I bought Asolo about three years ago. They are the most expensive I have ever purchased but they also have the best fit and comfort

Chris, Happy to get this kind of feedback ;-). And nice that you and I have the same kind of fit. But for everybody who reads this comment: .... be always aware that fit is personal and that not everybody fits every shoe. Enjoy the Falcon! Cheers, Gijs

Thank you for the heads up, I have a wide and short foot. Was looking at these, but may go with the fugitive instead.

Very nice review, and I happened to watch it while visiting your beautiful country (I’m in Utrecht). I have a pair of Asolo TPS 520 GV Evo boots (hope I got that right), and love the fit and construction. They seem to make a very nice boot. Thank you!

Thank you for a very informative review. I have had these boots for 2 and a half years and they are great except the sole is worn out. However, contrary to your comment Asolo say they can resole for the cost of 70 euros. So I am weighing up whether to resole, as the upper part of the boot is still good, or buy a new pair for 180. What is your advice?
@OutdoorguruGearReviews4 жыл бұрын
Hi Ian, That is good news! I got my information from the Dutch distributer but maybe they are wrong or... things changed. If I was in your shoes: resole. Just for sustainability reasons. And if the rest is still ok, why not. Enjoy the Outdoors and Stay Safe! Ciao Ciao, Gijs

@@OutdoorguruGearReviews Thank you for the in depth review. I too noticed that Asolo's website mentioned the Falcon GV's can be resoled. Curious.....given that they can be resoled, does this change your rating of 8.8?
@OutdoorguruGearReviews3 жыл бұрын
@@Freco1967 Hi Fresco, At the time I was reviewing the shoe they could not be resoled. I always check the technical aspects of the review with the manufacturer so I am 100% sure of what I did. But... maybe somebody at Asolo made a mistake or... and that is more likely ... something changed since... Yes, resoling makes the boots more sustainable in my opinion so that would ad about 0.5 to the shoes. And sorry for being a bit late with the answer but KZbin comments sometimes end up at a place on my computer where I don't expect them. Enjoy the Outdoors and Stay Safe! Cheers, Gijs

Love the videos very informative 👌. I'm trying to get into hiking and I live in the U.S. Right now I'm focusing on getting hiking shoes first but I don't know if I should get either boots or shoes.

You are right, all footwear with a waterproof membrane are too hot for summer use. Although much is said about breathability, the truth is only mesh fabric footwear ( without a waterproof membrane ) are suitable for hot weather.

Hi Steven, Thanks for sharing your experience and point of view. I agree mostly but don't forget that a good leather quality also is moisture regulating and not always just blocking the breathability of footwear. I like dessert boots a lot because of the super ventilation and when shoes get wet... they dry very quickly. Enjoy the Outdoors and Stay Safe! Cheers, Gijs

@@OutdoorguruGearReviews No leather breathes like mesh fabric does. On hot days, I use mesh fabric athletic shoes or canvas boots, such as Palladium Pallabrousse. Do you own these boots ? Great summer hiking boots.
@OutdoorguruGearReviews Жыл бұрын
Oh yes know the boots. Classics! I don't own them anymore; too little support with a backpack. But casual they are fine. I have these: lowamilitaryboots.com/lowa-military-desert-boots/lowa-desert-elite-military-boots-coyote-op

@@OutdoorguruGearReviews I use the Pallabrousse to walk in the city with a 30 pound backpack. I know what you mean about the support. They are not a true hiking boot although a man explored volcanoes wearing them. I will check out the Lowas. HAIX in Germany makes great footwear. I have a pair of their leather Gore-Tex hiking shoes. They feel great underfoot, better than any other footwear I own. Also, high quality leather and excellent build quality. Best regards from America.

@@OutdoorguruGearReviews I was considering buying the Falcon but the LHT GV version. They both have the same sole. I read that the Vibram part of the sole is hollow and so it wears out very quickly. Have you seen anything like this happening?
@OutdoorguruGearReviews2 жыл бұрын
No I have not. I am doing a review on a Scarpa shoe soon. Wait for that one ;-). It is fantastic.
@ryanstark23502 жыл бұрын
@@OutdoorguruGearReviews OK that's great. I will wait for that. I want something lighter maybe even a kind of approach style shoe. I just discovered that the toe area of my Fugitives is a bit cramped. I've been wearing wide shoes and my toes have spread. There is a wide version of the Fugitive but it seems Asolo boots and shoes are a bit narrow at the toes. I noticed that your site has a review of the Asolo Falcon Low LTH GV Hiking Shoe and you mention this narrow toe area problem. I have also been wearing flat shoes. If you do this, then most boots feel very bad if they have a big heel rise. I'm surprised there are not more boots with no heel rise. Heels create bad posture and put too much stress on your heel as you walk.
@OutdoorguruGearReviews2 жыл бұрын
Heel rise has benefits too. Let me think about your approach idea because I have a pair somewhere that I like a lot but I can't come up with the name right now. I'll get back to you on this.

Like most people say, these boots are comfortable right out of the box. Here is the main issue: The treads are HOLLOW! Once you wear off half the tread, holes will form because they are HOLLOW! It basically halves the life of the boots and is very disappointing for a $225 shoe. I brought this to the attention of Scott at Asolo who had this to say "The soles are not hollow, the holes are the result of some outside force." So denying reality is their company policy.
