it's nice how respectful you are and i'm happy you mentioned the indigenous population many times as they're constantly forgotten about. for a 40 minute video there's so much info, good job!

I love how your book mentions Manaus a lot, people in Brazil, specially from the south and southeast usually don’t even know much about the region, which is very sad, and the book gives some great information. Great ASMR! Thanks for this video.

32:50 the brazilian pronunciation of the word “recife” (meaning reef) is “heh-see-fee” (the ‘r’ is pronounced like an ‘h’ to me as i am from rio, but people from different regions and states would pronunce it differently, namely the people of the state of pernambuco, where the city of recife is located, would probably have a stronger pronunciation of the ‘r’ coming from the bottom of the throat).

hi! left a comment here a few months back and ended up returning now. 7:03 although, yes, the northeast, especially bahia, has a lot of afro-brazilians, the two states right after bahia in black population are rio and minas both in the southeast. also, "the further south you go the whiter" idea is wrong. the only predominantly white region of brazil's five regions (north, northeast, south, southeast, midwest) is the southern region, because there was stronger european immigration there, especially from the germans and eastern europeans, along with the fact that in the whole of the southern part of south america, the indigenous people were genuinely completely decimated (look at the racial demographics of countries in that region, like argentina and uruguay, the only predominantly white countries of latin america). in terms of racial demographics i'd say it's something like this: - southern region, predominantly white euro-brazilians of mostly german, italian and polish descent. - southeastern region, although a mix of everything because of the sheer amount of population and popularity, i'd be willing to bet most people are either black, or mixed race (half black, half white or something similar) although with a significant white population. - northeastern region, although also very african, some hints of indigenous, especially in the more western zones of the region, with still a significant white population. - northern region, predominantly indigenous. - midwestern region, a lot of the so called "mestizos" (as they say in spanish) meaning mixed indigenous and white heritage, along with a smaller but still considerable black and white population.

Awesome video. Besides from being very relaxing I really learn alot from watching your videos. You know much more about Brazil than me but I know they don’t have any border to Ecuador and Chile and they have never beated Norway in football. We Norwegian love to mention that whenever we hear about Brazil😆 I wish you a nice weekend🥰

Little mistakes here and there but generally accurate, I'd say. One example is that the gold rush attracted overwhelmingly portuguese people (not people from all over the world, but of course slaves were also brought in to work the mines), and most non-portuguese European migration happened a century and a half to two centuries later, during the mid to late 1800s and early 1900s. That immigration was somewhat impactful, particularly in the far south and a few cities, but you are right to say the majority of Brazil's demographics was formed in the colonial period
