I hope the "Soft Spoken Library" becomes a regular series on your channel. Your ASMR videos are authentic and never resort to gimmicks; just a pure relaxing experience using real-life scenarios. I have to say your hand technique with the books and pages automatically trigger me to a peaceful sleep. Maybe it's the combination of your accent and subtlety, so, keep doing that, ha. Along with the ASMR, your videos are actually informative considering my lack of literary knowledge. I actually purchased "The Clan of the Cave Bear" and the book by Neil Gaiman. I see so much potential in your library series. Please update your channel more frequently!

StillAtMyMoms Nothing could please me more today than to think I might have influenced someone to check out some art that I like. I do so hope you enjoy the stories you chose! Thanks also ever so kindly for taking the time to put together such detailed feedback, and rest assured I intend to update on a regular basis. There's a new video out today in fact :) And I'm certainly open to the idea of a library series - I have so much to share and if you guys like it, nothing can stop me! Thanks again. x

I'm so happy I found this. I've watched Gentlewhispering's library over and over. I can only be relaxed by soft speaking and page turning. a lot of channels use ear to ear whispering or sexualize things and I don't like it. Also great suggestions for a variety of books

That's so weird! "Clan of the Cave Bear" is a book I haven't heard mention of since I was a kid and there was some big deal about it being in my school's library (I never read it). But just yesterday, it popped into my mind for no apparent reason and I thought I might like to read it some day. And here I am on your channel and I hear mention of it for the first time in almost 20 years :o

Love it!! Fantastic video and great book choices. I actually read the Clan of the Cave Bear but I had forgotten the name until you described it, I was surprised when I realized I knew which book you were talking about lol. I've always wanted to read Dune, I like Margaret Atwood, and I've actually already bought American Gods but haven't picked it up yet. Pride and Prejudice is of course a wonderful classic that I fell in love with in college, and Phillip Pullman is one of my absolute favorite authors, I love the way he writes. Can you tell I love reading haha anyway fantastic job, love this video, and thank you!

Hi! I truthfully enjoyed this video. I'm part of the Booktube community, so I love everything book related. I've also been watching ASMR videos for a couple of years now, I really enjoy them. I love ASMR videos that include books, and I've seen a few that I like, but this is the first time that I see a video that combines what I love from an ASMR and a Booktube video :) I would love if you could make more videos like these, where we can relax and learn about books, the perfect combination :) I will definitely check out some of the books you mentioned. Dune, American Gods and Northern Lights really caught my attention. Hope you have a beautiful day! Greetings from Argentina! :)

I am a voyeur of other people's libraries and book collections. A serious voyeur. When we are absorbed by a book we enter another realm. Absorption in a great novel is almost like a trance and you can get reading ASMR. I got tingles on the back of my neck, under my ear lobes, from some novels, an otherworldly delicate vibe, but maybe it was the circumstance I was in reading, on an idyliic day, or reading in a quiet old pub with a real fire in the corner. But the intensity from an absorbing novel is something that is unique. For example I got tingles and feelings of sublimity whilst reading Norwegian Wood by Murakami one London summer, reading as night fell in all sorts of ASMR mellow places. But the love story, the melancholy, everything combined to get that feeling.
@FantasyASMR
@FantasyASMR 8 жыл бұрын
+Jay Paul How evocative! I love this image - of getting ASMR from the calm zenlike quality one can enter when entering a book. There certainly is something about reading a good book that is fully absorbing - almost addictive. I wish you many more happy such experiences in the future!

As soon as you mentioned Atwood I couldn't help but recall how she described the inhabitants of Toronto Island. Something along the lines of "hippy, wife-swapping sybarites" lol. Toronto (including the islands) was featured in a few of her works and happens to be one of my favourite places to hang out at. Also, Clan Of The Cave Bear was epic.
@FantasyASMR
@FantasyASMR 8 жыл бұрын
Oh yes! Her depiction of the island inhabitants in The Robber Bride is beautifully savage. You can see how that kind of lifestyle can turn in on itself but at the same time is a weirdly effective utopia. So good. It sounds like my kinda place though, so... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I love your ASMR Library series and had seen the more recent installments, but hadn't watched this one and came back to it (hence the late comment) I just wondered if you knew that Year of the Flood was the 2nd book in a trilogy? The first book, Oryx and Crake, is quite beautiful, and it also explains the origin of the "flood" from a very different perspective. I haven't read the 3rd book yet but I'm looking forward to it! Great recommendations as usual!

Well, I've read "Clan of the Cave Bear" and definitely agree with your review. It is the first of a series, but, sadly, some of the later books don't keep up the pace and interest that "Clan" does. I am now going to look to get "The Year of the Flood" - so thanks for the recommendation.

Royal Fool I totalLy agree! It goes from spanning about 12 years of Ayla's life in one book, to taking 300 pages just to describe like six months. I actually haven't read the final book because I lost patience, but I maintain the first two or three are really excellent. Glad you're going to check out Atwood!

FantasyASMR Like you, although I've got it, I've not read the last one. I will possibly re-read them again some day (I rarely get rid of books). But there are so many great books out there to read, I don't want to waste my time. At the moment I am reading the "Inspector Morse" series by Colin Dexter. Years ago I saw some the TV adaptations with John Thaw, but wanted to read the books. If you like Fantasy (I see you mention Dune) then may I suggest the "Farseer" trilogy ("Assassin's Apprentice", "Royal Assassin" and "Assassin's Quest") by Robin Hobb. Or the "Liveship Traders" trilogy ("Ship of Magic", "The Mad Ship" and "Ship of Destiny") also by Robin Hobb.
@FantasyASMR
@FantasyASMR 9 жыл бұрын
Royal Fool Way ahead of you - I've read Robin Hobb's magnificent works ;) The funny thing is though, I read a friend's copies, so I don't have any here in my library, hence the lack of recommendation though I utterly adored them! It seems as though we have the same tastes -- I will happily take further recommendations if you have any!
@ashleyp.4932
@ashleyp.4932 9 жыл бұрын
FantasyASMR To be honest, not a great deal more on fantasy fiction. Other than Robin Hobb I often start them and find I get bored. Robin has been the one fantasy author to have kept my attention throughout. However, one other author I did enjoy was J V Jones and her "Books of Words" trilogy ("The Baker's Boy", "A Man Betrayed" and "Master and Fool"). Having said about getting bored, I think it depends *when* I read the books. Sometimes I'm not in the right mood and it can be weeks, months or even years, before I read them and then thoroughly enjoy them. A lot of my recent reading (last five or six years or so) has been Irish fiction and authors. So John B. Keane, Ken Bruen, Declan Hughes, John Galvin (sadly only did two novels) and (John Banville writing as) Benjamin Black. I love Irish fiction, both for the stories themselves, but also enjoy it if they are set in places I've been to (and spotting the mistakes especially if set round central Dublin which I do know quite well). Another couple of books I've just read recently are "Devil Wears Prada" and the follow-up "Revenge Wears Prada". Both excellent books, and if you've seen the film of "Devil..." then the book is almost a completely different story. For example, In the book, "Nate" is called "Alex" and he's a teacher, not a chef, Andy apartment-shares with Lily (who studies Russian, nothing to do with photography), and Nigel is a very minor character (only putting in a couple of appearances). In other words, if you have seen the film then forget pretty much *everything* you know about it if you read the book.

Have you ever read A Canticle for Leibowitz by Walter M. Miller Jr.? Thanks for the recommendation for The Clan of the Cave Bear. I actually conceived of an idea for a screenplay that involves both groups at the centre of that story. I'll need to read it. Have you read any comics or graphic novels? The Invisibles Omnibus by Grant Morrison is an impressive work of occult fiction. I think you'd enjoy The Hero with a Thousand Faces by Joseph Campbell, assuming you haven't already read it. I read His Dark Materials when I was roughly the same age as you were when you first encountered them. Think most of the allegory and subtext in Pullman's novels would go over the heads of most children. I enjoyed all of the books in the series. Some imaginative worlds chock-full of quirky flora and fauna.

+ThisDyingEarth I haven't read any of those you mention actually, so thanks so much for the recommendations! And yes I agree, His Dark Materials is not really a children's story but I like that the protagonists are nonetheless children. Sometimes stories for adults are much better told that way.

+FantasyASMR Are you a princess? Seriously, you look and sound regal! I see you've got The Master & Margarita on your bookshelf. Struggled to get into it when I tried reading it back in 2013. Meant to be a classic though so need to give it another bash. Did you enjoy it? Can recommend a gripping read from my neck of the woods - Peter May's The Lewis Trilogy. About a detective reconnecting with his past on the island he left behind in his teens at his first opportunity to do so, and for reasons that he's seemingly forgotten/buried in the intervening years. Here's a link with some reviews of the first novel in the trilogy... www.amazon.co.uk/Blackhouse-Book-One-Lewis-Trilogy/dp/1849163863/ref=pd_bxgy_14_img_3?ie=UTF8&refRID=Q5HB8NK7TN9FYP68D26T Do you enjoy films as much as you do books? Perhaps you could make a video sharing/talking about your favourite films?

+ThisDyingEarth To be honest, I struggled a little with the Master & Margarita too, I think because I read it a little too young and didn't understand a lot of the relevant historical context. I think that's the key thing with that book; you have to understand: a) Dante; b) the Bible; and c) Russian modern history. So, just a small ask ... I do enjoy films! Nowhere near as much as books, but I could definitely talk about some! Thanks for the book recommendations :)

LOLZ, interesting idea, so what would be the appropriate proportion of sex to books? At what number would 50 Shades of Grey be on the table? Asking for a friend.
