Most cities have ordinances regarding how close someone can plant or build to the easement. It avoids problems like you have with your neighbor. She’s probably violating some ordinance with her plants being so close to your property. You definitely have the right to trim anything that hangs over into your yard. If she doesn’t like it then she needs to move her plants. I can’t believe she Is unable to see that she is wrong, but then again this is hypothetical.

Yes! So excited for this! Came at such a good time for me as I’ve had a rough morning. Lots of people have been overtly aggressive with me when I’ve done nothing wrong. I was paying at the self checkout in Kmart (a store we have in Australia, and I’m already bummed out because my local Kmart is out of stock of my noise canceling headphones that I needed to exchange cos they broke last night, so I’m already panicked. (I’m autistic and have SPD so I can’t go anywhere publicly without them). Additionally i wasn’t given the correct receipt the last time I went so it was a bit of a hassle to sort that out too, again no fault of my own, and then after checking out at the self checkout, as I was leaving past the other self checkouts this couple barged/shoved into me (this is the second time this has happened) trying to get to the next self checkout thinking I was trying to get to it when in fact I was just trying to leave. Like this is a Kmart I’m not racing you to get to a checkout, I just paid and I’m trying to leave. Kinda overwhelmed after a ‘Karen’ hit my car door this morning too. Thought I’d share my ‘hypothetical’ neighbourhood gossip too 😂🎧

Thing is that how far it was over into your garden was irrelevant, it’s a matter of principle that if it’s on your side in YOUR garden that you own and have paid for then you can do what the hell you like. Maybe this is because I’m British but we have a very strict rule in our neighbourhood (I live in a very similar neighbourhood to the in you described with house on all sides in a grid) that if it’s your plant, then it’s your responsibility to make sure it doesn’t go into your neighbour’s garden or at the very least ask them if it’s okay for it to be overhanging over their fence. It’s just courtesy and if someone were to trim the plant over the fence we wouldn’t bat an eyelid in fact it would be us at fault for letting it go over in the first place. Good to you for showing her what’s what!
