This video is part 4 of a series containing my theory for the upcoming book in the A Song of Ice and Fire series, The Winds of Winter, surrounding the secret of Winterfell crypts, and ultimately, the key to defending humanity against the coming onslaught of the Others
As we know, the ancient magic the last hero gained from the children of the Forrest was humanities Key to ending the long night, but exactly what magic this was, has been left as a deliberate mystery through the series so far
But after seeing all the resurrected stone Starks in part 1, the resurrected stone nights watch in part 2 and the resurrected stone heroes of part 3, I believe the children of the Forrest sacrificed and resurrected these ancient warriors using the Weirwoods to store their spirits temporarily while their bodies were turned to stone with Greyscale, before slipping back to their stone corpses
Creating a brotherhood of undead stone warriors, who rose again harder and stronger, invulnerable to harm and the cruel effects of winter, who could with stand the heat of a flaming sword and could be preserved as statues for eternity beneath the earth
And in my opinion, the first men were then gifted a magical horn from the children, so it may be sounded when the others return, recalling the spirits from the trees, turning the trees to warriors, and waking these giants in the earth once more
But could the Children have been capable of this magic? Could they have resurrected this first nights watch and turned them into stone men?

Jon's thought "giants in Old Nan’s tales, those huge savage creatures who mixed blood into their morning porridge". Blood porridge evokes Jojen paste and human sacrifice. Also about trees, springs and stones (there are plenty of stones described as black by GRRM in important lines) reminds me of post I read somewhere about symbolism of green, blue and black color combination, Patchface's bubbles line among others.

How did I miss this! Excellent observation! That’s a great potential clue at these giant ancient men as being greenseers! Comment pinned! Also a great catch about the colouring of patchface, I’ll be bringing this exact same thing in my next video as it’s said the colour of the drowned god is green, blue and grey, which aligns perfectly with Forrest (green) stream (water) and stone (grey) I think these are all connected as the religion of the old gods and the religion of the drowned god are actually just worshiping the same god or gods of death Excellent comment! Thanks for supporting the channel!

Honestly, I'm loving this series. Absolutely fascinating. It has me rethinking some things I've started to take for granite (intentional pun). My theory for the first Long Night Hero/proto Stark was Brandon of the Bloody Blade who turned the one Blue Lake Red. I believe he was Bran the Builder's father (and the Lady of that bloody lake was his mother). But that is just the theory I've heard and like from other videos over the years.

I tend to agree with this as well, and I think this makes him Azor ahai too, sacrficing a nissa nissa character, and most likely having a firey sword by implication of the blade being bloody

@@eldric.stoneskin also, if Sansa and Sandor are an item in the future, it would also be a grey eye men with a Tully by blood mermaid (part fish half little bird as the the mermaids from the middle east). Another Stone King inside a sleeping giant: Tormund sleeping inside the Giant during the snow storm! Had this thought since your first video: could Winterfell itself be Bran the Builder? Perhaps all of the great castles he built are sleeping giants? Really love this whole series. Greyscale Starks have been my head canon for a long time. Would love to hear your thoughts about the Rhoynish using Greyscale against the Valyrians and if you think it may extend into the current story (I have a theory video out about Daemon and the Crabfeeder on my channel - would love to chat Greyscale theory with you sometime!)

Absolutely, yeah that’s a great point, I’ll have to reread that chapter, he did survive a symbolic winter by being inside a giant, and I feel like Bran, or the three eyed crow might be inside these stone giants controlling them when the time comes so they can survive winter, so that does make a lot of sense As for the rhoynish and the water associations I’ll be discussing this next video, keen to chat over discord if you’d like?

Great theory, really well put together! 👍 I’ve often toyed around with the idea that the stone kings of Winter in the Crypts are meant to be resurrected but never really figured out how this might work. Here’s a thought on Lyanna’s presence in the crypts: The Stark kings and lords seem to form an unbroken line of lineage. Even those who perished far from home receive statues. Perhaps the horn-blower or person to lead the resurrected Starks must be a direct descendant of the last ancestors put to rest in the crypts, usually sons. Ned has a statue, but his main heir is dead and his other children are not likely to join the kings anytime soon, neither is it likely that any of them will be hornblowers. Recall also how Theon prevented the miller’s boys from being buried in the crypts. This would have completely messed things up. Jon is thus the only available immediate offspring of those in the crypts. Perhaps it’s not a matter of being a king or lord, rather that the lineage remains unbroken, which would fit in with there always being a Stark in Winterfell. Jon is Lyanna’s son. We expect him to retake Winterfell and he is the one most likely to lead the stone army in the battle for the dawn.
@eldric.stoneskin
@eldric.stoneskin 11 ай бұрын
Thanks very much! I think your right about the unbroken line from the first Stark to the last, and I think there’s two options Jon as you’ve said with some great points, and the other possibility is Bran, and the reason is because we actually see him go back and taste the blood of the first Stark, suggesting a connection, perhaps this first Stark is the three eyed crow, and now lives in bran, maybe to return to his original stone body in Winterfell, I’m going to go into this a bit more in part 6 but I think this is why it’s so crucial for Ned’s bones to be returned, so this link can work, it’s a bit more speculative than my other videos but should be a bit of fun Thanks for watching!

Owain Glyn Dŵr was a Welsh prince who specialized in guerilla tactics and fought the English in an attempt to free his people under the Rule of The English king Richard II. Apparently he disappeared and it spawned a legend that he would rise up again when Wales needed him most. Sure his grave seems to have been found, but a good sleeping hero legend is still worth a mention.

Yeah I think your spot on, I think Bran wakes the stone giants potentially skin changing them to fight the Others while he sits in the gods wood, hence why he essentially did nothing in the HBO season 8 show, and I think some the foreshadowing for this is him skinchanging Hodor, this is basically what part 6 is all about, excellent comment!

However, do you have an interpretation for the splitting of the Umbers? Why Green boys and Greybeards? Hothor is leading the old men and Mors the Green boys. The Greybeards in Winterfell while the Greenboys join Stannis. It's kinda giving me Giants and CotF vibes. Do you think there's a connection to be made between Theon and the little man in Old Nan's story? Theon escapes Winterfell to find himself being taken into the Blizzard and becomes a prisoner of Stannis.

To be perfectly honest I’m not sure at this stage, I’ll have to look into it, in part 6 I’ll be discussing Bran potentially skinchanging these stone giants in the same way he does with hodor, so my first thought is that we see green boys (bran a greenseer) and greybeards (the ancient Starks) associated with Mors umber, a one eyed symbolic giant who happens to be blowing his horn outside Winterfell but I’ll have to think on this

...If the descriptions of Gregor Clegane are meant to provide parallels to the stone army that is to rise and fight the others, that makes me /incredibly/ concerned about what the actual behaviour of the stone warriors is going to be. Gregor Clegane is among the most brutal and sadistic characters in ASOIAF, one who gleefully uses his strength and status as a means to hurt, torment and kill those weaker than himself, and HE'S our symbolically representative character for the invulnerable stone army?

Little bit of an addition to the german „kings beneath a mountain“. They are called „Friedenskaiser“ or „Peace Emperor“, who when they rise again extend the holy roman empire to span the whole world, convert the heretics to christiandom and when that is done the end of the world (christian apocalypse and rise of the antichrist) begins. Furthermore the Barbarossa Kyffhäuser myth particularly reminds me of figures like Bloodraven as Barbarossa is said to be grown intertwined with his marble desk, has the ravens obviously and last but not least has dwarfs that scout for him wether the ravens are yet gone.

I have seen here and there that Robert Strong's head may be the head of Rob Stark but I haven't seen any evidence of this other than the names. However I think that Rob's head would be the perfect head for a Frankenstein like undead. Rob was a (untrained) Warg, when his body died his consciousness went into Gray Wind and then died the true death when Grey Wind was killed. Robs head was empty with no mind or memories to contaminate the zombie. It would make the perfect undead servant with no memories from its past life so it would be a blank slate ready to take directions from its master, or rather maester. And yes wights keep their memories, at least enough of them to be useful. Othor remembered where Lord Commander Mormont slept, Beric kept most of his memories (losing more every time he was raised), Lady Stoneheart remembers who betrayed her son.

So I was sitting making different medieval and Renaissance patterns for an English queen clothing exhibit and something crossed my mind. William the Conquer =Aegon the Conquer William the Second = Aenys( both kinda useless ) Jaeherys and Allisaine= Henry the II and Eleanor of Aquitaine ( except instead of separations he imprisoned her but she fought for her kids rights and both kings lost the heirs they had groomed to replace them gruesomely) Viserys= Richard the Lionheart ( in the sense they we're loved but not really in touch with the country they ruled) John Lackland= Daemon ( both actually did quite a bit for the country but the realm still hated them) Richard the 3rd = Aenys II ( both were paranoid callous murders) Robert Baratheon= his early reign resembles Henry VII in the winning a war , marrying a woman who family wasn't his alley until he was sure to win and becoming king because of a loose connection to the throne. His reign is actually similar to Henry the 8th with lots of women , tons of marital problems, put the country in a precarious position and died old drunk and fat.) Had a couple of heirs follow them that either weren't old enough to actually rule and had bad counselors or just mucked it up further. Then Elizabeth ascended the throne to bring in a golden era but with no heirs of her own her distant relative ascended after from cold War torn Scotland who just lost its own ruling family and was referred to as her beloved nephew. Kind of lines up with how daenerys and Jon may end up colliding. Either its food for thought or my history riddled mind has been listening to way to many ASOIAF theory videos. If it makes sense feel free to use it with my blessing.

ESS - what are your thoughts on the “great stone beast” in Dany’s vision in the HOTU in Quarth?

To be honest I’m not entirely sure, it’s a part that I haven’t quite figured out, but it does remind me of the “great winged snake whose roar was a river of flame” Bran witnesses escaping from Winterfell, a place we see a lot of foreshadowing for giant stone beings to wake from And with all the suggestions throughout the books that dragons are said to be under Winterfell, the idea that a part of the prophecy is to wake the stone dragon, Winterfells even compared to Dragonstone which shows us waking stone dragons too, and we even see the gargoyles at Winterfell possibly representing dragons with their wings come to life as well Pure speculation though to be honest but I wonder if there is a stone dragon down in the crypts align side Azor ahai as well

@@eldric.stoneskin Agreed. I wondered whether it may be a figurative reference to Jon as both a stone king of winter and a dragon (Targ). I also am mystified by Bran’s vision as Summer over Winterfell. Initial assumption is that it had to be a Dragon (maybe Cannibal attracted by all the death there - but the timeline is off - Cannibal would be like 270, and even Balearion only lived to around 200 - although it’s possible as he was “wild”). I also wonder whether it’s Summer’s perspective of the Comet; being described in “wolf language”? Keep up the amazing work. Groundbreaking original theory crafting at its finest my friend. 🙌

Is that right? It’s amazing how wide spread this trope is! I can definitely believe that with Vlad the Impaler

i@@eldric.stoneskin it was very old Romanian folk tale that persisted up until the 1970's - that Vlad would rise again and save them. When a certain English actor was visiting the area to do a movie shooting, a very old peasant woman thought that he (because he looked like the the Ambras painting of Vlad) was Vlad come back to save her land from the hated Ceaușescu regime (at the time Cenusecu was not that good of a leader and was oppressing the Romanian people).
