, and the Cloud Dance. Sun Wukong, who had just left the army, did not receive any weapons. He obtained the Ruyi Golden Hoop, Phoenix Wings Purple Golden Crown, Lock Gold Armor, Lotus Silk Step Cloud Shoes from the Four Seas Dragon Kings. Later, he caused a stir in the underworld and removed the Book of Life and Death, which alarmed the heavens. He was then summoned by the Jade Emperor and granted the title of Bi Ma Wen. After learning of his lowly position, he angrily returned to Huaguo Mountain and defeated the attacks of Li Tianwang and Nezha, forcing the Jade Emperor to appoint him as the Great Sage of Qi Tian and build a mansion in the Heavenly Palace to manage the Peach Garden. Due to disrupting the Peach Blossom Festival of the Queen Mother and stealing the Golden Elixir of the Supreme Emperor, he was refined into a golden body and smoked into a fiery golden eye in the Eight Trigrams Furnace of the Supreme Emperor. Afterwards, he caused a great commotion in the Heavenly Palace. Despite being surrounded by 100000 heavenly soldiers, generals, four heavenly kings, and twenty-eight constellations, he was unable to defeat him. Later, he lost in a bet battle with the Buddha and was forced to repent and reform himself at the foot of the Five Elements Mountain transformed by the Buddha's five fingers. More than five hundred years later, after being enlightened by Guanyin, he was rescued by Tang Sanzang and given the Dharma name "Xingren". He protected Tang Sanzang from traveling to the West to obtain Buddhist scriptures, conquered demons and monsters along the way, fearlessly endured hardships and difficulties, and finally achieved the true result of cultivating the scriptures. He was awarded the title of "Fighting and Overcoming Buddha". Sun Wukong is naturally intelligent, lively, loyal, and resentful of evil, representing wit and bravery in folk culture. The legend of Journey to the West emerged in the Tang Dynasty and continued until the Ming and Qing Dynasties. The collection of these legends in the Ming Dynasty is known as "Journey to the West". In these folk myths of the past dynasties, Sun Wukong was worshipped as a god by the Chinese people.

For those who have time, please take a look at my article. I want to provide some background information about "Sun Wukong," especially since Black Myth: Wukong is an adaptation of Journey to the West. So it's important to understand a bit about Journey to the West. Here's a brief overview to help you understand Sun Wukong's background. Sun Wukong was born from a stone on Flower Fruit Mountain, absorbing the essence of the sun and moon. To protect the monkeys on the mountain, he decided to become a disciple of Master Subhuti. Under his tutelage, Wukong learned the 72 transformations and the ability to travel on clouds with his somersault cloud technique. After mastering these skills, he returned to Flower Fruit Mountain. To find a suitable weapon, he caused chaos in the Dragon Palace, eventually obtaining the Golden-Banded Staff (the weapon he wields). In Eastern culture, Sun Wukong is considered a demon, so he's not necessarily on the side of righteousness. The Heavenly Court tried to appease him by giving him a minor position in charge of horses. However, true to his mischievous nature, Wukong caused chaos in the Heavenly Court (omitting many details here). Of all the Heavenly warriors, only Erlang Shen was barely able to challenge him, but even he couldn't capture Sun Wukong. In the end, it was Buddha who subdued him, trapping him under Five Element Mountain. It was the monk Tang Sanzang who eventually freed him, and the Bodhisattva placed a headband of obedience on him (this explains why Sun Wukong turns into a bird at the start of the game and later experiences headaches). Thus began Sun Wukong's journey to slay demons and retrieve the sacred scriptures. After the journey, he attained the title of Fighting Buddha. Sun Wukong has had a huge influence in Eastern culture. For example, the late author of Dragon Ball drew inspiration from Sun Wukong’s character. He also appears in the game League of Legends. Journey to the West is a common theme in various Eastern films, TV dramas, and novels. If you're interested, I encourage you to check out Journey to the West, and I hope you can find an English version. This was translated using ChatGPT. Thx for watch

It's already very good as a debut I think the disadvantage of this game is that it doesn't have a Y-axis and an underwater world There are a lot of plots in the underwater world in the original Journey to the West, such as the Dragon Palace of the East Sea where the Golden cudgel is hidden, which is a pity. Looking forward to the next game in the Black Myth series

True. It would be awesome to have a chapter for the underwater part. But I assume it’s way too much work on devs shoulders as the movement captures and designs in the water are very different from on the ground.

Animation lock happens when you just spam attack. You have to look for openings and anticipate attacks. Attack slowly with the combos. Leave room for dodges when necessary. Definitely unlock the skill that lets you keep combos through dodging. . Keep your eyes on the boss at all times.

In fact the character archetype of the Monkey King comes from an even older Chinese legend; in ancient China there were two rivers that ran into the sea, one of which was the Huai River. Many of the Monkey King's archetypes, abilities, and stories originated from the water god of the Huai Woe, Wu Zhi Qi. Wu Zhi Qi is a water monster in Chinese mythology. He is ape-like in shape, with a collapsed nose, convex forehead, white head and green body, and fiery eyes. His head and neck were up to 100 feet long, and his strength exceeded that of nine elephants. He often made waves in the Huai River, endangering the people. When Dayu was ruling the water, Wu Zhi Qi, in order to prevent him from controlling the floods, led more than 100,000 mountain spirits and water monsters to fight against King Yu in Huaiyuan, so the floods in the Huai and Eddy water systems could never be solved. Just when Yu was at a loss for what to do, the god Yinglong descended to the earth and pressed Wu Zhiqi under the Turtle Mountain, assisting Yu to successfully manage the flooding, and only then did the Huai River flow calmly into the East China Sea. He was later appropriated by Wu Cheng En into Journey to the West and became the popular Sun Wukong, the Great Sage of Qi Tian Da Sheng who wreaked havoc in the Heavenly Palace.
For those who doesn’t know. Wukongs headache is from enchanted the headband Bodhisattva gave him. Its to control his temper. Its the only thing holding him back from anything.

Finally someone knows it was a bodhisattva which is reason wukong has the headpiece on and not Buddha
