I was a school librarian -- I love the smell of books, the sounds they make when people turn pages and the crinkly book covers. The joy is that the library is quiet, so you can hear all these fabulous sounds. Thank You for this video -- it was a delight.

I was pleasantly surprised with how quiet this version was. Sometimes no talking videos can pick up more background sounds (not necessarily a bad thing). Whatever you did differently in editing (if you did) to keep the lively background "noise" out and the lovely book handling/page turning as the main focus of the video, 👏👏👏. Please let Abigail know that she's a natural and that your subs enjoyed her participation in the video! Her jacket also made a nice swishing sound every so often, too. Lovely collaboration ladies! 😊

At 45:10 I heard such loud voices! I cringed even as I left it in during editing. But I just didn’t want to edit too much out. So many different ways to interpret sound. So many listening tools and devices. Who really knows how something will go over? I just took a chance. But honestly?…I was pretty frustrated with our library and it’s employees and it’s methods. What has happened to the traditional quiet library? Anyway, I digress. Thank you for your thoughtful opinion of the sound. I also appreciate your support for Abigail’s contribution. I too, loved the wispy jacket sounds. You are truly a pleasure to hear from. P.S. LOTS of editing. Simply splicing out a million obnoxious voices and sounds. And that was a quiet day. 😂😂😂

@@RebeccasBeautifulASMRAddiction I remember the talking toward the end but it didn't really bother me. Our local libraries are still pretty strict about whispering/no loud talking. I participated in some Christmas caroling one year and the library was our first stop. They knew we were coming and we had to sing in a specific area. So I guess there are exceptions. 😄

It just occurs to me. Perhaps one of the most beautiful ASMR experiences is the resonance of the human heart softly beating. What the baby in gestation hears, so intimately and continuously. What we never hear again, after birth, that closely, all the time. To the baby, that heart beat is breath. The bond between a loving mother and child, there's nothing like it, is there? And something that lives forever. 💕

When I was in elementary as school, the teachers would bring us kids to the library, for storytime where our parents, would pick us up. Then at night when she would tuck me & my little cousin, in bed she would read to us. My cousin never made it thru even the 1st part of the story, and even I was drifting off myself. i work in a library at the moment, it's right next to a school so most of the time there are students (aged 6-16) making noise. but then there are the quiet moments, when the kids are at lessons, or in the evening when there's just the older people reading magazines. i love my job but sometimes i miss the time when libraries were actually quiet and peaceful

I THANK YOU SO MUCH! This is such great confirmation of my thoughts and feelings. Do you have any theories as to why the library has morphed over the years?
@littleblackinkdrop312 жыл бұрын
@@RebeccasBeautifulASMRAddiction I work in a library myself and I wanted to give my ideas on this, and on what I hear a lot around me as well. This is going to be very long, I'm sorry in advance, but I have a lot of thoughts about it since it's my work field and I feel a deep passion for libraries haha :D I don't know how it is in the USA, but here in Belgium, the main function of libraries has changed. Instead of a library being a place where you mainly can lend books, it's now seen as a meeting/ community place where people ideally come together and meet. A place where people can learn from each other. Where they can listen, talk, in a world of polarisation. A place that is also (in my eyes) the most democratic institution: everyone can come in, it doesn't matter who you are, it doesn't matter what your background is, what your financial situation is: everyone is welcome. In my library, everything is free: you don't have to pay to become a member and all of the activities we organise, for children and adults, are completely free to make it as democratic as possible. And that makes it, ideally, a place where people from different backgrounds can meet and learn. (This is very nice theoretically, but to make this happen in reality is hard) So the silent library is kind of gone, except for the real small libraries. Books always will have their place in a library of course, but the "meeting" function of a library has become way bigger. There is a lot of stuff you can do over here: we have piano on which people can practise (with headphones tho :D), every Friday people with smartphone/ laptop/ digital problems can come over and we help them out, we do a lot of workshops for children and workshops about important . Some of these activities are really quite in the middle of the library. With Halloween I organised an activity where I read aloud a book about about a skeleton that wanted to fly and then the childron could make their own parachute and a spider to hang on it, and then they could go to the first floor and throw it down, that created quite a mess and noise, but it was a lot of fun. Once a month children can also play with small robots in the library. Even small concerts are possible in libraries overhere. We also have a fabrication laboratory where people can come and make stuff: t-shirts, badges, stopmotion movies,... We also have a huge green screen that we sometimes use. Libraries have changed a lot and this also has to do with finding a way to survive in these times and trying to keep being important in digital times. They need to make a difference and with books alone, they won't make it. And I have to say: I also miss the silent libraries. There is something so comforting, relaxing, soothing, about a classic, silent library. That's one of the reasons why I am completely in love with the dark academia style. And I'm just a real old fashioned person :') But eventhough I have mixed feelings, I'm also convinced about the goals of current libraries (at least in my country), eventhough it took me some time. The thing is: finding silent places is also getting more difficult and difficult in these times. And that's why silence is so valuable. We also need it. There is one real silent place in our library: the newspaper/ magazine corner. I often sit at an information desk overthere and I love that, because it has something comforting to sit close to all those silent people who are reading and hearing the page flipping :) It always makes me feel content and satisfied, and I feel like I'm guarding the only silent place in the library and watching over it :') I'm sorry again for my long message, when I'm passionate about something, I need to talk about it haha :'D

Thank you Britt! I truly appreciate your comment! I totally understand now what is happening. I am pretty sure it’s the same here too. I have a new appreciation for the circumstances that libraries face now. We live in the world of technology and so it’s imperative that the library world keep up. And yet, how sad. I will just keep trying to film at the library at the quietest times so we can remember the old days. Again, thank you for your thoughtful and comprehensive comment. P.S. I crave absolute silence and it is almost nonexistent. Especially where I live. But I don’t have to drive far to find it. I think I will go again soon.
@kuura372 жыл бұрын
@@littleblackinkdrop31 I'm from Finland and it's basically the same as how you described it, the library is not that much about books anymore as it is a meeting place for people. there are of course people that come to borrow books and read magazines, but very often people come to study or just hang out there. our library is pretty small, so there aren't separate spaces for magazines etc. and the sound carries from one corner to another. also the younger kids hang out in the library after school and i think since the library is in the same building as the school, they see it as kind of a continuation of the school and not as a separate space where different rules would apply. I've heard that students say they come to the library between lessons because it's a quiet place, but it's kind of ironic since they are the ones making the noise so it's not quiet 😅 but of course we welcome everyone!
