DAMN!!! That’s the deal with Mormont’s raven. It has a Child of the Forest’s spirit inside it. Brilliant!! I always did feel like Mormont’s raven was trying to warn and guide Jon, this explains that intelligence. But what is the raven trying to do beyond just spying? What agenda individually drives that ravens actions, because it certainly seems to interact often. And when the raven said Jon Snow’s full name, was that the Child or did Bran maybe slip the raven’s skin for some reason at that moment? Or was Blood Raven warging Mormont’s raven?? CAN OF WORMS! Another great video man,,, i like how you connect the ravens to bloodraven's extended life possibly making up for the long dead cotf being in bird of short life span, but also i tought of the ravens being used as spy network along with weirwoods by the greenseers like cctv cameras but you mention the raven messaging system and i felt definitely grrm wants our attention drawn to these birds carrying info but they obviously cant open and read the notes so how cud this aid the ones controlling them

@@mykael2012 He isn't, but he is certainly a good example of how western cultures sees ravens as symbols of bad luck, ill omens, death and even evil. In Germany they represent the souls of the damned and even the devil himself, in Sweden they represent the souls of murdered people. Odin was a god of death and his ravens Hugin and Munin flew around the earth collecting people's thoughts and memories. And I think it's pretty obvious that it was some these particular myths and legends that inspired GRRM's depiction of ravens. The parallels are there, especially if this theory turns out to be true. Moreover, in Danish folklore, valravns were ravens that ate the hearts of kings and as a consequence gained human knowledge and power but were also evil. Ravn is the danish word for raven (I pretty sure), so this myth definitely doesn't refer to crows. And even when ravens are depicted as good they are still sometimes associated with death. Like in the myth of St Vincent of Saragossa, after he died ravens defended his corpse from other animals and after he was buried they kept defending his tomb. Again, we have an association with death even though they're clearly the good guys. It might depend on which culture you look into, but in western europe's folklore they're definitely symbols of bad things. Black cats for instance can both be seen as symbols of bad and good luck, depending on the country .As much I like ravens though, people where I grew up always said they were symbols of bad luck, not that there were many around to be honest.

I had a thought hit me about the Blackwood WW tree. I think first they come at night for a reason. It hit me about Bloodraven WW being a parallel to it. Especially as he is half Blackwood. What if the WW is 'dead' and that word is specifically used. You're right they are not supposed to die. What if the Ravens are the Watchers there or guarding it for what may lie beneath it. Just like Bloodraven was part of the WW. It all symbolic of death it would mirror Bloodraven cave perfect. What or rather who is if so.

crow and ravens are 2 sub species Raven historically associated with prophecy and all those positive things Crow= death(the feast on flesh) though Ravens have also had some negative connotations. Perhaps because they are usually mistake with crows... www.difference.wiki/crow-vs-raven/ they are not the same animal which of course adds further depth to ASOIAF imo. Blood Raven may be good or neutral at worst and the 3 eye crow may be evil and using Bran.
