Ultimately it feels like Blizzard might be hampered by the design of their game being bad on a fundamental level, i.e. low modularity and customisation options. The entire way the game works and is built is inherently awful and limiting. Look D4 is a mess in a lot of aspects but this isn’t accurate. Their monetization for the cosmetic shop is a scam, but it’s JUST cosmetics. PoE makes you pay cash for inventory and stash slots. D4 gives out free cosmetics and even though their stash is busted to hell, they’re not charging extra when they get their head out of their asses long enough to increase the size of it.

@@obitum The difference is that D4 is a fully priced game whilst PoE is free (though I view it as more like a ~20 dollar game in stash tabs from stash tab sale, which happen about every three weeks.) If PoE tried to get all of their income just from supporter packs and cosmetics I doubt they'd make nearly as much money so they kinda have to have *something* that people want/need to pay for on top of those and they could've gone in waaaay worse direction with that decision than they did.

Path of Exile isn’t a seamless open world. It has loaded instances. That’s the difference. Your stash in PoE is behind an instance that is loaded solely for the town. So they can do whatever they want because the rest of the game isn’t being loaded at the same time. You leave town to go to an area and it loads a new instance that is only you and your party if applicable. D4 is an open world with hundreds of moving parts that are constantly checked. It can’t be compared.

You clearly have not followed PoE in the last years. Every second league comes with major updates and mechanics shakeups like this. Go watch some of the earlier big league release videos they are very similar in terms of scope. Of course some bigger, some smaller, I rate this a 7/10 in terms of how much it changes compared to big past updates. Just from the top of my head Updates I remember: - the "Oh here are 6 new Acts for you"-Update (from 4 to 10 acts) - the "Oh you like Endgame? Yeah here is a whole new Endgame System + 8 Bosses"-Update - the "Yeah Spells are kinda weak right now - lets completely change everything about Spells and add a bunch of active and support gems"-Update (pretty similar to what is done in this Update with Melee btw) - the "Oh you like Classes? Multiply that by 3 and give them crazy unique powers"-Update - the "We now know you like Endgame and Skilltrees so lets make a Skilltree the same size as the Character Skilltree to customize your Endgame"-Update - the "Hey we really like Skills but we want to make some variations of them so lets effectively double or triple the amount of active skills you can use?"-Update They said PoE 1 will continue and they already have the teams split and league schedules will be staggered with PoE 2. The update here is done just by the PoE 1 team alone, that will stay the PoE 1 team while the PoE 2 team was working on PoE 2 and will keep working on PoE 2. If I trust one company to tell the truth, after many years of experiencing how they handle shit, it is GGG. They are in contact with the community, make big risky changes and do make mistakes but never lie and always course correct to make the game better.

They would not lie like that - at least I choose to believe they wouldn't (and they never have so far). If they would not say anything about it sure I would be concerned but they get asked this all the time and everytime take their time to explain it again. PoE 1 and 2 target very (well not very but slightly) different players. I know a lot of people who love PoE 1 and dislike a lot they see from PoE 2 and the other way around. And that is why they made a second game in the first place instead of (as they first had planned) slowly updating PoE 1 into "PoE 2". The games are not as much of a competition to each other as a lof of people make it seem.
