For some quick information about the metis. Basically Metis people come from early colonial expansion by the French. The French were not as bad to indigenous peoples of Canada, and some had children with the indigenous peoples. These children, are called the metis, and to be considered indigenous in Canada, you need to be at least 1/8 or 1/16 indigenous to qualify. That means that if 16 generations ago, one of your relatives were indigenous, then you are an indigenous person and get certain privilege's above the population. These rights are granted in penance in for Canada's action in ethic cleansing in the past. Coming from A grade 10 Canadian Highschool Student who took history.
