You know I actually agree with you about the Sylvia Plath book, I think it would be far less revered if she didn't have such an insane life. However, I think her poetry is some of the best from the era and some of the best of all time. I think more people seem to remember The Bell Jar but her poetry, especially 'Daddy' and 'Lady Lazarus' are so much more interesting to me

I just read both poems on your recommendation, they're fantastic. I got chills in Lady Lazarus though when she says "I am only thirty, and like the cat I have nine times to die. This is Number Three." It makes you think that she almost thought she'd survive the attempt she made that year, but as we know, she didn't...

@@catherineeASMR I'm so glad you thought they were fantastic! Especially since they're some of my favorite poems 🥰 Yeah Lady Lazarus is even more tragic with the extra context, it's devastating. imo even without knowing what happened it's painful to read. I think in both of them (and so much of her other poetry) she manages to articulate the pain she's going through in a more subtle way than in the storytelling from The Bell Jar, the devices used in her poetry just works so well
