We call the metropolitan area around DC the DMV, technically it stands for DC-Maryland-Virginia and it’s almost created a “community” of sorts since the area is so much more urban than the rest of the state area surrounding it.

Few additional details. The city is planned around the Capitol It has quadrants. You must pay attention as to which quadrant. NW, NE, SW, SE. Numbers and letters go out numerically and alphabetically from the Capital. Hence doubles of each. Example. . .There will be 4 5th and C streets. . .so quadrant’s are extremely important. Once the alphabet is used DC uses names but in alphabetical order, single syllable, double syllable, last triple syllable. As you mentioned angle streets are all named for states. Hope this helps.

This was a great video, as usual. I moved to DC 20 years ago and have lived in the District or its suburbs ever since, and I was a tour guide for a while, so I really appreciated this video! Good video. But some things to include in a follow up: 1. All the Smithsonian museums are connected by underground tunnels so technically its the biggest museum in the world. 2. A video like this definitely should include a map of the dc metro train stations. Its an iconic layout. 3. I dont believe you mentioned that dc is also home to the national cathedral and the national archives, where both the original decleration of independence and the original constitution are displayed.

das, was im sinne von jahren im taschenatlas angegeben wird, ist die sogenannte "statute of limitations", was soviel wie "verjährung" heißt. impliziert wird vermutlich, dass die verjährungsfristen in den verschiedenen staaten, sowohl in zivilrechtlichen als auch in bürgerrechtlichen sachen, verschieden sind (oder sein können). grüße aus wisconsin! :)

Great video; as always! But I'd remiss as an American to not mention that "Potomac" is generally pronounced [pə - TOʊ - mək]. The second syllable gets the stress and is pronounced like 'toe' or 'tow.' The other vowels are reduced to a schwa and sound similar to the first vowel in 'pajamas' or 'today.' Like many of the place names derived from indigenous American languages, it's virtually impossible to know how to pronounce them unless you're from the USA. And there are many local place names that Americans from other regions would have NO idea of how to pronounce (e.g. Nesquehoning, a town in Pennsylvania or Wapsipinicon, a river in Minnesota and Iowa).
